Starcraft 2 VS Dawn of War 2

lol that's funny, who cares about the units look in an rts :lol: :lol: . and better looking envoirments itself is an opinion. technically coh envoirments are good but I would take the envoirments of warcraft 3/starcraft over it anyday

I think you simply prefer the look of Starcraft 2. That does not make it graphically better than a game which has fully physical destructible environments and looks almost as good as a CGI intro of the original. That only makes it look better to your eyes.

I myself prefer a gritty, warlike look to a cartoony look. Starcraft 2 isn't cartoony, but Warcraft is... sort of. Still, neither of them are as gritty as DoW or CoH when it comes down to artsyle. Starcraft (original) did look gritty though. But it still wasn't Warhammer 40k level gritty.

you must understand technical graphics aren't everything. technicaly dow 2 is pretty superior to starcraft 2 but how good a game looks looks is dependent upon what style you prefer. for example for your case you prefer a gritty look rather than cartoony one and would chose the gritty one even if the cartoony graphics are technicall superior. so do you realize graphically which game looks good is all opnion based ?

Yep! I hope so! Both look like exceptional RTS's that everyone should at least give a shot. I know I plan on buying both. I should put two banners in my sig! One saying, "I want StarCraft II" and another saying, "I want Dawn of War II" and just parade around in this thread with them! :P

I was talking to my friends about this. I think relic will push there game more, push the rts genre more with DoW II, and if the level of rts mechanics and detail is anything like CoH but 40K + pushing the graphics then in my opinion it will be TECHNICALLY better than SC II as in a better RTS (not necessarily more balanced though), now which one will I have more fun with THAT I can not say until I play them both, right now though im gonna say SC II.

But yes, any RTS fan will own both of these great games.

There should really be an option to choose both. If I had to choose on it will probably be StarCraft2, gameplay aside not all my friends have gaming PC's and its really more fun to play games with people you know. If SC2 scales back far enough to run on laptops than it would be even better.Nikalai_88

Very sound reasoning and I will agree, especially since Blizzard has said as much regarding their upcoming sequel. It's interesting how the popularity of Blizzard's games has become so high now that is actually prevents them from taking risks and innovating. But the Starcraft fanboys are going to outvote you in this poll, their emotion for the series runs deep.

as you know DOW is a great game but its not balanced... and the online play is horrible you cant compare it with SC,
SC is the best balanced game ever and it has a great gameplay and online play, and that is something that DOW will never have

maybe DOW2 will have better graphics than SC2 but it will be the same thing that hapened whit DOW and SC, DOW have better graphics but its gameplay sucks (compared with SC), also we are comparing DOW (a 2004 game) whit SC (a 1997 game) and they are even...

so there is no doubt that DOW2 will have better graphics but anyway SC2 will be much better, in gameplay and online play.

Well, considering my friends play Starcraft, I'll probably pick up S2 before DoW2.

Quality doesn't matter much when you know which ones are going to be played by your buddies.

It's worth mentioning that dawn of war 2 won't have an emphasis on base building any more, seems to be really freaky. (good freaky)

Also, DoW does currently have tournaments, around €10k worth of prize money at the moment. A recent €5k tourney was held in Berlin, which is weird, as Dawn of War doesn't get this kind of money, ever.... Read more here.

I as just talking to one of my friends who's on the development team, and he said that DoW2 won't be like SC at all. Where SC2 will be about getting a base, outeconing/teching your opponent and then fighting your opponent (obviously + harassing). DoW2 will be about just harassing, fighting for econ, and then moar fighting

Dow has 9 races, by the way...

I predict that Bnet will continue to be better than Relic Onilne and Relic RTS's will continue to have vastly more complex game mechaics than Blizzards. Furthermore I predict that Blizzard's game will be more balanced both out of the box and after a year than Relic's.

Anyone want to bet against me? :-)

It's amazing to see that this race is so close - not because I necessarily think one game will be better than the other, but because StarCraft is... StarCraft. Its fanbase is as numerous as the Zerg. The seven races in DoW is a fundamental flaw in why it is so imbalanced. Also, the seven races have units which are similar to each other and overlap.

In starcraft, every unit has no alternative. Starcraft has a reputation for impeccable balance, some could say it is 'perfect'.
