^The rookie Simmons probably made the poor decision on his own, though it wouldn't surprise me if Fredi told him to do it. GamerForcaAccording to TBS, Fredi told him to. Might just be taking the heat off of a young player who made a bad choice.

That's what I would think, but Fredi has made so many decisions like that in the past that I can't be completely sure.
4-2 Cards now, looking like another playoff choke for the Braves.
See, this is why best of 3 would be better. The better team over 162 games in a better division has a bad game against a team 6 games worse in a weaker division, and they'll be out.
The Division winners would be waiting to long and that would negate greatly any advantage gain by pitching their best pitcher on game 1. This WC game is simply a joke.See, this is why best of 3 would be better. I agree completely (and yes, I agreed before the Braves started losing lol). Btw, this game is on Chipper. Huge error plus ground out on the first pitch with two RISP. Kinda fitting, actually.See, this is why best of 3 would be better. That's true. 3 or 4 days off would be pretty bad for the other 3 teams in that league. It does put more emphasis on winning your division, so that part I like. Gotta be a better way than a 1 game playoffSee, this is why best of 3 would be better. That call will cost the Braves this game, a lot worse than the call that gave the Braves 2 runs. Unbelievable. Braves fans throwing stuff onto the field, not good, but I'd probably do it to honestly. Absolutely unbelievable.GamerForcaIt's a terrible call, but the fans are embarrassing themselves.
Right, but the chances of a comeback have been drastically cut down. With Simmons at first, a hit into the gaps or down the lines would've tied it.
Oh, and fwiw, I've never seen the infield fly rule called anywhere near that deep before, at any level of the game. Ever. ^I'm glad you brought up Fredi, because he should've got himself thrown out. I would NOT have left that field without being ejected in that situation. Bobby Cox would've been tossed within seconds.
Braves playing the game under protest. Don't know what that changes..probably nothing.
You can usually only do it on rule misinterpretations. This was a judgement call.
Well, to be fair, the Ross HR never should have happened...can't call time that late in a wind-up.The Braves and the umpires are GIVING this game to the Cards. Pathetic.

I've never seen an infield fly rule called that late or that deep in a part of the field ever. Awful.-Halftime-
I just don't understand WHY the umpire called that to begin with. Usually those called near the base paths or closer, not in SHALLOW left field.

That happens a lot during games, atleast ones I've seen. As for that crap they called in the bottom of the 8th, I have never seen.
 Saw that on Twitter.http://www.sbnation.com/2012/10/5/3462610/mlb-suddenly-understands-the-infield-fly-rule

Tough way to lose. Brutal call. But other than that, Braves have no one to blame but themselves. Left 12 men on I think, 12 hits, 3 errors, and lost by 3 while allowing 4 unearned runs. Chipper's error was the worst.
lmao the Cardinals are popping champagne? What's next, the Heat popping champagne because they beat the Knicks? JML897Game isn't even official yet lol.
But they didn't celebrate clinching the 5th seed cause they hadn't made the playoffs to that point. So this is their form of it.
The call aside, that's the reason a 1 game playoff is completely ridiculous in baseball. A few mistakes by the Braves was all it took for them to get knocked out despite outhitting the Cards by double. The more deserving team (again, despite the call) moved on, but the better team didn't because of ONE game. Oh, and one last thing about the fans. Embarrassing, perhaps, but it's a "good" thing this happened in Atlanta because the fans are typically so mild. Imagine this situation in Philly or New York.Tough way to lose. Brutal call.
