Anyone else think Far Cry is overrated?

I do. The graphics are the only thing good about it. Boring gameplay, story is predictable, and the game is just extremely glitchy. I picked up the game last summer, and I liked it, but looking at it now, it's just an average game. However, I must admit that I adored the lush Jungle environments and the other eye candies.

To sum it all up, I wasted my $20.00. I want to sell the game. How much will I get if I sell it at Gamestop/EB Games?

It's 2007 and your playing a 2004 game.

You said it, it's an average game in 2007 and it was made in 2004.

CRYTEK is groundbreaking IMO. 

But to each his own... 

I don't think its overrated. It does have its flaws. I found it far better than that other damp console game that was overrated.

I suspect that the people who dislike this game are most likely run-and-gun FPS players that wants action delivered constantly and fast. I played the game on Veteran difficulty and it was a blast sneaking around killing mercs (and running/hiding from them)!

I enjoyed the game as much as I did with HL2 and it deserves a 9.0

wow i completely disagree it was a great game and i lvoed the story. i dont really even care about gfx. If you want overated buy an xbox 360 and try Gears of War and then come back and see if you still think this game is overated. (i have 360 and owned gears of war in 3 hours worth of play)bigblunt537

dude the game came out a long time ago and it was really great..... i think that its a preatty good fps.... though i thought that the whole monster thing ruined the game...im talking about the mutants..... and the vehicles are also great. it deserved a 8.9 when it came out...right now... i would give it a 8.1/7.9 votelazzy102

"Dude", three years is not a long time. Hell, 30 years is not a long time. Anyway, Farcry was boring when it came out and it's boring as hell now.  Was you take away the graphics you have a sub-par game with a sub-par story. OH!

   The multiplayer is horrible. When compared to the numerous others such as Half-Life Day of Defeat, Count Strike, Battle fields etc etc.  The single player was really cool though.

I got everything I was expecting: rock-solid gameplay, cool weapons, cool enemies, corny action-movie story, big outdoor jungle environment, and beautiful graphics.

The game didnt fall short in any category except multiplayer.

I haven't played a whole lot of Far Cry, but I thought the game was pretty good. Maybe its predictable, but what game isn't? :D So in my opinion, its not overrated at all. chandu83

Halo 2 's story was pretty unpredictable, in a bad way.  After i beat the boss, the game ended, wtf??!

Far Cry is not overrated -it was hyped a lot by people playing it, and hype can raise expectations too high. But that is not Far Cry's fault.

Compared to the masses of so-so games delivered to the marketplace, it's a solid game. Saying anything less is just not being objective. My only compaint is it was a little too linear -like Half Life 2 also. But I don't like linear games. Also the Volcano pit ending was frustrating to get through. But overall, jumping out of a humvee and blasting away with the OICW at some Merc shouting "I'm going to shoot you in the face!" still makes me grin. The game has an unforgettable mood. Thanks Far Cry.

Everyone know that the MP sucked....even the game developers admitted many mistakes were made. FarCry shines in it's single-player mode with it's huge line of sight, terrific opened ended game play and the graphics are top notch by even by today's standards. I agree with an earlier post, that people that didn't care for this game seem more into just run & gun. Part of the appeal to this game was the fact that it is a FPS with elements of stealth needed to be successful. 

I was amazed how you could play a mission 20 times and do it differently each time. Yes I also agree the Mutant factor got a little bit out there, but it still played a good part to the Cheezy story line, which I enjoyed. It was also a very long game, which was a nice change from other games you spend hard earned money on and get what amounts to a short story and with a good deal of difficulty which made it challanging.

FarCry is on my all time top 10 list............8)

i think was rated just right - if anything, the game is underappreciated.

yes, the story was corny, but at least the devs knew that and played that up by making fun of itself along the way.  it definitely didn't pretend to be something it wasn't, and i enjoyed the game for what it was.  the hdr lighting update made the already excellent environments stand out even more.

FarCry was never over hyped proir to it's release. If anything it was very much a pleasent suprise. People were aware of the game while in development, but no one was saying it was going to be a huge hit. That's one of the things that made it so great, no one expected it.

And the game play was a strong point because of how open ended it is...........
