:D

Microsoft just Unveiled Direct x 11 !!!

The company calls DirectX 11 a "big step forward for gaming, adding features onto existing DirectX 10".

Key components of DirectX 11, will include:

o Full support (including all DX11 hardware features) on Windows Vista as well as future versions of Windows
o Compatibility with DirectX 10 and 10.1 hardware, as well as support for new DirectX 11 hardware
o New compute shader technology that lays the groundwork for the GPU to be used for more than just 3D graphics, so that developers can take advantage of the graphics card as a parallel processor
o Multi-threaded resource handling that will allow games to better take advantage of multi-core machines
o Support for tessellation, which blurs the line between super high quality pre-rendered scenes and scenes rendered in real-time, allowing game developers to refine models to be smoother and more attractive when seen up close

I find this unneccissary. I mean I'm still really with the performance im getting with DX9..There's no need for MS to waste time with DX11..this is just gonna be another thing that dev's have to implement into their games now which will further stretch release dates...

Woot???? why Woot? yet another ploy to get you to buy new hardware that supports it. Our graphics cards have a short enough life as it is without them trying to shove dx11 down our throats. Also as already said they haven't even scratched the suface with dx 10 yet so dx11 is a slap in the face to all those who bought a dx10 card expecting dx10 to be fully supported.

Tis isn't a slap in the face to anyone. What you idiots don't understnad is that DirectX 11 isn't coming until around the time of the launch of Windows 7 in (maybe) 2009. That means that DirectX 11 titles won't even be on the market until sometime in 2010 (a whole 2 years from now). Considering that most PC gamers upgrade every one to two years, this won't affect anyone in terms of hardware for a very long time. It's not like you just bought a DX10 card today and found out that all games are going to be DX11 tomorrow.

What I am excited for, however, is that DX11 has support for tesselation, which ATI has had on its hardware since the HD 2000 series. This awesome feature will be available on a wide variety of ATI systems when we finally see it in games, and this is in my opinion, what is really going to push the envelope on graphics for the next few years.

Who the hell are you calling idiots, been a troll long?.

Software developers are still trying to adjust to DX10 let alone worry about DX11. One of the major problems affecting pc gaming is that developer's don't ever try to get the most out of existing hardware. They would rather half bake it and then move on to the next thing as its easier and makes more money. But as long as "idiots" like you keep buying it and shouting yay, why not milk you for everything i could, i suppose id do the same.

DirectX 11 means DIRECT ATTACK to your VGA Card...

Withdraw and reinforce your VGA Card with the new one... That what exactly the Microsoft wants to say...

I read about it earlier, and wow what a nonsense. This is just another lame attempt from Microsoft to make people switch to Vista. Now is this really needed? I think not. We haven't even seen one game that is DX 10 only (I mean one that requires SM 4.0). Of course recent games run better on DX 10 video cards but this is just like back when DX 9 cards were introduced and people played DX 8 games on DX 9 cards.

I'm sorry for all those people who bought DX 10 cards.:( It's not that they wasted their money but I think it's not really worth getting them when you don't have games for them.

So I don't get it why did Microsoft bother to release DX 10 and now DX 11 and how do they expect people to get Vista and DX 10 cards when there aren't any games for them.:| I mean DX 10 was the reason to get Vista. So who's fault is it that there aren't any DX 10 games? I tell you, it's Microsoft's fault. Thanks to their Xbox 360, which has a DX 9 GPU, game developers didn't bother to make DX 10 games and I don't think they'll bother any time soon.

So why should people get Vista and new DX 11 video cards? Probably we'll have games that use them when xbox 720 and PS4 will be released, but hey look at the bright side, at least we'll be able to run 3DMark 09 on them. :P

What the hell is the point? As far as i'm aware there aren't even any DX10 ONLY games out at the moment.

As for those games that do use DX10 performance is aweful because your stuck using Vista.

pretty much hit the nail on the head there, i have a DX10 card but i cant use DX10, not becuase there arent any games that support it, but becuase it means upgrading to Vista, and personally, i think i would rather eat my own fist.

by the time DX11 is delivered it will be 2-3 years.

After release, the games will start popping up slowly, probably another 1-2 years. So expect to wait a minimum of 4 years before even needing dx11 hardware.

MS announced Windows 7 will be the last version of Windows. Hopefully thereafter an robust open source api similar to Open GL pops up and the keys are given to Linux and we will be free at last.

Direct-X 10 was a farce because so few developers took advantage of it. It seems that Direct-X 9.0c still works fine for most people, as it's still capable of producing spectacular effects.

I remembered a time when people said that Direct-X 9 was pointless and that Direct-X 8 was enough... Adoption of new software that requires new hardware takes quite a time.

Hmm... This really doesnt matter that much, cause developers dont care to make any games for anything but dx9, and i dont think a new one will changes that the least. They use dx9 because apparent that is easier when doing it for consols too. I think we will have to see a whole new generation of consols before we will see developers make the jump to a new directx, and that is not gonna happen the next 3 or 4 years. Ofcourse there is still the possiblity that some that dx10 or 11 will be used in pc exclusives, but we dont see many of those either anymore, except for strategy games, which generally isnt that innovative when it comes to graphics, and even strategy games are becoming more common as multiplatform.

So I wont say that is it Microsoft's fault that directx 10 havent been (and directx 11 probably wont be either) that big of a success, it merely just an other side effect of the downturn for PC-game developement, we have seen the last couple of years.

There is alot of misunderstanding which i am going to clear things up.

First of Directx 11 will be for windows vista and windows 7 Secondly This isn't a ploy to get you to buy anything ok what this does is for the developers only and not for us only to make sure we have the software/hardware to support it. DirectX all this does is help developers to have much quick access to the hardware similar to what directx 9 and 10 is doing.

And lastly I wouldnt even worry about dx 11 because by that time being you be upgrading your video card anyways so this debate is pointless because as we all know pc's are not static software/hardware. thats has always been with pc's. With that said if you look at the history of directx it went through alot of changes as far as i can remember was directx 8 and lower.

Look the API has nothing to do how games looks all it does is bridges the software to talk with the hardware and making sure it gains direct access to the hardware which is why it is called directx. The real effects are done in the hardware level and all that directx does is grants them access to it

And also directx is more than just for graphics it also handles audio and multimedia fucntions and input devices such as gamepads, joysticks etc. And also makes programming on the pc much easier for devs to make it efficient wise and not to be confused with the game requirements.

So don't worry about it by the time it is finalized we would jump on it without realizing it on our next hardware upgrade.

DirectX 11 will add acceleration to physics directly with the next gen gpu/cpu. Again its changing with the latest hardware. Now that we are seeing gpu having some bit of physics built in, directx needs to change to adapt to new technologies while still retaining the old functions such as 10 and lower. So again its just chaging how things are being accessed and at the sametime adding new additional acceleration such as physics.

What this means is No more dedicated aegia physics cards and i am glad to see that go away.

...and I have to laugh at everyone who says that DX10 (and 10.1) offers nothing new over DX9.

DX10 is a huge revolution over DX9.

You can blame developers and economies of scale for the shortage of DX10 games.

Until more people get DX10 class hardware (i.e. We get people away from the $100 DX9 video cards of old to $100 DX10 cards), we won't see developers coding games primarily for DX10. The same will happen to DX11, and the same has happened for EVERY single past DirectX release.

Also, DX11 looks like an evolution, not a revolution like what DX10 was.

I guess if it's actually an improvement over dx9/10/10.1 then yaye, but dx 10/10.1 was hardly an improvement over dx9 so i'm not erm hyping dx11.I'll only be interested if windows 7 is going to be any good,a.k.a worth an upgrade over xp sp3 because i'm never going to degrade to windows vista.

How on earth was it a revolution?Post me a dx10 game screenshot vs. a dx 9 one and the difference is minimal at best...

DX11 sound a bigger jump than DX10/10.1 primarily because it supports multi core cpu's in the engine, which will not only improve the support and efficiency of multi-core cpu's in use with games but will also make it cheaper and more cost effective to do so.

Also tessellation is a big deal,it pretty much eliminates jaggies for good and also the requirements for tessellation should be alot lower vs. 16 AA ect
