I remember when I bought AC: Revelations, first I installed it on steam then I had to install uplay and play it through there.

To be honest I cant stand origin for another reason other then having to use a different site or program to run my games. The thing that bugs me the most are the prices are so different from region to region, I see people talking about great deals or origin during those sale months, and when I jump on to hopefully pick up something cheap, their sale is non existent or its so small it may as well be a sale. Hell even without sales their games are expansive, I can pick up a copy of The Sims 3 retail from EB Games, for half the price they are charging online. If they make me feel like Im not missing out or paying more by using their client over steam, then I'll begin to use it.
Why can't PC's be like consoles...oh wait, you have to install games on consoles now, too :)[QUOTE="Stinger78"][QUOTE="yellosnolvr"]anyone else annoyed about having to install games to be able to play them?mrbojangles25
lol you do? when did that happen?
The first time I remember it being required for Metal Gear Solid 4, and then most recently with GTA V.Steam makes it easy to communicate and play games with friends. I know at the heart it's DRM but for me the benefits make it worth it.
[QUOTE="Lulu_Lulu"][QUOTE="FelipeInside"] And now do it with Steam, simple. Steam, does have its benefits. Look at the glass half full.FelipeInsideNo Thanx. I have options. You wana "go with the flow" like sheep then don't let me stop you. I have standards Standards? But u quit PC gaming? Logic fail.

My main problem wirth Origin is the fact it's a really shit and unstable platform that doesn't benefit me in any way and actually detracts from me wanting to play anything on it.
Shit and unstable? Mmkay. Haven't had a single issue with Origin. All my friends use it as well and they are fine with it too. Unstable where? My main problem wirth Origin is the fact it's a really shit and unstable platform that doesn't benefit me in any way and actually detracts from me wanting to play anything on it.

Origin has never really bothered me, maybe when it first came out, but it is improved now. I thought it was going to be ALOT worse than it turned out to be.
Also the speed is the same as steam for me and the one time I had a big issue they fixed it on the phone in 5minutes. Could always improve of course but not all that bad!
i don't feel annoyed but there is no way i'm going to make one. and comparing it to steam is not a good comparison. steam used to sell ea games but ea just saw their success and decided it wanted in on that action. i'm not going to follow whatever publisher in whatever plan they come up with that only helps themself get ahead. isn't there a u-play now too for ubisoft games? so yeah, am i supposed to memorize who publishes which game so that i will know in which game library i can find it when i want to play it?

So by your opinion Valve is the only developer allowed to use a client to push forward their games?
And your second line of "memorize who publishes which games" is the funniest thing I've read all week.
[QUOTE="FelipeInside"][QUOTE="Lulu_Lulu"] are you saying piracy doesnt affect steam ? Because it does, GoG, GMG, steam, origin, etc are not competing against each other, they are competing against piracy. superclockedPiracy was around before DRM and the Internet existed.Yeah, even the schools pirated games back in the day. They used to hand out floppy disk copies with the name of the game scribbled on them...
In the 90s, early 00s, my neighbor on Halloween nights, instead of handing out candy, would hand out CDs burned with pirated games on them. You can guess whose house was the most popular on that holiday for trick-or-treaters
I don't own, buy, or play many EA games so Origin isn't that big of a hassle for me. What I do find annoying is how every publisher now has to have its own BS game client (*cough* DRM *cough*) but, as the kids say, it is what it is. When given the (rare) option I will always buy the DRM-free version of a game from sites like GoG and forgo Steam, Origin, etc. altogether.

you're welcome, sorry to hear you're having such a slow week but i'll gladly do my part to make it better.
the pattern i see is valve trying to sell games, all games. it wants me to install a client, gives me some extra services, fine by me. publishers see steam's success, they want a bigger cut or they want the advantages of having a client installed (maybe both, i don't know), their client is born, they refuse other services their games (unless it goes through their client), only sell their own games,
i see a difference. steam is trying to offer a digital download service (gog being an even better example), ea and ubisoft are trying to maximize control (read profit) on their own games. the first in my view being a give and take, the latter just a take. do you think this will stop at ea and ubisoft? how many game libraries have you got already? have you never wanted to install a game and couldn't find it until you remembered you need to log in at such and such site first? i have. i don't know why you seem to feel you need to defend these clients. they serve you no purpose and require you to make unnecessary extra steps to play a game.

