My understanding from reading the transcript is that this is basically a straight port of the console version. And if that is the case, some of you have misunderstood about the 9v9 player limit. You see, in CoD 4: Modern Warfare on X360, I think only one game mode supported 9v9, and that was Groundwar. Most of the other game modes actually supported less players. I managed to find some examples, but I'm sure an X360 player could fill you in with other details:
Game Modes:
* Team Deathmatch - Players: 6 - 12 (3v3 - 6v6). Score limit: 750 points. Kill: 10 points.
* Mercenary Team Deathmatch - Players: 6 - 12 (3v3 - 6v6). No parties. Score limit: 750 points. Kill: 10 points.
* Free-for-All - Players: 6 - 8. Score limit: 125 points. Kill: 5 points.
* Domination - Kill: 5 points (don't know player limit?)
* Ground War- Players: 18 (9v9)
* Sabotage - Kill: 10 points (don't know player limit)
* Headquarters - Kill: 5 Points (don't know player limit)
* Search and Destroy - Kill: 50 points (don't know player limit)
* Team Tactical - Small team games that play Team Deathmatch, Domination, Headquarters, Sabotage and Search & Destroy. Players: 4 - 6. Score limit: 500 points. Kill: 10 points.
* Cage Match - Players 2 (1v1). Score limit: 50 points. Kill: 5 points.
When they talk about 'playlists', they mean that only certain maps are available for each game mode, and you have no control over the map rotation. Don't like a map? Tough, your only option is to drop out and try another host. Oh...but IWnet will find the 'best connection' for you automatically, so don't be surprised if you end up with the same host you just left...
And I don't think some of you realise the depth of some of these changes they have mentioned.
You cannot open the console (~ key). That means you cannot change your fps, your FOV (it will undoubtedly be set to 65 like most console games), demo anyone if you suspect them of cheating, or anything else to try to improve performance on your PC.
You cannot kick anyone from ranked matches. What does that mean? It means that rascists, griefers, team killers, spawn campers, spawn rapers, glitchers and hackers (cheaters) cannot be kicked at all during the match. As the IW devs said in that transcript, their advice is to use the 'MUTE' button to tune out offensive language (although they mention nothing about text messages, which are in the game), and they recommend using 'reflect damage' to dissuade team-killers. And you can guarantee that people will exploit the glitches in the maps - and IW's maps have always had glitches.
Players cannot control who hosts. That means all the clan ideas for setting up a decent rig on a good connection to act as host flies out the window, becuase IWnet will choose automatically based on ping. And speaking of ping, on their own internal tests they were getting 100ms or more. So you can guarantee it will be far worse on a global scale. The other thing is that you cannot control where you end up, so you might be in a game with players from lots of different countries, speaking different languages. Good luck with trying to communicate tactics to your team in that instance.
And taking out lean? Putting in 'death' streaks to reward you if you die too much? Honestly, that is just laughable.
In fact, most of the things I've read about the game are laughable. They've stripped out quite a few features from previous games in the series, and jacked up the price. But of course people will still buy it, because they must get their CoD fix. Quite sad, really.
