[QUOTE="IxX3xil3d0n3XxI"]Its never to late to try to experience another culture. No reason to be close minded and shun any game that isnt of western descent. Try embracing some of its "oddities" and you might find a extremely deep and rewarding game like what i did with FFXI and how it enraptured me. vfibsux

You just said it is never too late to TRY to experience another culture, yet you call us close minded for TRYING it and not liking it.

Nothing more ironic than people calling you close minded for not thinking like them.

In case no one has noticed, the fanboys for this game are going to rival WoW's.

Not going to argue, so ill just say I'm sorry.

[QUOTE="Ballroompirate"]

[QUOTE="FelipeInside"] Uhhhh sorry Oh Great God of Knowledge. I deeply apologize that us inferior beings to yourself have commented on something and you have shown us your wisdom by coming on here and relating your wealth of information into our souls. Seriously now and coming back to reality after your insulting post which was totally unnecessary and could have been much better if you had just respectfully stated some things, I merely said I had not seen it as much as I have in Realm Reborn. Next time maybe YOU'LL refrain from insulting people that comment on your beloved game and don't agree with your opinion.... (one can only hope)FelipeInside

First off I don't care if people like FF14 ARR or don't like it, I do care if people spew BS information on what they think is something factual when it isn't. Also if you want to call my "insulting" which was a blunt "I'm gonna correct you" without the hold your hand approach on what you thought was wrong was un called for, then your post saying it's just a "It's maybe a Japanese thing" is what??? totally called for in your little delusional world?

You think calling someone's post "stupid" is not insulting?

Where did I say something factual? I said that this was the first MMO where I've noticed so many people running around naked.

And the Japanese thing was me responding to Geminon, who actually explained/answered my question in a respectful manner and by not arriving on the imaginary high horse you think you ride.

Next time, actually read the posts before you comment, or don't comment at all if you can't carry a civilized conversation without resorting to insults because you don't know what to say.

You must not play enough MMOs.

Every MMO I have played has people running around naked whether it was from Japan or NA or somewhere else.

The only time I saw alot people running around without their armor in FF14 are groups of low lvl characters or those that want try on the swimsuits from the summer event.

And why even mention it?

You act like it's something negative.....

I quite like the art design in this game, especially some of the clothing.

The lag in the game is annoying though.....especially with Titan Hard.

^^ Well, it's fine seeing some here and there but from the little I played it was a bit excessive and it got annoying. Doesn't take anything away from the game of course, looks like a solid MMO. They have to fix the gold spammers though....you can't even read the GENERAL Chat from the spammers scrolling...

You are probably seeing a lot because the summer event which gave out swimsuits for beating a simple fate.

The gold spammers are annoying but you see them in all MMOs.

Appreciate that, nothing to argue about. The game is not for everyone, doesn't mean anything...no different than some people like chocolate and some vanilla.

[QUOTE="FelipeInside"] LOL, include me in that group. I don't mind the FF Universe, but they concentrate too much on Anime Girls with little skirts.... and this is the first MMO I've played where people run around naked or with little to no clothes on, wtf is that about.Geminon

I know, right? What's up with that...bunch of pervs probably touching themselves while they play....ok that might be too far. But yeah...

? why do you assume this is FF? that is a japanese thing... not an FF thing. and... i have seen like one guy, in the thousands of players i have seen playing, running around in underwear.... you must have a weird server or are exaggerating.

Not even a Japanese thing. most Western females in games have chainmail bikinis, just a double standard.

I am tempted to buy this from GetgamesGo w/ the discounted price. Hmmm HMMM.  Although, I never really liked the art style.  Gameplay seems/looks static and I could be wrong.

FelipeInside
I'm just commenting on the starting areas since I only have probably 3-4 hrs gametime. Gameplay is very static, similar to WoW's, not the real time combat like GW2. Story is pretty weak and quests are very repetitive at the start but people say it gets better later on.