Yeah, I did. His point is he doesn't like DRM. The point you seemed to be making is that Valve isn't the only one who should be able to use a platform to further their business. My point is that Valve does more than further their business with Steam compared to Origin. Get off your high horse.

You do realize that Steam started as an only Valve game client right? Then years down the track started selling other developer games. Origin is fine, don't know what the big fuss is about. The best thing about it is the autopatching. Before it was sometimes a nightmare to update FIFA or The Sims, now it does it all by itself. I'm not defending the clients, it's just that people always over-react to infinity and beyond on these forums. As for remembering what game is on what client? Really? There's a thing called shortcuts on the start menu, you just click on it and it launches the client automatically.[QUOTE="FelipeInside"]Read the posts carefully before commenting.AlexZor

LOL High horse. 0/10. And no, if we are going to have online clients Valve doesn't have the exclusive rights to them. Every developer is allowed to have what they want to delivery their games, this isn't the land of Gabe.... Like I said to the other poster, Steam started with ONLY Valve games available...so in any case it was Valve who started this "to push their games forward" mentality.LOL High horse. 0/10. What are you on about? Where was the mention of Valve having exclusive rights to digital distribution? I'm comparing Steam to Origin in a thread about why some may feel annoyed about having an Origin account. What are you doing? Also, Steam was brand new to everyone. I'm sure all game developers jumped at the chance to sell their games through a service that hadn't been proven yet. Right?
You do realize that Steam started as an only Valve game client right? Then years down the track started selling other developer games. FelipeInside
does this matter now? are you trying to say you expect origin and u-play to sell other developers games? i guess your point is fair to suggest that others should be able to enter this business and set up a similar service, but the way this is going now just makes it a mess for gamers and it seems very far fetched to assume that ea and ubisoft have anything different as their own interest in mind. so i think the tc has a valid point by objecting against additional clients.
Origin is fine, don't know what the big fuss is about. FelipeInside
the fuss is not about origin. the fuss is about publishers dumping their problem on us (as gamers) to deal with.
As for remembering what game is on what client? Really? There's a thing called shortcuts on the start menu, you just click on it and it launches the client automatically. FelipeInside
i think this assumes the game is installed already. if not, you're going to have to enlighten me how you do this, if you please?
If Origin had more of a community, and user-friendly interface where it encouraged social online features it might be good. As of now, it's just another DRM platform.
Valve started out slow, but it has many more strides than Origin in the same amount of time. Origin isn't something that's looking to improve. It'll be the way it is for a very long time.
Don't forget that EADM is essentially Origin, just rebranded and EADM made zero progress in its years under that name. Origin hasn't done a thing. Sure, it doesn't give me any issues but it doesn't provide any benefits. To me it's useless and it's just DRM like Uplay.
nobody likes physical copies anymore ? Are are you just too lazy ?I get physical copies when I can. But, if a digital copy is only like $5, compared to $19.99 or more in stores, then I definitely don't mind buying digital...Its DRM, and yall will remeber that soon, also its not crack proof, so expext valve to add an extra layer of security at the honest consumer's expense.

- How are they dumping their problems on us? Have u ever tried to patch a FIFA or Sims game? Compare that to the autopatch feature in Origin. World of difference.
- And you REALLY have problems finding out where to get games or what client they use? How the hell do you cross a street without getting hit?
- But if u have so many issues with Origin that's fine dude, u miss out on some great titles because you have trouble coming to grips with the present state of gaming.

I have two book cases of game cases, and so many CD key stickers....you're damn right I love digital. One click installs and no keys to lose or worry about, no physical media to dig up for old games...and I have a home desktop and a mobile gaming laptop for when I'm away from home...and I don''t need to bring any games with me, just install and get my saves from the cloud.

Even if you buy physical copy, you have to bypass the DRM? This isn't the pre-2005 any more. Can't remember a game besides Crysis in 2007 that didn't require steam, EADM, or Uplay but it still had securom. I prefer physical copies just so I could fill up the bookcase, it's nice, and I am a collector. Argue it however you want but that's the intended purpose it serves for me. DRM is there no matter what if you are living in the same dimension.Elann2008so what ? We just give up and accept this sh!t ? How about they quit screwing us over and punish the pirates for once. Seriously, this is Pathetic ! Too lazy/addicted to stand up for whats right ?
