It certainly takes forever to level in this game ;) and many bugs still.. But I'm sure theyll figure it out in time.

one thing I hope they address is bleeding to death while in cover....since the bandaids and cover buttons are the same, i usually end up dying slowly and painfully :P

i agree...this is pc....no two functions should ever be bound to the same key unless they go together,,,its mind boggling some of the decisions this team made for this game.

The control scheme does have a learning curve but its actually pretty simple to bandage in cover. If you're hit in cover just tap your cover key, you'll pop off of cover, but still be close enough to the wall for protection. Press and hold the cover/bandage key, make sure you hold it, you'll bandage. Tap cover key again to snap back into cover. It's pretty quick and simple once you get used to it.

^^^ Try that fix there from there forums, I have had no crashes in 4 hours since I did that, same with two of my friends. Might nto work but worth a try!

Yeah it really just takes getting use to, its not a game peopel will master right off the bat like some other online FPS. Gotta really give the controls, maps,etc... a chance to sink in (which I love by the way) ;)

Regarding performance

We're working diligently on performance, but improvements/fixes for performance are going to take a bit longer. The fact of the matter is, as a PC game we really pushed the boundaries on the game's content. I know a lot of people have said things like "well I can run game X at 100 FPS on the highest settings." Well that may be true, but game X is most likely a console port and designed to run on a much lower spec machine than RO2. Honestly gamers have gotten a little too used to console ports designed to run on 4-5 year old kit. Everyone talks about the golden age of PC games in the 90's. Well back in that golden age it was very common for a new game to come out that pushed the hardware curve, and people would just update to keep ahead.

Others have said "but I think game X looks much better than RO2, I don't understand why RO2 runs worse." Beauty is in the eye of the beholder of course, and whether someone thinks game X looks better than RO2 is usually down to whether people like our visual **** We don't go over the top with most effects, while other game studios make EVERYTHING from dirt to concrete shine like it's covered in vasoline or go crazy with their post processing. But at the end of the day, when you boil it down to cold hard data, RO2 is pushing more polygons, models, and shaders than most (if not all) other shooters currently on the market. To put it another way, there may be other games that are pushing more details on smaller levels, but we're pushing lots of detail in much larger levels than other games are doing.

With that said, there are improvements that can still be made, and there are things we could have done better before launch. In all of our testing internally the the game was running great on a wide range of hardware (for example, I have a five year old AMD FX-60 dual core with an 8800 sitting next to me that runs the game at a solid 50 frames per second). But as we have learned during the beta and launch there are certain types of PC configurations (even very powerful ones) that are struggling to run the game at a good framerate. So here is what we are working on to address these issues:

Level art optimization: for our levels we tuned our visual detail based on the test hardware we had in our offices. And for these machines the game ran great. But it turns out there are certain CPU's/video cards that frankly just choke on the number of objects we're throwing at them to render (even high end ones). It isn't that this hardware is bad, it just has different strengths/weaknesses than the hardware we developed the game for. So over the coming weeks we're going to be optimizing the levels to have less visible objects in view at one time, which should greatly increase the performance on these levels. Since this is a pretty extensive operation, it will take some time, and what you will likely see is us roll through 1 map at a time releasing an optimized version of each map.

General optimizations: we'll also continue to work on general optimizations to the engine/codebase itself. Some improvements will happen right away, others will be ongoing. This will be ongoing until we get to the point where we feel the majority of users are reasonably happy with the performance they are getting.

I wanted to make everyone aware first off that we're hard at work addressing the issues that have been discovered since the launch. Additionally, we'll be releasing the first patch for the game today in just a little while. This patch will address among other things:

- fixing the day 1 unlocks not working
- spawn menu looping bug
- various crash fixes
- decreased AI MG accuracy for vehicle AI

To be quite frank with you it has taken us a little longer than usual to get an update out post launch. Without going into the boring technical details, the patching functionality built into UE3 is heavily geared toward consoles. So we've struggled a bit working out how to properly do patches on the PC, without requiring a massive download. Anyone in the beta remembers that every update for the beta was fairly large, and this is the reason why. We had thought we had all of this worked out before the final release, but that was not the case.

So rather than saddle you all with a multi-gig download for a small code patch, we've been slaving away on the patching system to get this issue resolved. Fortunately, it looks like we've finally cracked this issue, and will be able to deliver code patches to you all now without requiring overly large downloads.

So once again, you will see an update today, and many more to come. Thank you for your patience while we work diligently to get these issues resolved for you.

Well i just got RO2 for a grand total of £8 thats about $12 for my american friends. Dunno why im telling you that but anyway once Tripwire get everything sorted and the maps start flowing this is going to one of the best bargains ive got this year.

What I got from that was that those "cheap console effects like normal maps and bloom", stuff I hear PC elitests saying is stagnating grpahics, has a damn reason. Here's a game that pushing polygons and it doesn't look much better, if at all, compared to other games. I guess pure polygon count doesn't mean that much afterall.

Anyways it's good to hear they are going to be reoptimizing things. I don't have a lot of problems performance wise, but I don't have any AMD stuff in my comp which apparently seems to cause a lot of problems.

Green Man Gaming, i had about 8 games on there that i got for free ages ago when they got going. You can trade it those games for credit on other games, the credit i got for trading them in took Red Orchestra 2 down to £8.

Has anyone ever respawned on an officer ? When I see in the respawn option there is normaly 2 spawn point and an officer, but I never seem to be able to spawn near him...

222MB update just got released

A required update for Red Orchestra 2 has just been released. Servers must update to maintain compatibility with clients. To recap what is included in this update:

Update includes:

- fixing the day 1 unlocks not working (Note: there still appears to be some cases where unlocks do not appear, but the major reason for them not working has been fixed. We'll continue working on the other issues with the unlocks and get that out asap).
- Improved framerate hitching/dropping when artillery explodes
- spawn menu looping bug
- various crash fixes
- decreased AI MG accuracy for vehicle AI
- Added a system so outdated servers should no longer show in the server browser (so make sure and update so people can find your servers)

Sweet, so thats why my computer was running it better than 6970s and 580s. I also boosted my FPS quite a bit by taking off frame smoothing and putting down shadows to high. Didnt really notice a difference in graphics really.

Whatever, you wasnt in that game. Plus no one is that good and how come he couldnt be kicked from the server? He certainly wasnt a Admin.

unplug it, I had my controller in from a friend trying Dead Island and it started to shake durign a game of Red Orchestra 2 :lol:

Just unlpug it till you need it again.

Last time I used it, my teammate then proceeded to shoot me in the head. One would think if you see a German and Russian soldier right next to each other, it should be fairly easy to tell who is your teammate.... oh well. Bayonets are still awesome.

I'm finding that a lot of people have no idea how to tell Germans and Russians apart. I keep getting shot at by my own guys.

Yeah this happens alot, I think its honestly jsut new players. I have shot a few of my teammates so far (Has happened because they ran in front of someone I was shooting at), not often and of course not on purpose, but when others do it to me I say its okay... unless of course they keep doing it to me :P

I bet in a week or so when people get more use to things well see less team killing.

I've noticed that sometimes it doesnt display friendly names over a person's head, so if you glance quick or see a silhouette in the distance, its hard to tell
