I don't know what they have planned for you to do after max lvl or how they plan on keeping people playing but imo no raiding does make me a bit concerned. I never have been a huge raider myself but it's good to know that if I get the time there is always that option.

I think no raids might turn some off but who knows...

This is where I got it btw...

http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/380038/There-are-no-raids-can-you-live-with-that.html

edit:

Ok so I was just listening to an interview with the head dev and he was saying that end-game is not raiding but dungeons. However the dungeons change after max lvl.mobs are completely different doors and areas open up that were not there before and stuff like that. Basically the story continues at end game. Also he said that IF the community really starts pushing for raids then they will do whats needed to make them happy.

Awesome. Large raids suck and have always been a relatively stupid concept - and in this case they would be a particularly stupid one.

This sounds good to me.  I've never liked raids.   This is actually the first bit of news about this game that's even registered on my radar.

Raids have always sucked. The whole idea is just modern a Skinner box. Pulling the lever once a week for 6 hours to have a chance that the rat chow you want might drop and then the chance that you might be the one to get to eat it? No thanks.

I'll take instances I can do in an hour with friends and still feel like we accomplished something.

Very true, and on top of that Big Raids are going out of fashion, just like Subscription MMOs are. Look at WoW, RAIDS aren't what they used to be.

While I do agree raids can be a timesink, at least give players a option to use them.

I feel the exact opposite, raiding for me is just fun. I was excited to hear that Wildstar is bringing back 40-man raids that WoW did away with. 40-man raids in vanilla WoW were *AMAZING*. Getting 40 guildies or friends together to compete against the games hardest content was simple fun that other games just don't provide. However, there was a big fault to 40-mans...and that is actually getting 40 people together. At this point I have been loving what I see of Wildstar, it is my most anticipated mmo of the year atm.

Raid can be a lot of fun if you don't live for them. They give people something to do after they hit max.

Again I'm all for no raids but they have to bring something else to the table or just like GW2, there will be no reason to keep playing and no reason to bother lvling up to max at all.

It's sad that the majority of people just keep playing to "level up", and then when they hit the max level they think that's the end.

I don't know about anybody else, but when a game's endgame is large-raid focused like WoW used to be, it becomes way too much of a timesink. And to make matters worse, you pretty much have to live on your guild's raiding schedule if you want any decent loot. And the better guilds raided frequently, requiring you to be on at the whim of your guildmaster. I like the idea of non-instanced raiding (up to 20 people maybe), but 40-man instanced raids get repetitive fast.

I wouldn't say it's 'bad' but it's quite linear and doesn't offer a lot of variety.  The meat of the game comes from being a part of a huge guild and doing events or making up your own team activities.  The "raid" gear all have roughly the same stats, its just a game to go after what looks you want (which I dont mind too much since Im a sucker for cosmetic styles in RPGs).  It shouldnt come as a surprise to anyone whos tried GW1, which was the same cosmetics type of RPG and not about stats.  The gear is really easy to get

In all seriousness, how do you theme-parks define raids anyway? I'd rather fight other guilds over open world bosses than waste endless hours in a pve dungeon.

I never liked small raids anyway because they require too much time and too much attention. Old 40 raids were fun and better in that matter, you had iddle time to enjoy the game and talk with people, plan other stuff, the outcome was just added benefit if you succeded, that's the definition of a MMO for me. Now in the small raids you have to act like a robot and be done asap, rage against the one guy that didn't do something well. Not my idea of fun.

I don't really care. What concerns me is I don't have enough time for raiding. So any MMO that buries that mechanic has my blessing.

Raids in EQ1 where amazing, they where so hard and the sense of achievment when your guild took down a raid boss on EQ was astounding. WoW raids in comparison are childsplay and GW2 raids are a joke. Id rather have no raids than be involved in them with the state they are in now.

Yea, because no scaling 5 mans are the future  large scale PvP but no large scale PvE . Guild Wars 2.5 confirmed .... will provide every little reason for PvE'rs to continue playing. FFXIV remake it is.

Elitest translates as "Wanting good players, and I can't handle that" .... I guess every workplace is elitest for hand picking their members and EXPECTING a certain level of quality. But then if this is the average GW2 mindset then no wonder most of you can't even dodge visable red rings and even b eat High Priest Grenth without 5 odd tries as a massive zerg group... Ugh, thinking about GW2 PvE makes me sad..... biggest dissapointment of 2012.

Sorry but your statement failed,. Guild Wars 2 is PVP focused game, and they stated it.  You have Structure PVP which is terrific i enjoy playing it, WvWvW is pritty fun if you have well organisated guild with tactics and people who know what to do against enemy zergs,..  For PVE players unfortunatly, there is no much in Guild Wars 2, however i have in guild some friends who play only PVE,  Farming dungeons, getting up Fractal LVL, lvling up multiply characters on their accounts, crafting proffesions maxing, dunno as i see they play it still after half an year. They just need more time to add content. For difference of EA  and Activision they wont charge it.

If they add new dungeons on a very regular basis then I'm ok with that. I don't care at all about 40 man raids and would probably never get to do them anyway but some 10 player content would have been awesome.

The thing is, they need to give people a reason to level up and invest their time otherwise it should have just been a single player game.

Why do we have to deal in absolutes, where all MMORPGs are the same? And since when is every game that isn't raiding-focused the same thing as Guild Wars? Some MMORPGs can have their 40-man raids, but I don't think every MMORPG needs to have them. There are other (better) ways to keep endgame interesting than grinding for loot in raids. I don't know about you guys, but re-running through the same identical dungeon dozens and dozens of times with dozens of other nerds isn't fun to me, it's just repetitious and annoying. It's PvE at its worst. I embrace any new PvE concepts with open arms.

No I never got to max in GW2. With little to no real endgame other than pvp I saw no reason and didn't enjoy....well I'm not going to go into all that again. Lets just say I have a lot of reasons for not liking GW2 and no end-game was just the nail in the coffin.

Never cared much for raids, in fact, when I raided in WoW I absolutely hated it. I hated it so much I tried spreading misinformation (well this was one of the reasons anyway) about me being a terrible tank and refused to sign up for raids. But tanks were in a shortage and I was a well respected member so officers signed me up anyway and that little lie I tried spreading around was soon dispelled >.>.

That said, I suppose the option to raid would be nice for those who want it. But this is a PvP focused mmo anyway from the looks of things. Better they focus on one aspect and do it well as opposed to mess up in every aspect.

I agree, it is also the reason I gave up on it (along with the culling). No matter how much I asked, people would rather join disorganized zergs than join me in my hit and run missions and interceptions. And since I am a european with everyone else on my server being american (at least a 6 hour difference), all of my friends on the server, tended to be offline while I was online.

How the hell would you know? You have never raided end game in a mmo, he'll I doubt u even made it to max level. You are the definition Of a casual, yet always comment on mmos ans what makes them good.

I don't care.

I've enjoyed what small raids I've gone into but it's not a main focus for an MMO for me, just an off side dish in case the main meat gets rather stale and tough to swallow.

There is none?

Grinding for gear is simply not fun and there is no real point to having the gear. It's all focused on the WvW but that's a terrible AoE spam I cannot stand.

I refuse the touch the AoE spam that is WvW. If you think that's fun, then more fun for you I guess.

Agreed.

sounds good to me.  More "free form" type teamplay, i.e. going into a dungeon with some friends and relying more on skill than following a formula with a gear requirement, sounds much better to me.
