I say Epic is dead. If Crytek, id Software, Valve, and Blizzard still support PC gaming, what they say has no bearing on the truth.
Ok can we please drop the system wars stuff, this topic is meant to be about Epic's latest comments on the PC so can we please stick to that.
What I find curious here is that no where in Mike Capps statement does he say "PC gaming is dead to them". Here is the entire quote of what Epic said :-
"If you walked into this place six years ago, Epic was a PC company and always had been. We did one PS2 launch title, which was a port of Unreal Tournament, and everything else was PC. And now, if you read our forums, people are saying: 'Why do you hate the PC? You're a console-only company.' And guess what? It's because the money's on console... we already saw the impact of piracy: it killed a lot of great independent developers and completely changed our business model.Mick Capp
I do not see him saying "the PC is dead to us" anywhere there, I dunno maybe I am missing something ? All I see is him explaining that Epic have shifted focus from PC development to console development.
I really think we need to take deep breaths with news story's about the PC these days they tend to exaggerate things greatly. Take this story with the attention grabbing "Epic Says The PC Is Dead To Them, Blames Piracy" erm I didn't see Epic say that at all or perhaps I am missing something ?
Now there is an old adage that comes to mind here "actions speak louder than words" so lets examine just how "dead" PC gaming is to Epic. Well firstly they are still members of the PCGA an organisation whose mission is to "promote PC gaming worldwide" hm so why are Epic still a part of this organisation then ? I mean it seems silly to me, I know if I stop supporting my local football team I at least throw away my pom poms and Liverpool scarf.
Secondly why are they bothering to bring Unreal Engine 4 to the PC ? if PC gaming is in such dire straits and Epic consider the platform "dead to them" why are they wasting time making a PC version of their Unreal Engine 4 ? Now granted it has been reported in the press that the consoles will be the focus of Unreal engine 4 but that doesn't change the fact they are making this engine for the PC too and I have to ask myself "Why are they doing this if the PC is in such dire straits ?".
Finally why bother with Bulletstorm on the PC ? I don't follow Epic much these days but it is my understanding that Bulletstorm is their new franchise after Gears Of War. So if the PC is "dead to them" then why are they bothering to bring Bulletstorm to the PC ?
Now we all have our own little pet theories about what is going on, I too have my own theory about all this "PC dying stuff" but this isn't the place for that kind of talk. However it is clear this story is not how the headline makes out but the damage has already been done to Epic's reputation I think.

Good post, I never even bothered to read the link. Contrary to what most think here,I wish the best for PC gaming, I am not happy with having the same crappy hardware for 5 to 10 years. Lets hope pc gaming can at least stay on par and have multiplait games released at the same time, and many more great exclusives. This is all I want, a option to buy the superior version on release, not 1 year later.Ok can we please drop the system wars stuff, this topic is meant to be about Epic's latest comments on the PC so can we please stick to that.

EA are publishing Bulletstorm thats why its coming to the pc along with the fact it doesn't have a big fat cheque from a platform holder to keep it exclusive.
To be honest the PCGA is a joke of an organisation just look at some it of its members. M$? Gamestop? HMV? Sony? Until something tangible actually comes from it other an investigation into how much money pc gaming brings in it might aswell not even exist.