-_- no Felip thats a bad Felip. "Static and Real time" for starters all of these combats are real time. not turn based. Secondly, Guild Wars 2 is not action, or "real time combat" its the same combat as WoW with an added roll function. that is literally the only difference, still a timer based hotkey spam. I don't understand people's messed up views on guild wars. its a damn hotkey mmo ... through and though, just like WoW.

I consider GW2 real time because you can dodge attacks. Yes, it still has time outs on spells/skills, but you can move around and evade enemy attacks as well as combine skills with other players in real time. In a game like RR or WoW, you can move around all you want but it's mostly pointless (unless area attack) because the hit will always hit. In WoW and RR I just found myself standing there trying to kill the other guy before me using all my skill set.... meanwhile in GW2 I actually have to move around, roll, evade, etc.

I dont think anyone is saying GW2 isnt real time. But ARR is real time too. Both ARR and GW2 use the same timekeeping system. GW2 is more action like though.

Of the numbered Final Fantasies, only 1, 2, 3 and 10 were turn based.

Ladies and Gentlemen I present some info on Patch 2.1, which is confirmed for this year: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/blog/000494.html Treasure Hunting (in single player this was mostly, using your chocobos to sniff out and dig treasure around the world). Crystal Tower - the first 24 Man dungeon of many floors with different themes, crystal tower will grow with future patches aswell. Houseing - both personal and guild. Wolves Den - I believe that is the arena PvP

Ok, bought the game. Wondering if I should focus on being a bard or being some kind of tank.

How much support does the bard bring? Will I focus primarily on support or will I focus primarily on dealing damage?

Yeah man.. funny you bought it.. i was just going to buy it but I'd like to take a poll (i don't mean to hijack the thread). Is it really worth it? Anyone can answer with yes or no, explanation if you want. Thanks in advance. I'm still watching every user and critic review, gameplay videos out there. The art style is growing on me which is something that is very important as much as gameplay of course. I'm going to give this one a deep thought since I have so many games, this one if great, will probably take over.

It depends what do you want from an MMO? it doesn't try to be different. its just the classic EQ/WoW style but with final fantasy flair, and it does it really well, challenge closer to Classic/TBC WoW.

That's exactly what I'm after, so that should be a good thing. I still hold WoW+TBC on a pedestal as the MMO to beat till this day. So with that said, I'm not the biggest Final Fantasy fan, although I'm a fan of the fantasy genre. Sh!t, I know I'm complicated and picky so sorry about that.

I cant speak for myself yet, since it is still installing.

I know Charizard1605 likes it a lot calling it the best mmo in ages. And I have seen general praise of the game in a lot of places.

Be aware though that the first 30 odd levels are designed for people new to the genre and console gamers, so don't expect much resistance/challenge until after that point.

Well, read through most of the links in the OP and checked out so many other things. I decided to buy it. Grabbed it off GMG for $22.50 using that promo code. Not bad I guess. I'll drop my player name in a bit so feel free to add me if you wan to group up and stuff.

bought a sealed copy on ebay, could'nt find a physical copy anywhere in town or on amazon. Now I keep getting "the entered code is invalid" at registration(the 20 character code) , but oddly the 18 character code was able to register on my account.

I just sent an email to square, hopefully they answer back soon -_-

Played a bit,, the tutorial part is a bit lengthy, and the town (playing as marauder) is passable. At least it isnt the capitals in RIFT. Havent gotten into combat yet though. Liked the FF fanfare when I leveled up. Can't wait to chop people down with my axe.

Man what did GW2 really do to you? lol.....FelipeInside

Yup, but the point is. I like how this game is progressing, 2.1 looks like a pretty good update. And if this is a sign of things to come, I certainly wont mind paying a monthly fee for this.

I know spammers are everywhere, but in RR it's so bad that you can't even see the General Chat cause it's all gold spam posts. They need to fix this asap. As for the server sync, it's unbelievable that an MMO launches without this. What I mean by sync is your settings are stored on the server so when you play on different computers everything is where you put it. In RR if you move a spell somewhere else, then go to another PC, that spell isn't moved and you have to move it manually. It's a big turn off for me (and lots of people) cause I normally play at home and at work.

