Nah, just upping the multiplier isn't really the only thing to it, lol I wish!

Sure you can and only use the multiplier, but there's other parts to overclocking too. On a stock cooler though, you're limited, so keeping it simple is fine.

It's easy to a point, but there is more to it when you want to get the most out of your CPU. Just my 2¢.

ocd my 3770k to 4.2ghz.  All I did was change the multiplier from 35 to 42 and disabled intel auto boost.  Im not even sure thats the correct way to overclock the cpu, as I didn't change any of the RAM clocks/timings,  Cpu over clocking is so damn complicated, much harder than gpu overclocking.

gpu is at 1225mhz core clock and 1825mhz mem clock

blaznwiipspman1

If you plan to run that OC 24/7 you should test stability. Run Prime95 for a few hours. You might need more volts to run your CPU at that clock at all times.

not 24/7, only for the benchmark, no real reason to run it 24/7 like that and shorten lifespan when the stock is already damn fast.  If I increase volts, then im guessing temps will also go up and as I only have the stock cooler to work with, that will also cause me problems.

Anyways was the stuff I did the right way to overclock the ivybridge cpus?  Just change the multiplier and save and exit bios?  Is that all there is to it?

You'll be ok doing that up to about 4.2 or 4.3 then you'll most likely need more volts. I'm fully stable @ 4.5 with 1.24v and I mean "fully" stable, no WHEA errors. Yet @ 4.7 I need 1.4v, it's exponential after that. There is also LLC to consider depending on your motherboard.

And if he is running everything at standard settings, the voltage probably did go up because the offset is set to auto.

Tried out a new BIOS today, heavily modded.  GPU Boost 2.0 is completely disabled, there is no boosting but no throttling either.  TDP limit is 350W per card, fan speed is unlocked to 100%, and both cards are running at 1.2125 V.

My 3DMark username is 2+2=5, and here is the 3DMark Hall of Fame Top 10, Firestrike Extreme, Dual-GPU:

:D

I know that we don't keep up with Firestrike Extreme scores here, but I wanted to post this and there was no other thread to post it in, lol.  :P

I'm happy with my score here.  :)

Very nice, especially considering all those other guys have six core SB-E chips (except for the fella with 980X).

what is more impressive is that some 7970's are ranked up there in the top 50 of both extreme and regular firestrike.  Amazing for a card thats 1.5 years old now :D

Wow. I'm really doing bad in the CPU department. The guy with the 7950 and a 2500K has 1600 score better than me overall and almost double in physics. Damn. I think I'll pull the trigger on a 3570k (and get it to 4.5GHz-4.8GHz) this summer and then maybe invest in a better cooler i

if you want a better physics score then going with a 3570k is dumb, you need a core i7.  Core i5's need to be overclocked to hell and back to get a reasonable physics score.  Now you know your score, gaming wise it won't make a difference at all if you "upgrade" to a core i5 3570k.

I received my BIOS chips earlier this week and have got my RAM running correctly. I have also put my OC back on. Ive just run the benchmark again to get my current score before my 780 arrives. (and it finally recorded everything right, apart from the ram). Almost gained 40 points. didnt update drivers or anything, cause Im severly VRAM limited in the test. http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/688973

780s were definitely tempting, but at $650 per is a bit more than I wanna pay for a GPU. (Just my personal pref)

Besides I need to upgrade CPU/Mobo before anything else now, waiting on Haswell and to see if it's worthwhile.

That's pretty much a Titan score!  Unreal!  :o

If you adjust for the fact that the score I have posted in this thread is for a volt-modded Titan, then I'd say they are very close.

I bet you are pretty happy right now.  :D
