He isn't wrong.

Yes he is. Spraying into another country and hitting bystanders is an ass move.

It's simple. Don't try to force your way into the country. Don't be there.

They weren't trying to force themselves into the country. They tried to present themselves at a legal port of entry, as they were directed to by U.S. law enforcement, but Trump already ordered all the nearby ports of entry closed. How convenient that he closes the places where legal immigration is supposed to take place before launching a media assault on illegal immigration, and you conservative lemmings eat it right up. Anyway, they can't present at a port of entry, the U.S. is pressuring Mexico to deny them any place to stay while they're applying for asylum, where exactly are they supposed to go? Your bold-faced lie that you only care about illegal immigration is being exposed to the entire world by your defense of blatant attempts to restrict legal immigration.

"Earlier in the morning, a group of Central Americans staged a peaceful march to appeal for the U.S. to speed up the asylum claims process, but their demonstration devolved as they neared the crossing with the U.S. and some saw an opportunity to breach the border."

Just like that, everything you just said was proven wrong.

More conservative lies. As I said before you posted this blatant attempt at misleading people, the press has been reporting on the closing of border crossings for almost a week now, and the border rushing incident happened just the other day.

@LJS9502_basic: You miss the part where they were forcing past the guards? How do the guards " take care of it"? They are considerably outnumbered so how do they do that exactly?

Now explain why it's okay to fire into another country and harm bystanders. Because all of your trump apologists keep ignoring that.

How many times were they told there was going to be force if they tried to enter anywhere but an official port of entry? I think at least a dozen, and yet they still tried to cross. Not smart.

Just like the "Syrian refugees" who invaded Europe, they are using women and children as media magnets and human shields. Don't be mistaken, this caravan is mostly unskilled young men.

Like the President says..they are not sending their best

I'm pretty sure these people aren't following Drumpf's moronic tweets on their smartphones

Not really a surprise that this happened given how the migrants have been portrayed in the US media, Guess the only surprise is that they used tear gas and didn't opt for the shoot on sight principle.

@Damedius: lol exactly, how are you guys cool with people trying to tear down the wire and fences to get in. Tear gas is not lethal big whoop, they are lucky to not get hit by rubber bullets.

People need to stop the "but the poor children" thier stupid ass parents are the ones you should be mad at if you care about the children, for dragging them on a trip across all of central america to break the law in another country, that is not the way you handle things, they knew the risks, what do you think they should do? just stand there and wave as they cross??? Would be awesome to break the law in front of police and not be stopped am I right?

Yep, how dare they try to get their children away from murderous drug gangs and government death squads. They need to march right up to those gangs and say "please don't murder me and my kids." Sounds like a viable solution. Way more viable than I don't know, seeking asylum in a safe country.

That's coming next. Drumpf and his neo-Nazi degenerate followers are just itching to kill some brown babies.

If these were blonde white people who spoke English, they would be welcoming with open arms. Because they are brown Spanish speakers they are a zombie horde out to destroy America. Drumpf and his followers are a bunch of a racist scumbags, the whole lot of them.

This so called "invasion" isn't even that many people. A few thousand people coming to a country of 300+ million is a drop in an ocean. Trump was just using this issue to energize his incredibly racist voter base that really hates brown people.

I call it how I see it. Trump's voter base is a bunch of a white supremacists. And we have a lot of them in our country unfortunately. Goes back to the Civil War. We should have executed all confederate soldiers for treason and burnt the south to the ground when the war was over. Not doing that was one of the biggest mistakes in American history. We are still dealing with that racist legacy 150+ years later. Nazi Germany got reduced to rubble and the really bad Nazis got executed. Racism and Nazi stuff is illegal in Germany today. And guess what, almost a century later and no big problem with racism in Germany. The best way to deal with toxic, evil cultures is usually to burn them to the ground and start over. That didn't happen to the confederacy so here we are.

Yep, they go on and on about it being illegal. A misdemeanor is not a serious crime. This is on the level of speeding or jaywalking. But these are a bunch of closet fascists we are talking about. They would probably support people getting brutalized for jaywalking.

They were against these people before they got close to the border. Then they closed the official entry points. And NOT all the asylum seekers were trying to break in but they sure attacked them all with gas. It's an embarrassment that the US is acting like this.

