New screen shot added to first post!
I think it's starting to come together a bit more now...especially the main character. Cool class looks like a nija or something :P
They also added a sample of some of the music they are composing for the game (this was a bit ago though):

As long as this game really goes somewhere with the combat and has a cool skill system like the one in TQ, I'll probably get it. I personally really enjoyed TQ.
Now I'd really be happy if they could work in random generation - that was the biggest thing holding TQ back IMO. It just got so tedious leveling up multiple characters.
It will have the skill system from TQ with some improvements as well. And the combat is going to be much better this time around. They are adding blood and gibing, dismemberment, and better particle effects. As long as this game really goes somewhere with the combat and has a cool skill system like the one in TQ, I'll probably get it. great news, My Gf and I are playing through Titan Quest Gold right now, waiting for Torchlight 2, and Diablo 3, So if this game is anything like TQ or Diablo then it is just another to add our list.
Just as long as it has a better optimized engine than Titan Quest... (it was improved with Immortal throne, but it still could use a lot more optimizing honestly)
Yeah this is another area they say they are working as well and according to them it's already running better. One of the major fixes they have implemented is reducing the number of items every enemy drops which supposedly has increased the performance a great deal.great news, My Gf and I are playing through Titan Quest Gold right now, waiting for Torchlight 2, and Diablo 3, So if this game is anything like TQ or Diablo then it is just another to add our list.

Personally I could see Grim Dawn being better than Diablo 3, maybe not as polished, but deeper.
We'll see, but based on TQ I might not be that far off base. In my mind a small group of passionate developers > big corporation with tons of funding, this of course assumes equal talent in each organization.

Sweet.
They added some new music to their media page:
http://www.grimdawn.com/media/Grim%20Dawn%20-%20They%20Come.mp3
Sounds pretty cool...I like the overall tone it's dark and sounds a bit industrial.
I don't understand that comment...a remake? It's an entirely different setting (Victorian age vs ancient Greece). There's guns. New music. New graphics and effects like dynamic weather. They added environmental destruction. There's a faction system in place. New camera system that allows rotation. Entirely new classes. New game play mechanics like mastery respecs, crafting, ect. Entirely new world (Cairn) with a new map style where the game is less linear. There's now blood gore and gibbing/dismemberment in the game. They are even talking about adding some randomization to the dungeons.
The game is built on the same engine as TQ so it does have similar graphics.
Calling it a Titan Quest remake is kinda silly, though. I'd say it's more like a spiritual successor...Crate Entertainment doesn't even have rights to Titan Quest anyways...they only licensed the engine and tools.
Hmmm I find the game pretty easy...in fact I use a few mods to make it a lot harder. You might have picked a really bad starting skill or invested in the wrong attributes...or something.Renevent42Well you've inspired me to try again. Any suggestions for good starting classes?
Psh, they're both apples. One is red and the other is green. :P Really though, Titan Quest is a Diablo clone. There are a lot of things an isometric action-RPG can do to separate themselves from the almighty Diablo (considering there are a lot of iso action-RPGs that aren't Diablo clones) - Titan Quest was Diablo in a different setting, with a different skill system, and different graphics.*sigh*
why does every isometric action-rpg need to be refered to a Diablo clone?
Call it a clickfest...an action-rpg...hack and slash...but just because its the same genre as diablo, does not make it a diablo clone.
Titan Quest had about as much in common with Diablo as an apple has in common with an orange; sure, theyre both fruit, both round...but the similiarities end there.
Titan Quest is arguably the best game in the genre since Diablo 2, and even does a few things better, so give credit where credit is due

Defense is a solid starting class...mixed with Nature (Heart of Oak) it also becomes pretty resilient. If you have Immortal Throne Dream is a great class and mixes with pretty much everything. I would either go Defense mixed with either Nature or Dream.
If you want to play a mage Earth is good too, plus you get the Core Dweller pet which is a great tank. Spirit also has a great tank pet (Liche) but you don't get it until later I think.
Regarding TQ being Diablo clone...yeah pretty much. I don't know why this has to be a bad thing though. Diablo 2 basically created a genre unto itself and naturally there are other games. I don't see how this is any different then other similar genres. Titan Quest is a Diablo clone...sure...but it's not a negative thing and it's certainly not derrivative. In fact, I'd say there's quite a lot too Titan Quest that was pretty innovative.
Anyways who really cares, a good game is a good game.

Well, I got a bow and started killing everything. Just got a flame staff...totally sucked in. Thanks for giving me the urge to try it again!
Quick one though. Once you've picked a speciality, do you have to stick with it? I picked a **** one (hunter/archer). Can I upgrade them all at the same time? It's just that whenever I level it takes me to the Hunter upgrade screen with no obvious way of going back to the skills tree.

You get two classes you can mix and match...the first is at level 2, and you get to pick your second class at level 8. In game there's no way to respec your classes though, only reset your skill points (for gold).
However, using this utility you can totally respec your masteries though for me it kinda ruins the game...and you are so early in the game you should just re-create a new character anyways...but here's the app regardless :P

I also recommend this program which lets you vault items you find in game and share them with your other characters:

As well as installing the fan patch:

First look at combat video released:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqGP4LT_cYo&hd=1
Remember it's still in pre-alpha but I think it looks pretty good. There's definitely been an improvement to the visceral feel of combat over Titan Quest :)
Well if Diablo III fails (it won't), I will have so many other options :P. This and Torchlight II seem to be the best Diablo clones coming.
Well why not play it in addition to do Diablo 3? I sure as hell will be playing Diablo, Grim Dawn, Torchight, and whatever else is worth playing :)

Haha I MIGHT, but for me, I get sucked into Diablo (II) and I know that I will find ONE of those games better than the others, making it hard to go back to them. Likely that game will be Diablo III. That said both of the other games look very good and possibly more reliable in the sense that they don't look as innovative as Diablo III. I know that sounds funny, it is not like Diablo III is changing things up a ton, but it definitely seems to be doing more than most games in the genre so far. If Torchlight II comes out first I will likely buy it and play it until Diablo III.
Also, what was the other games that is free and also an iso ARPG? I am trying to remember the name :P.
Apparently they really need support. Honestly at this point i'm open to the idea of them setting up advanced pre-order on steam so as to help finance their games. Hey if any guys from Grim Dawn are reading this I wouldn't mind you guys doing that(or when you release more extensive and indepth gameplay vids) : )
Edit: Ya i know you guys already have pre-orders set up, but I'd just prefer to buy it on steam.
I'll make that suggestion on their official forums for you, it's probably not a bad idea.Apparently they really need support. As would tons of people. Using steam would be a smart move no doubt.
I love TQ, just started playing it again actually.. and Grim Dawn looks interesting. But if they really "need" help, how much of an incentive is that to pre-order? I think it could go either way. You help to support a game that you know you'll love, and give yourself a little high five, or they don't get as much support as they need and the game flops and you don't get your money back.
Just a little update..I posted the steam beta thing on their site and the main person at Crate had this to say:
I think it is highly likely that by the time we get to beta, we'll have it set up to be playable on Steam. Rhis has already done a little preliminary work to this end with the Steam SDK.medierra
If that also means, up for pre-order, sold. Diablo 3 is pretty close to the release and that means I'm starting to care for it. It's like a sign from divine forces :P this year has lots of games and sequels in this genre, perfect to fill up the waiting time.Just a little update..I posted the steam beta thing on their site and the main person at Crate had this to say:
