i think the story was great, it was just a bit more comp;ex than the othersI like all the FF games I have(which I only have four), but I guess my least favorite is FFXII because the story wasn't great.

FFVII DoC was in love with it;s own story. It had pointless frickin cut scenes in the middle of boss fights. The graphics in game were sub par, especiually for a Square game. There were only 3 guns. The game was easy. CAlling the enemies dumb as rocks would be insulting the intelligence of rocks. There was no variety in enemies at all. The level design suffered copy and paste syndrom. DoC was justr a bad...bad...aweful...terrible game. IT'S A SHOOTER WITHOUT A SHOT GUN! WHAT THE HELL! HOW CAN YOU NOT HAVE A SHOT GUN?
I don;t get why so many damn peole dog on FFXII. IT was brilliant. Great writing. Excellent directing. Fantastic dialog. Dark and complex storyline overflowing with plot twists. A series of excellent characters. Amazing graphics. A massive world that was alot of fun to explore. It didn';t feel linear like FFX did. It actually put some of the challenge back in the game. The gambit system was so flexible that you could have just as much or just as little control over hte action as you wanted. It didn';t firce you to use it. Brilliant musical score. No random battles. Seriously./ What's not to like about that game. It is hte first FF to ever do every siungle thing right

Yeah that what I hate the most. It really slow the pace. And most enemies were pretty stupid. The story however was interesting and you get to play as Vincent.:P But it still wasn't that good. I thought the third gun you get was a Shotgun.
I hate FFVIII the most. It's long and crappy. FFVII DoC is short and crapy. X02 is very bleh as well but come on. IT has to be better than FFVII. I didn't hate it;s battle system. I just didn;t like anything elsefs_metal
FF8 was a great game, with great characters and a very unique bttle system. (i mean chracter development or whatever you wanna call it).
I personally felt FFXII lacked story. It didn't interest me at all.
I think so far the first half of FFXII: RW has got more story and emotion than the whole of FFXII all together! XD
the story is good i thought, did yu know it has twice the dialogue as ffx?I personally felt FFXII lacked story. It didn't interest me at all.

SPOILER i can understand why you think that about FFXII RW, im at the bit when balthier fights them and the story is really good

It was terrible. IT wasn;t evenm frickin Final FantasyTo even suggest that FFXII lacks story is laughable. I mean did you even pay attention? It has the darkest and the second most complex story in FF history. It was filled with emotion tooI personally felt FFXII lacked story. It didn't interest me at all.

I totally agree that RW has more story than the original XII.. kinda scary.
I really enjoyed RW though, good DS game :)

Oh, I payed attention alright. Perhaps there was story in there somewhere (I honestly didn't think there was), but if there was it must have been so dull that it didn't interest me at all.
Mystic Quest is by far the worst FF game I've played. It was painfully easy and its cast of characters had about as much depth as a piece of rice paper. Of the numbered titles, FFII takes my number one spot for worst game. It seemed as if the game wanted you to spend the vast majority of your time level grinding so your party wouldn't die at every encounter. Leveling magic became particularly annoying, especially spells like Flare and Ultima, which do about as much damage as any other spell unless for some unholy reason you actually decided to max them out to level 17. I will give FFII credit for giving me at least one good laugh. It's hard not to laugh at a line like:
"Guy speak Beaver!"
FFXII had a hell fo alot of story dudefs_metal
of course it had story, it just wasn't centered around the characters as much, which is why a lot of people didn't think it was as good.
i've heard a lot of bad things about mystic quest, by the sounds of it, i'm glad i've never payed it :?
I thought FFXII WAS centred around Ashe rather than Vaan.
I also agree with you on Penelo. She did next to nothing in FFXII.
fs_metal: You'll never convince me FFXII had a good story. But then I think we all look for different things in our RPG stories. For me, for what ever reason, FFXII didn't have it. But it did for you, which is great.
I was also quite disappointed in FFXII's story. It didn't have the flair in had in previous titlles but they were glimpses on it throughout the game, I think it just wasn't consistent enough. Throughout the game there were times where it got really interesting, then just plain boring - I suppose we all did expect something big, but I think it was more of the game length that was big, and not the revolved story plot. The character development was there at parts, but seemed to only be there at small points and never shown again. Ashe, Baltheir, Fran and Basch all had moments but I think travelling about the place too much degraded the games story i think. Still! It was very fun with the new battle system and overall high quality :)

I definitely agree with the portion of your analysis which I have placed in bold. The amount of story versus gameplay time seemed lacking. The biggest problem for me, however, wasn't so much the length, but the content. I found there to be almost no character development, although new things were happening and the characters were "learning" they didn't seem to develop new personality traits or open up to the audience. I found, as many others here have voiced, that it was almost impossible to become "attached" to these characters because they seemed so general and static.
FFXII wasn't character centered at all. It had no main character. IT was event driven and fantasticI thought FFXII WAS centred around Ashe rather than Vaan.

TECHNically a meain character in a game, is the one you play as outside of the battles.
My fave character in it was basch