@LJS9502_basic: No you didn't. I asked how is boarder patrol supposed to deal with thousands of people rushing the boarder. You then went AWOL. So I'll ask you again. When you have thousands of people not obeying your orders and forcefully pushing into the country how should they "deal with it" ?

petty theft, prostitution, public intoxication, simple assault, disorderly conduct, trespass, vandalism, reckless driving, discharging a firearm within city limits are all misdemeanors

First time illegal entry is a misdemeanor and you can be deported for it.

Many legal immigrants are deported for misdemeanor.

You can have a criminal record for a misdemeanor. You can go to jail for a misdemeanor

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collateral_consequences_of_criminal_conviction#Collateral_consequences_in_the_United_States

"In the United States, collateral consequences can include loss or restriction of a professional license, ineligibility for public funds including welfare benefits and student loans, loss of voting rights, ineligibility for jury duty, and deportation for immigrants, including those who, while not American citizens, hold permanent resident status."

I like how enforcing laws, a position that was common to liberals 5-10 years ago is now "closet fascism"

@tryit: And a LEGAL immigrant can be deported for many of those.

As is the most common case with you, tryit, I fail to see your point.

As is the most common case with you, tryit, I fail to see your point.

could not remotely give a shit what the deportation rules are on that.

I am just pointing out

1. its a misdemeanor which by definition is 'a minor crime' period end of story. what the punishment should be for violating an minor crime IS A DIFFERENT CONVERSATION

2. a 'law' does make something right. It was illegal to vote as a black man 2. illegal to vote as a woman. 3. was legal to own black slaves

so dont hide behind the 'oh well if its legal it must be a good law that can never be changed/......like....abortion.

people really trying to compare illegally entering a country to jay walking....

Jaywalkers dont get ICE called on them, go cross into mexico illegally or china or any country in the world for that matter. Then tell me it was looked as jaywalking where at the most you get a small fine by mail and continue the rest of your day. You people seem to love demonizing securing the border while offerings zero alternatives besides, "just open the border to everyone, nothing bad will happen"

It makes you sound so foolish, its like they have no reason, just filled with virtue signaling emotion...

there is two sections of law.

1. what is illegal (judgement)

2. what is the punishment for breaking that law. (sentencing)

we are saying number 2 is out of sync with what it should be.

number 1 and number 2 legally speaking ARE SEPARATE

@tryit: Oh, you're just rambling and jumping from topic to topic as usual, and "just pointing out" things that have nothing to do with what anyone is talking about. What do racial laws in Nazi Germany have to do with American immigration? Absolutely nothing. Complete non-sequitur.

I made my reply before your edit, where it looks like you tried to make a completely different point.

Hoping the border with out going through the legal process is ILLEGAL

The punishment is YOU HAVE TO GO BACK and if you do it multiple times your banned from even coming legally because you have proven you don't follow the law.

No one wants to put these people in jail here, they are not citizens of our country, we don't need to pay to lock them up in a country that is not theirs. The best punishment is send them back to their country. However i feel like if they do commit crimes like murder or rape, we should lock them up. A good friend of mine lost his brother to a drunk driver while riding his bike, the guy was from India illegally, he was processed and sent back to his country, which pisses me off, guy should have been locked up.

So let me ask you, what do you think the appropriate punishment is for illegally crossing the border? Whats the appropriate punishment in your view???

and that is fine, I am not addressing that at all whatsoever peroid.

I am saying by LEGAL DEFINITION: it is a 'minor crime' peroid...end of story, how the asshats in charge want to ENFORCE the law is a DIFFERENT question.

its not suddenly not a misdemeanor because your asshole president decides to make the punishment for this specific misdemeanor harsh.

I've got a few problems with this:

1. They're not a threat. Armed? Nope. Violent? The most you can say is they might be a little physical, but they're not trying to start any fights.

2. The US fired weapons into Mexico, where winds carried gas away, harming innocent bystanders. Who is the aggressor now?

3. Why does the US have to be so aggressive? Grab who you can now, don't make a fuss, and pick up the rest later.

4. What's the big deal? Thousands of people come over illegally every year seeking work, what's a few thousand asylum seekers going to harm? These people are not parasites, they are escaping violence, corruption, and depression in their home countries.

