Wow this is crazy, i turned on my PS 3 at around 12:30 AM Eastern and wasnt able to sign in. I wasnt actually in the mood to play anything so i watched a dvd and good thing i did because i had no ide a this was going on. This is inexcusable, there needs to be some serious work done by Sony to prevent this from ever happening again. Keep us all up to date guys, ty.
I usually play my games offline. I just logged unto my ps3 offline and I got that bug that says its 12/31/99. I have a 60gb ps3 btw. It doesn't matter if you log on your ps3 online or offline you will still get that bug. Might have to with the latest patch.
Hope they fix this soon.
DO NOT FORMAT YOUR PS3's!
Yes, even with this 8001050F error occuring , my playstation Home app updated. BUT after the update installs itself the 8001050F error is still prevalent and wont let you walk around imagination land.
The error is a firmware issue, restoring factory settings won't fix it. All of the PS3 fatties are were defective the day they were put in your box.
This isn't an error you 'downloaded'.
People need to stop handing out mis-information.
I advise everyone to not listen to anyone other than Sony themselves when it comes to the solution to the problem.
One of my friends lost all of his data after formatting his PS3, because someone on a forum said it would work.
Well my PS3 has been on and logged in for around 3 days now but I still have problems.
My date is ok, 1/3/2010, time is ok, I'm still signed in, but I cant play anything and my trophies will disapear if I play a game that supports them.
I can still chat and send messages.
You might be scared to turn yours on, I'm scared to turn mine off. =P
Even though I've encountered this bug is it wise to make copies of my game saves? Just as a precaution. Kicking myself for not doing it sooner.
And I concure... ITS BAD ADVICE... DON'T DO IT !!!! LoS"If you receive an 800 series error code on the PLAYSTATION 3 system, we recommend performing the following steps which may correct the problem. Install the Latest System Software Update To check what version of the System Software is currently installed on your PLAYSTATION 3, from the PS3 Home Menu go to Settings > [System Settings] > [System Information]. The system will display the System Software version number. You can check online to make sure you have the latest version installed. Restore Default Settings From the PS3 Home Menu, go to Settings > [System Settings] > [Restore Default Settings]. Once you select Restore Default Settings, you will see a list of settings that will be restored. Scroll through them and press the X button to restore the settings. After the operation is complete, you will see the initial set-up screen that appeared the first time you turned on the PLAYSTATION 3 system. You will need to go through the initial set-up process before you can use the PLAYSTATION 3 system. If this does not resolve this error, please contact us."
Question for you then sir. Do you get the 8001050F error too? Or can you still play offline games? It's understandable the clock thing goes awry offline, but hopefully the trophy error doesn't develop offline either.I usually play my games offline. Well this is just perfect! I thought something was wrong with my file for Heavy Rain like it had corrupted data. I deleted everything on Heavy Rain and was willing to start over (5 hours GONE, than you very much!) and now I have to start over. I thought if I tried to play a different game (Dragon Age) then it wouldn't be a problem. Nope! Trophy data just up and disappeared. So does that mean I'm screwed with 2 games now?
I haven't been able to play my PS3 online for about a month so it's not something with PSN. If the problem doesn't correct itself and my system is bricked, I'm finished with this crap.
What is it with this generation of games?! Red Rings of Death, Leap Year Glitches.... I never had this problem with my PS2 on down to the original Atari. I am really freaking pissed off about all this crap!
We need to face facts people we got OWNED!! It might as well of just said 'Error Code - 1337OWNED'x_SprayerJosh-Xhush Xbox lover! :p
Looks like they flipped the kill switch on fat PS3's :P lets hope they get this fixed soon and atleast give us some kinda update it's been hours since the last one people are panicking too much. I wanna shoot some people damnit.
Bankrupt them via class action lawsuit? 5 years from now if we won we all go home $50 richer. So is it possible that Sony couldn't fix this at all? What then? Screwed?

(fake) PSN release: the fix is buy a slim :P *respberry* if that happens i say get the pichforks&tourches and march on japan! no the only other alt would be to get a slim and soft mod it to take an aux OS plus other missing functions. or a hard mod for the phatties....So is it possible that Sony couldn't fix this at all? What then? Screwed?

That is a good question. Only tried with Uncharted 2 and it worked (yay me). Will try with my other games later.

Likely won't happen, but if it did that would suck. No incentive to buy a ps3 slim since it can't play ps2 games.
I'm not sure if it has been mentioned, but I'm fairly sure the trophy data is only lost on the individual console, not on PSN servers. A friend of mine still has his PS3 up and running and confirmed that my Fifa 10 trophies (which I believed were lost) were still on my online profile. So I believe once this problem is fixed and trophy data is synced, everyone should get their trophies back.
I hope.
anything new... that constructive?STAY ON TOPIC PLEASE

Is anyone worried that the reason they are taking so long to tell us what is going on is because there is no firmware fix or waiting it out till tomorrow. Maybe they are keeping quiet because they need to fix every PS3 individually and if that is the case it would cost them thousands of dollars.kewlguitarist
You might want to rethink that estimation. Physically repairing every "Phat" PS3 model would cost millions of dollars in the end... regardless of the simplicity of the fix. Somehow they are going to have to resolve this with either a firmware patch or they're going to have to send out usb drives or CDs, with software, to each and every owner of a "phat" PS3 that needs the fix. Even that is going to be extremely costly.
The other possibility is that this could all just blow over after a day or so... but somehow I kinda doubt it will. Sony has a real problem on their hands. Good luck to them, because they are going to need it. If I didn't already have a 360 I'd be thinking what a lot of other people probably already are, "I'm about to get a friggin' 360 man," lol.
I think worst case, i will just buy a slim and swap my HDD. But i hope they fix it. I have taken very good care of my PS3. It has never had any issue until now and i agree with something someone mentioned earlier. This should not have been an issue after the Y2k fears. Some dumb ass dropped the ball on this and if they are from Japan, guareented they are about to commit honorable suicided :P
I think this is just another way for them to get us to buy the PS3 slim and make more money, it wouldn't suprise me one bit if they didn't release this bug! i am so ***** right now! ... I think they will end up fixing this but they will drag it on so we get soo frustrated and buy the slim.Mr_Fujiv1
Good luck with that. I'll just buy a "NEW" 80gb PS3 model and NEVER plug it into an ethernet cable. I hate the Slim models. I prefer the external features of the regular PS3 consoles, not to mention the backwards compatibility. By the way, some people will get so frustrated that they will simply jump ship and buy a 360. The reverse happened when Xbox Live crashed for an entire month in late December 2007.
