Easy. Morrowind, a good story is worth everything to me. Of course the flying made it funnier too. But most of all i liked the sense that i was really there. The racism against the khajiit and argonians, the extravagant cities and the exciting dwarven tunnel complexes.

Oblivion was more shiny and stuff, but completely soul-less, way to generic to like the conversations"-i saw a mudcrab the other day --Really? --Bye" Even the caves is so normal i fell like screaming, like i have only stumbled upon one non-story related boss in a cave. The lack of power that you felt even though you where high level was annoying too. I didn't even get to build a tower.

If you have played through morrowind and oblivion you would get it...

This is no contest. Morrowind is the winner hands down. Anyone who has played through both them should be able see this. Oblivion was just eye candy and felt completely empty and soulless in comparrison to Morrowind.

I feel Morrowind is easily the better RPG. It has a better story, deeper gameplay, more options... in so many ways, the game is just more interesting to me. Oblivion is, when all is said and done, not all that great an RPG.

Oblivion does have the better graphics by a wide margin, and the action side of the gameplay is better, but it lacks depth and a really intriguing storyline. Add to that the fact that almost all monsters and treasures level with you as you play, and you have a somewhat predictable game. It has fewer factions and quests, fewer skills, the spells and weapons were altered too much (taking away Levitate, Recall, Spears and Crossbows? What the hell was that about?) and the AI was nothing like what was initially promised, being no better than Morrowind's, IMO.

Both games are good, but I'd have to give Morrowind the nod as the better game without even a moment of hesitation. Oblivion is good and I'm currently enjoying it, but it's not nearly as great as Morrowind, even with mods.

Morrowind, hands down.

Oblivion was, bland (not talking about graphical aspects) overall when compared to Morrowind. The NPC may have had better AI in Oblivion, but that doesn't make them or the game any better. The way things leveled with you as you played, made Oblivion feel dumbed down and also the fact that treasure sucked and you never got anything worth while unless you actually took the time to level up to 20+.

Morrowind was more alive then Oblivion. You could actually feel like you were there because the NPC actually talked (no voice dialog for the most part), even though you had to read most of the dialog. The story line was better and the gameplay was more interesting and even the add on content was worth picking up to play through....whereas you could pay to pick up some "horse armor" in Oblivion....big whoop!

Morrowind was better and Oblivion will never be able to come close to contend with it.

It depends on what you're looking for. I personally liked Morrowind a lot more. By not striving for realism so much, it was somehow more realistic. Go figure.

The other two factors making Morrowind better in my eyes are the atmosphere, and the "soul" as many people have already mentioned.

Morrowind hands down. The environments were a lot more varied and interesting. There was no god awful level scaling. I like the music more. I liked the feeling that you were making important and lasting choices that impacted the rest of the game. (even though it was fairly rare)

The replies say a lot. The ones who prefer Oblivion either went "OBLIVION" or "OBLIVION, BETTER GRAPHICS, BETTER GAMEPLAY, THERE IS ACTUALLY VOICED DIALOGUE" etc etc. While the Morrowind fans spoke of Morrowinds soul, depth, and just the immersiveness of playing it.

Morrowind is by far the better game, but if you have played Oblivion it might be hard to get into Morrowind. I started with Oblivoin, and when I played Morrowind, I knew this game was better. But I couldn't get into it. The graphics can be fixed, but the game is still dated. Comparing them from their time though, Morrowind wins, hands down.

If I can chose a full paragraph explaining how this simple farmer desperately needs help, as his only berloved daughter has been kidnapped by goblins and that he promises anything, as long as he gets his daughter back, or chose "Rats are dying in my basement, help!"...

I'll go for the first one.

Thank god that a lot of people understand that morrowind is way better than oblivion, there is no point in comparing them.Oblivion was oversimplified and boringified(new word).

We had a thread about this yesterday!

Anyway, Morrowind, easily.
I hated it at first, but I went back to it a few months later...and sunk a few hundred hours into it (wihtout mods). It wouldn't make my 'top ten' list of great RPGs, but it was packed with content and fun to play.

Oblivion lacked content, complexity, customisation and exploration - hell, everything that I enjoyed about Morrowind.

i played both and its not hard to say(just like most of you's have said)morrowind is a far better choice as to story line and imagination. morrowind felt more like you were part of the game as the blight storms and the bosses actually scared the living s@&t out of you, and the fact that racism towards argonians and kajjits, made it fell more like real life. also the rivalry towards guilds was great. the other thing i loved was the horror towards morrowind, especially with the depression of the blight storms, it made me feel sad for the game and made me want to play on longer to help stop the evil spread. the differant types of building designs was a + aswell because, lets face it oblivian buildings were all the same which made it quite bland and unconstructive(excluding graphics) it just wasnt cut out to take out morrowind as being better. im playing oblivian at the moment, and i havnt seen a damn enchanter once, enchanting was the best for morrowind as it was easy to find someone to enchant your items, given the fact that it cost alot to enchant, it just didnt seem like they made an effort to oblivian when it came to keeping their fans with them, as they were more wound up o make the environment and graphics look cool. dont get me wrong , i still think oblivian is a magnificant game, i just think it could of had morrowind simularities to it...i hope i didnt write to much

Morrowind easily. The only thing Oblivion did better was the graphics, for everything else I prefer Morrowind. I really enjoyed playing Morrowind and it had me hooked for ages just playing it vanilla, before the extra time from any mods. With Oblivion I really wanted to love it, but found I was forcing myself to play it and try to get into it. I had to resort to downloading loads of mods to fix bits that were designed lazily for consoles and used on the PC version, and eventually gave up fighting to like the game and went back to Morrowind.

