Edit - 12/29/09 Damn, I'm Bored so Imma bump this 2 year old thread xPPPP! So yeah, as the title says ahah.

Basically what im asking is What got you guys into Final Fantasy and what game started it all for you?

For me it wasa presentfor 6th birthday. I got it a day after my birthday. My mom took me to the navy exchange to see what game i wanted. The first thing to catch my eye...what else but Final Fantasy VII. Right when i saw it i knew i had to have it. Sure it was next to parasite eve but forgetthat haha. When i got home i remember playing it nonstop and i believe ive played it around 20 Times already. That was 10 years ago on May 6th, 1998, and now look were we're at, and final fantasy looks as good as ever, and i remember when VII had the BEST graphics in the whole gaming world, it was wierd but if you play it now something in your head says "This looked good to me????" But hey, that was the 7th game so its been what, 20+ years in the making of the whole final fantasy series? Well, to me and forever will be to me,

Final Fantasy = One of the Greatest GameSeries Ever Made (MGS Seriesa close second maybe 3rd XDDD)

So yeah, again, what got all of you started into it if you have played it and which game was your first ever final fantasy

Back when I was about 11 (approx. 1991), I went with my dad to a store called 'Toys & Wheels' in a local mall. They had a sale on their NES games, so I picked up 'River City Ransom' and 'Final Fantasy'. I played these two games non-stop for so long, and my love of Final Fantasy began. I've played every FF game throughout the years (except for Crystal Chronicles), and absolutely love the series. The only sad thing is that I've never beaten a Final Fantasy game. I have a bad habit of playing for many hours, putting the game away for a few days/weeks, and then starting from scratch again. :(

I would have to say that it was probably Final Fantasy VII that got me into it. Actually the only two that I have actually played are VII and Tactics. Tactics is easily my favorite though

I got into it pretty late. I only got a Playstation about a year before the PS2 came out (my brother made us get a 64 instead of it) and the first FF game I played was IX which is still my favorite and what got me into the series. we didn't ever get a SNES because again, my brother made us get a Genesis.

oh well.

haha ok, ikinda loved and hated nine. Its really a hit or miss,I thought some of htecharacter designs were pretty great, and some were just friggen STUPID, but then also, all of them were super short, which was not normal, i believe ff8 had best ps1 final fantasy graphics of them all

Well I have never actually played a proper FF game, only demo's. I was never a fan of RPG but I'm gonna change that this gen. I actually only started gaming about 7 years ago and didn't really know much about FF.

I loved the character design, I thought it was original and I like things that are different from everything else. and just because the people in 8 looked better doesn't mean it has nicer graphics. but the music in 9 is fantastic.

Remembering back then is weird. My older brother was like "Wanna help me pay for a new game?" (I was nine or eight). So I did and then our whole family gathered round the couch on a cloudy evening the day he got it. Seeing the intro we were all awe-struct. Then the first battle came and no of us knew what to do until we finally figured out that strangely enough the O button was the select button and the X button was the cancel button (we weren't used to that). But when we got the hang of it the electricity went out from lightning.

So that was that, it was very memorable playing Final Fantasy VII for the first time and what got me interested in this other country called Japan".

I'm a Final Fanasy noob, I started with 12 and loved it untill my PS2 broke down and I never got to finish it. I've also started playing Final Fantasy 3 on the DS and I like that as well.

It seems most people started with 7 or later, which is a real shame, because FF6 is as good as any other FF game, and probably my personal favorite. No, the graphics were not revolutionary, even at the time (although they were pretty good for SNES), but the story depth had never been seen like it was in 6 and I still think it has the best story (in my opinion).

BTW, I started with FF about the same as someone else did, I borrowed ff4 from a friend and was pretty much hooked. I remember begging for FF3 (6) on Christmas of the day it came out. (I also remember buying Chrono Trigger from Babbages the day it came out for $91, because they released it a day earlier there than anywhere else I was able to get to ;) )

I've played almost all FF games other than chronicles and that crappy one that came out for the ps2, Dirge of Cerberus, as I was 100% sure it was gonna suck, and although I've never played it, apparently it does. There are some of the newer handheld FF I haven't played.

Kind of hard to rank them in order, but I can probably give my top 10:

10: Final Fantasy 1 or Mystic Quest (I honestly don't enjoy either one, or 2/3, since I played them all AFTER playing FF4 and 6, on the PS/GBA (for 2/3), which are both far superior in every aspect) (I could also put X-2, as although it wasn't great, it's better than these other ones mentioned)

9: Final Fantasy 5

8: Final Fantasy 4

7: Final Fantasy XII

6: Final Fantasy 9

5: Final Fantasy 8

4: Final Fantasy X

3: Final Fantasy 7

2: Final Fantasy 6

1: Final Fantasy Tactics

Not "totally" true, final fantast 10 had a pretty good story, AMAZING graphics when it came out as the first ps2 final fantasy to ever come out and yeah but i rate it a 7/10 compared to 7 HOPEFULLY they do remake ff7 in 2008-10 or in the near future

Went in to toysrus at the age of around 11, saw Final Fantasy VII for 14.99, it was one of the very few ps1 games left on the shelf and one of the cheapest ones at that, so I bought it. Been hooked ever since.

Yeah, i would too. Final Fantasy Tactics was sitting right next to it for the same price. I remember thinking that I should get VII instead simply because it had three discs, in my head that meant it was a better deal.

In high school, got all "F"ed up and layed in someone's bed while he played FF7. "What the h is this game", I asked myself, and him. Later, I bought it with my hard earned pizza delivery tips and spent more time playing it than any other game before or since (200+ hours). First loves...ahhh.

Final fantasy 7 was my first time. Final fantasy X(10) was next (8 & 9 didn't interest me). Then came Kingdom Hearts (Same difference).

i say kingdom hearts kind of ruined the final fantasy serioes =0 disney kinda made it too kiddy, made final fantasy appeal to little kids

I rented Final Fantasy II when you could still rent SNES games. Played it...and hated it. I was young, so it didn't click as to why when I loaded the last guy's save that all my characters were pigs...

Anyway, Blockbuster was selling their copy a few months later for $10 and I figured i'd give it another go. Been hooked on the series ever since. Not to mention the fact that game remains my favorite of all of them =D