Does anyone know how the PS3 version works? I was thinking of getting a used copy if you only need the installation (want it for my lazy days). Wasn't sure if you need a key or not.

The art style is not like I imagined from watching videos and looking at screenshots. It's surprisingly great.. and I'm very very picky about art style. Visually, it's fantastic. Very clean, very final fantasy so they did a great job. Great performance so far. Servers aren't hitching up. So far, I'm very impressed.

I haven't felt this way about an MMO since World of Warcraft.

Very clean, very final fantasy so they did a great job. Great performance so far. Servers aren't hitching up. So far, I'm very impressed.

I haven't felt this way about an MMO since World of Warcraft.

Be aware though that the first 30 odd levels are designed for people new to the genre and console gamers, so don't expect much resistance/challenge until after that point.

ARR picks up like at lvl 32 when you can do the Brayflox dungeon then after that Titan, Garuda and pretty much every other dungeon will test you and your group. The game is pretty tough on people who are use to faceroll mechanics that WoW has had for the past 4 years.

Also the story in ARR drastically picks up after lvl 30 and some of the job/class quests are pretty amazing, loved the pug class quests and so far the monk quests are interesting. People give the fate grinding way too much flack cause now I've realised ARR is pretty much FF11 2.0, which isn't a bad thing in my books cause FF11 is tied with vanilla/BC WoW for me in the best MMO department. Final Fantasy 11 had a lot of party/killing mob grinding and fate grinding is pretty much the same thing but leagues faster getting exp and not having the fear on pulling more than 1 mob which pretty much = a wipe in FF11.

Btw Kevin gave ARR a 7.0, which doesn't surprise me since he gave GW2 a 9.0.

That's great to hear but a game shouldn't make you go to lvl 30 to be good...

Yeah we all have different tastes.  I found SWTOR to be boring from the beginning to the last second I gladly quit playing it.  But you enjoy SWTOR.  That's it really, we find what we like to play and enjoy the heck out of it.  It's just refreshing to finally play an MMO that is this great. Thing is, I wasn't expecting anything from FF14 ARR or the original, but it turned out to be a real winner in my book.

It shouldnt, but I would rather have a good endgame and a poor early game than a good early game and poor endgame.

We do. And variety is the spice of life. If we all agreed on everything, going to gaming forums would be a boring thing indeed. Not to mention, if everyone had the same tastes, I am sure gaming as a whole would be very homogenized.

Same as Felipe, it had me that way too. There are a ton of people still playing it who like it so who is to say you won't feel this way at 50 as well?

Decided to purchase the digital version and see how it is.  I definitely wasn't the biggest fan of Final Fantasy XI, but after putting in a few hours into this game, A Realm Reborn seems more to my taste.  Went with an Archer for the time being; seems like a decent class so far.

Since several people here seem to be on the same server, is there a Gamespot linkshell at all?  Had to turn off a bunch of channels due to mass spamming, but it would be nice to see some chatter going on.

Yeah, I'm on the same server.  I attempted a search, but it didn't find anyone by that name.

just another way for you to express yourself in game.... and i dont know why anyone would be AGAINST player housing. it is ALWAYS a good thing IMO. you will be able to show off trophies from bosses you have downed, gear sets that may not be good to wear anymore but look awesome.... and just spend some time decorating and being creative. more features are never a bad thing.

Yeah true, it would be like a collection thingy. I'm not saying more features are bad, or that player housing is bad....I just never understood the lure. One thing is for sure, they have to make sure they don't concentrate too many resources on it and take away from the main game.

if FF11 was any indication, it is not SE's focus to create an endgame progression driven game. FF11 was always more concerned about creating an FF world for you to play in, and it seems like they are carrying that over to FF14. i have a feeling you are going to see a LOT more content patches that flesh out the world than you will see with new dungeons and loot.