Oblivion is clearly less buggy and more graphically advanced than Morrowind, but compared to Morrowind Oblivion is TES for casuals; as everything has been over simplified.

Were poor balancing allowed power players in Morrowind, Oblivion outright encourages and rewards it.

Morrowind did have a better story overall, but to be honest, a lot was brutally boring. Like getting elected Hortator? That was nothing but dreadful tedium; I almost quit on the game trying to get through all the endless NPC hunting and Silt Strider hopping.

Besides the main one, I thought Oblivion's questlines were far superior to Morrowind's. Larger in scale, more suprises, and characters who actually do more than just sit in the same spot and dispense quests.

And to those who believe that the skills system, economy, monster leveling etc. of Oblivion were awful, keep in mind that Morrowind had its quirks as well. Magic was a huge pain in the butt to use, medium armor was pretty much useless, and combat consisted of just standing in front of an enemy waving your weapon (best attack only) hoping to hear an impact sound. It was also possible to become fabulously rich and practically invincible within the first few hours of play, which sounds cool, but it really shouldn't be possible unless it's a cheat. At least, not if you want a challenging game.

I think morrowind has a lot more variety in the scenery. Walking through mountain passes or the wind gusts in the desert or the lush swampy river fronts gives an incredible experience. Oblivion was much more homogeneous. Also Oblivion was hurt a lot by the creatures leveling with you. Morrowind is better hands down.

Morrowind. It's not even close. I'll grant that Oblivion looks better (it should, given that it was released 4 years later) and I miss having slightly more involving combat, but the rest is just so bad that it's embarrassing. Morrowind wasn't perfect by any stretch, but it was competent to good in all areas and with a light amount of modding, you can have an excellent experience. Man, now I've got to go back and play it.

Depends what you're looking for.

I only played a few hours of Morrowind, and that was years and years ago, but I know there was far much more to it than Oblivion. Oblivion is a great game if you want to pick up an adventure/action/RPG and kill mudcrabs, but if you want to get immersed in a fantasy world then Morrowind is probably your best bet.

If you consider yourself a mature adult gamer that wants a serious story and characters you have to think about a little rather than be spoon fed, then Morrowind, with mods, is your game.

If you find Oblivion a liitle challow with the levelling creatures etc, get a couple mods: Martigen's Monster Mod, which adds new creatures and a much better non-levelling AI, and Francesco's Creature-Item mod. Don't bother with the vreature bit, that'sthe same as MMM, but add the items bit and get 100's of new levelled weapons.

Now you can go into an Ayelid Ruin, see a headless Zombie soldier in his leather armour carry a rusty weapon, you can kill him, but will now have to watch in case he raises up agian, and when he does, you see that dead Khajit Adventurer there with that Silver Axe? Well, when that Zombie raises up, if he see that axe, he won't pick up his rusty sword, he pick up that more powerful axe! Of course, because he may not raise up for anything up to three minutes, you may be long gone bfore he raises and picks up that axe. And all the while he standing there he's getting his energy back and waiting for you to return..........

I got more gaming hours out of Morrowind, so much to do... the only way oblivion was better was Graphics, Combat system, and Voice overs (which is optional for me anyway). I hope for the next TES game that it returns all the cut features from oblivion (medium Armour, Axes, spears, and unarmored just to name a few) and add more on top of that, with a combat system similar to oblivion's, and with a decent storyline

i truly hated the arrow system (meaning the thing on the compass) that pointed you exactly where to go. Oblivion was not an rpg, but an action game. Man i remember the good ol morrowind days when you actually searched for the cave you needed to go to (more realistic and fun) instead of having it spoon fed.

I notice some gamers refer to Morrowind having a 'soul' that was absent in Oblivion. If you have never played one or both of the games, let me try to explain the difference. In Morrowind, the island of Vvardenfell felt like an actually existing world. There was a main quest and side quests/factions, but the world seemed to operate relatively independent of you. You could spend all of your time looting random dungeons or breaking into people's homes/castles and steal their valuables and be suitably rewarded for it. Since much of the loot was static, while this made it possible to become overpowered at a low level, it felt like you were just an inhabitant in this land. Your mere existence was meaningless; the world would continue if you had never arrived. In Oblivion, it feels very much like a game. Instead of you being a mere participant in the world, it gave you the feeling that the world revolved solely around you. Again, there's a main quest and side quests/factions, but there was basically nothing else. Everything was scaled to your level- you'd never find quality items at level 1 nor would you find total garbage at level 40. Animals such as rats and wolves that exist when you start the game suddenly become extinct once you hit a certain level while new creatures randomly appear. The world never felt like it truly existed without you because your mere presence (and level) changed the world. So your thievery and subsequent leveling up on the east part of Cyrodil affected what happened on the west coast- it's just not believable.

morrowind = unique, interesting

oblivion = a black(or red) hole of repeativness, oblivion was simply a port, and like all ports lack the creative edge true pc games have. adding in cheap tools used to create "random" dungeons and suchfor lazy developers and this game is just fail when compared to real computer games.

which is why i beat morrowind, and all the expansions, and the "uber and epic"wizards island mod, which took years of my life away

while on the other hand oblivion took about 20 to 40 hours of my life, i tried to give it a chance but its just a terrible game for anyone who's played a real game like morrowind.

Oblivion stretches the meaning of RPG. It is more of an action/adventure game with RPG elements
