Well Im glad the Tigers are going to lose. But as I mentioned before in this thread, the NFL and MLB proves the regular season doesnt matter more in those leagues compared to the NBA. To win the world series or superbowl, just get hot late in the season, sneak in the playoffs and win it all. Right now in the NFL, the Texans(AFC) and Falcons(NFC) are the best teams in their conference. There is a 90% chance they will lose the Divsional round to a wild card team.PSP107

You are actually trying to say the NBA regular season matters more? 16 of the 30 teams in the NBA go to the playoffs... That's over half!!! How can their regular season mean more? This is probably the worst example I've ever seen in regards to trying to prove a point...

[QUOTE="X360PS3AMD05"]So who owns the Giants and where was he? Does Melky get a ring? How funny that Mr. Tootblan is the WS clinching run and gets ANOTHER ring. Hopefully the Panda can really lose some weight now, but who knows with a playoff bonus. Hunter Pence stop driving around on a motorized whatever that is and get a bicycle man! Bottle rockets, lol grow up Gnat fans!! What are you 10 years old?? Real men have canister artillery shells and salutes from Tijuana! Can't wait for the idea of some idiot trying to bring down a street light and he just falls to the ground. All we can hope is the players who overachieved land big contracts that end up biting Sabean in the ass. They better send Colletti a ring so he can cry again..................BAAAHH This is all McCourt's fault! No this is James Loneys fault!! Ahhhhhhhhhh idk anymore........ Here we Go!! http://www.inquisitr.com/379317/san-francisco-riots-live-blogging-photos-from-the-chaos/
That was when you could win 110 games and not get into the post season. It was bad for revenue and bad for interest in the sport.TheWalkingGhost
About that one Giants fan, i actually know a Giants fan who said the year they won a ton of games and came one short of Atlanta that he was cool with it. They didn't DESERVE to be in the postseason, he didn't want a weener wild card. so there! And don't bring the NFL into this, the NFL has their act together and play so few games that 12 team playoffs are fine. Best of 9 actually existed in baseball in case you didn't know. You would actually need to have a best of 23 series to really find out who the best team is mathematically. "If the Yankees can't break out of a slump in a 7 game series" whoever said that, i'm sure tons of teams have bad 7 game stretches, actually you only need 3 or 4 games and you will pretty much lose the series. The fact is they have a 162 game body of work that it shouldn't be necessary for them to be defeating an 88 win Tigers team. I said the A's and Yanks would probably play in the ALCS so the A's probably would have played in this WS. Anyone out there agree the A's or even the O's would have put up a better fight than these Tigers?? Yah thought so!

The big problem with that is what if a team does poorly for the first half of the season and then they're the best team in baseball for the second half. They don't have the best record, but in the second half of the season they're playing well beyond every other team. You're saying they shouldn't get into the playoffs just because they're not 1st or 2nd in their league? Then you're knowingly leaving out the best team just because of a mediocre first half. At that point, the World Series isn't to find out who he best team is, just the team that was the most consistent over the course of a year. The current system works because it allows for error like that.

I mean the fact the best team in the NBA during the regular season actually wins it all depsite having to go through more teams. The point is, do not put to much stock in the MLB/NFL regular season. Its funny you metioned 16 NBA teams make the playoffs, but if Baseball adapts more teams, than the Angels and Rays will get a chance to compete in the playoffs. lol, last I check both the Angels and Rays had better records than the Tigers. Kind of odd the Orioles and Rangers, who had better records than the Tigers, had to play a 1 game wild card game. lol.

Mike Redmond is the new Marlins manager.

He's a good guy, so I hope he enjoys his 1-year vacation in Miami. Loria will probably fire him after the season once he finds out Redmond doesn't like the homerun sculpture in CF.

Lots of success with the Blue Jays minor league system the last 2 years. 155-115, 2 playoff berths, one with Lansing of Low A and one with Dunedin of the FSL, really well respected. Many thought he was being groomed for a job with the Jays eventually. I hope he does really well, and think he will.

I like him, too. He's a good guy and was a solid player for the Marlins back in the day. I think he's the right guy for the job, but I'm worried Loria will go psycho as usual and fire him after 1-2 years.

Ya, I read that Marlins managerial jobs are more like interim jobs, never a sure thing. Hope it all works out for him. Now for my team to hire someone. And they want experience and I don't know who that could be.

Loria is an idiot, how many good managers has that tubby pile of goo fired already? Come on, Ozzie did some dumb stuff but anyone that thinks the team imploding was all his fault is stupid. Loria is the one that went out and signed all these players, have some accountability asshat.

It's never going to happen. As long as Loria is here, we will never have any stability as a franchise. He better make Stanton a Marlin for life or the already fragile fanbase is going to explode.

As for the managers, I don't think Fredi Gonzalez, Girardi, or Guillen are excellent by any means, but having a manager stick around and grow with the younger players probably would have equaled some success.