I think the biggest problem I have is this: the US should be better than this. I think there's a lot to this that we are not showing that the US is handling well, so saying we are teargassing everyone is a little biased because I know for a fact we have, at the least, taken a lot of these people in to camps and sheltered and fed them. But this is still fracked up.

Violence, corruption and depression do not satisfy the requirements for asylum and that's right from the webpages of our government.

Better than this? Better than stopping a mass influx of people ignoring our sovereignty? Mexico has some answering to do since the government allowed these people to stage their invasion attempt.

No ones getting shot at stop being overly dramatic, its tear gas, a group of thousands of unchecked people are at the border not just 1 guy like in your stupid comparison trying to get through in Canada, thousands of people in mass trying to force themselves into Canada is the correct comparison, if Canada is above using tear gas on a mass group of thousands storming the border good for them, they can bake them muffins and drive them to social services lol

you still haven't answered my question btw, whats your idea of proper punishment for crossing illegally? seriously

Migrant caravan: Mexico to deport group which stormed US border.

An excerpt:

Mexico will deport up to 500 migrants who attempted to storm the US border, according to its interior ministry.

The group were rounded up after trying to cross the border "violently" and "illegally" on Sunday, the ministry said in a statement.

Video footage shows dozens of people - including women and children - running towards the fence that separates the two countries near the city of Tijuana.

They were repelled by tear gas used by US border officers.

Mexico's interior ministry said in a statement that a group of "nearly 500 migrants" had "tried to cross the border in a violent way".

Those identified as having taken part in these "violent events" would be deported immediately, it said.

The ministry added that, "far from helping their objectives", the migrants' actions had violated the legal migration framework and could have led to a "serious incident".

House should pass an immigration bill, try to force the Senate's hand.

neither party seems particularly interested in the hard working of reforming the fucked up system we have now.

it is WAAAY more politically convenient for them to use it as a rallying call to aid themselves in their re-election campaigns.

we never heard middle-ground talk on the issue. all the rhetoric is to the extremes. you're a conservative? well, you're a racist, xenophobic asshole who wants to imprison children. you're a liberal? well, you're a lawless, leeching, bleeding heart dope who wants totally open boarders to allow anyone and everyone to come to the country and suck up all our resources.

we can't even get to the point of talking about the issue like adults because we let the people who scream the loudest dictate the conversation.

Reading through some of the responses, I would like to know what some of you would have seriously wanted the people at the border to do when they attempted to rush the border. Keep in mind they already rushed Mexico's southern border and it was caught on tape.

Also, this isn't the first time this has happened, border guards used tear gas against migrants trying to rush the border in 2013 too.

your one guy, not 5-7 thousand people, big difference. Stop ignoring that major difference

most are coming here to make money under the table to send back to their families in other countries tax free. Making 10 dollars an hour here is like like making 40 dollars an hour there. I've worked with several people here illegally, i worked for a contractor who paid them under the table and i worked for a moving company that paid them under the table, I always got paid more because i spoke English so i was a foreman for the moving company, Its shady shit and the employers don't care because it saves them money not having guys on paper.

I'm sure there are some who are trying to escape cartels and murderers, but i haven't met one yet, most people Ive met that were here illegally, the reason was always money, they don't even want to stay half the time, just work 2 years under the table and then go back to the home country and live fat for a while.

But I'll ask you a third time, whats the "proper punishment" for illegaly crossing in your eyes.

Question: What do i think should be a proper punishment?

My Answer: I think they should be returned.

Do I think that is the best solution to a possible problem? no I do not.

Do I think we should focus on the companies that hire MORE than the people trying to cross? yes i do

Now...my turn..

what will be the damage done if we let them continue to walk into this country, walk right into those 'shady businesses' and start working for that 'under the table money'? and why dont we gas those companies instead?

a massive hord of illegals are coming over here in massive waves to make their way to the shady businesses. here is an idea, let them in, follow them, then we will know who the businesses are.

problem solved

I should also point out I am not a person who holds on to some child like view of punishment, I am not interested in just punishment, I am interested only defining a material problem, and finding a material solution to said problem

Can you morons quit copying an entire reply (and multiple responses within)? It makes navigating these forums a chore on smartphones. Copy a statement you wish to reply to and move on. I guarantee you most people aren’t reading anything you write out of tedium.

Knowingly using incorrect nomenclature calls into questions many other things as well. There's a nice differentiation between pepper spray and tear gas.