You have to give your managers at least three years, in any sport. Look at the Pittsburgh Steelers. Since 1969, they have had three head coaches. Three. You can't change head coaches or managers like underwear, you have to give them a fair shot.

The World Baseball Classic is next spring. Apparently, it will only be available on the MLB Network, which can't even be accessed in roughly half of the homes in the country. Bud wants the WBC to be his lasting legacy. How's that supposed to happen if nobody can watch it?

Or did he somehow fool himself into thinking the WBC tournament would be a big enough draw to persuade more people into purchasing the MLB Network package?

I don't like WBC, it messes up the player routine for spring training and players try too hard while not in mid season shape because of the nationalistic aspect. As for the MLB Network, of all the 4 major league channels MLB Network is carried by more providers than any other so I can't blame Bud for trying to growth the product with exclusive WBC coverage on its network.

Hechavaria is really, really good. Only guy I'll miss. The single A pitcher you got is also quite good, but of the "Big 3" we have in Lansing, he's the worst. But really, that's not saying much..it's only cause he's furthest away. I'm very confused why they didn't demand Gose, who is much closer the the bigs than Marisnick, and D'Arneud or Arencibia... And Escobar can get lost...will not miss him in the slightest.

Because it was a pure salary dump. Loria doesn't care about the return of players, only the return he gets in revenue sharing. He's a cancer to baseball and has essentially ruined baseball in Miami. No FA will want to sign here, none of our young players will want to sign extensions. They pretty much traded Stanton in this deal as well. He'll never sign an extension here. First Cabrera, now Stanton. Despicable.

I really hope Bud Selig steps in and demands Loria remove himself from the Marlins organization. He's lied to the taxpayers of Miami, the fans, the players, Selig, and he continues to get away with it.

I feel ya man. He completely lied to Montreal about the Expos and basically abandoned them till they left. He doesn't care, I agree. All ball fans in Canada hates him, and I'm sure Miami does as well. He;s just up to his old tricks. New everything last year, and now this firesale...

How was Loria allowed to buy a second team after what he did to the Marlins anyway? Especially when you consider Mark Cuban has been stiff-armed twice in his pursuit to buy his first.

Loria has a plan. Make as much money as possible while keeping payroll as low as possible. He throws in these fluke years to keep people thinking he wants to win and succeed. If the young players start competing, he'll spend for a year or two to keep up this perception of wanting to win. After 2-3 years he unloads, collects his revenue sharing, and then repeats the process.

He got his stadium with taxpayer money, and now he gets to sit back in his chair and give a collective middle finger to South Florida and the entire baseball world.

Wasn't Escobar the guy who was busted with the anti-gay slur on his eye black? Adding insult to injury, but maybe they thought "hey he's a player of color so maybe he'll go over well here" Stephen A was calling the guy who wanted Bud to get involved an idiot, ridiculous for even suggesting it  Man i was only watching that cause the recording of the US soccer game went over..........terrible, first take seems like the WWE now and did i mention that the day after the World SEries i recorded it and they didn't even talk about the WS! And yah the fire sale should only be after winning it all or after being over the luxury tax for 4 straight years, but the Marlins do have 2 championships going back 15 years so we shouldn't feel too sorry for um and a new ballpark! One of the coolest fan contests ever. The Brewers are inviting fans to design an alternate uniform. The winner gets a trip to Phoenix to see the team play a Spring Training game in the new uniforms. EVERY team should do something like that.

With the Hanson for Walden trade, the Braves might have an extremely good bullpen next year. O'Flarety, Walden, Venters, and Kimbrel being the main guys most likely.

I would feel more comfortable keeping Hanson if he wasn't a Boras client, wouldn't mind not giving up on him if it wouldn't cost a ton. But as it is........

I have a sneaky feeling Wren is also up to something clearing the $4 Mill owed to Hanson

With the Hanson for Walden trade, the Braves might have an extremely good bullpen next year. O'Flarety, Walden, Venters, and Kimbrel being the main guys most likely.

It basically was troubled goods for troubled goods. Hanson has seen his velocity drop quite a bit and his shoulder is a red flag. With that said Walden has seen a velocity drop too and has had command issues. For Wren, Hanson's value was low and the Angels were desperate for starting pitching. As a Braves fan and while bummed Hanson is gone I like how Wren was able to get a servicable player in return.

Right, but this trade frees up around 3.5 M as I think Walden is at the league minimum. Also, he is not expected to be the closer which might help him. He might not be the primary 8th inning guy. The way it could work out, Avilan 6th inning, mixture of EOF, Venters, and Walden for 7th and 8th innings, then the Kimbrel in the 9th. If Walden plays like he did as a rookie, Braves might have the best pen in the majors. Assuming Venters also returns to pre-2012 stats.

But perhaps, I am giving Walden a little too much credit. Walden is entering his third year, and last year could have just been the sophmore slump.
