and the PS3 is getting it's own DLC according to R* 'of similar scale to the 360 content' but unique to the platform :)
the 360 dlc is exclusive nice try
Yes it is exclusive, but do you really believe that the PS3 won't get any DLC of it own down the road.
besides noone knows what the DLC is or how big it is for both consoles. It could be extra missions for both platforms or maybe missions or shops or extra vehicles etc.
Until then its just speculation
microsoft paid alot of money for the exclusive dlc i doubt its going to be just some extra missions or what not which i also believe will come to the ps3, i think if its as big as they say 10 hours i believe then it could be a shivering isle type dlc
The $50mill isn't a bribe for exclusivity, in fact, it's just a loan of sorts. Basically, Ms gave $50million to R* way in advance of the DLC even being conceived fully because they are confident R* will make themselves $50million in revenue from said DLC. So, to clarify, MS is saying to R* "we are so confident you will generate $50mill revenue from the DLC that we are giving it to you in advance from our own pocket and will take it back from revenues when the DLC is released" what this means is, including the 30% cut that MS takes for hosting DLCs on their servers and distributing them, the DLC must generate $70mill for things to be all sweet between MS and R*. If the DLC does not generate the $70mill, R* must pay them back a certain portion of the $50mill they gave originally.
To summarise, the $50mill deal is more like, MS will loan R* $50mill far in advance of R* making that money fromt he DLC and, in return, the 2 episode packs will remain exclusive, whether that is time exclusive, or permenant exclusive. There are a lot of intracies to the contract, but this is the basic gist of it.
From a personal opinion standpoint, I think PS3 will get its own exclusive DLC content in the future, not for a while though, but it will be similar in size to what the Xbox 360 will get. I take this because, the way things are looking, the Xbox 360 and PS3 will have a somewhat equally sized GTAIV player base. From this, I find it hard to belive that R* would only cash in on half of their audience.

it is minimal based on all the video we've seen - those 2 animated gifs from Neogaf are from the game running off a 360 HDD / which he claims is a devkit. the game is not designed to stream from the slower 360 HDD. i mean if it was that bad it would've been noticeable in the video reviews of the 360 version.

"While doing some research into the DLC I came across this article.
"Next-Gen contacted Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter, who further explained the deal. "What Microsoft did was pay a $50 million advance," he said, much in the same way a big-name author receives a payment in advance of his or her next book.
In other words, Microsoft is confident that Take-Two's portion of the revenue generated by GTA IV content downloads will surpass the $50 million advance paid.
"Microsoft basically said that it's happy to pay [Take-Two] in advance $50 million in revenue that [Take-Two] is going to receive from GTA IV downloads," he said.
Microsoft takes about a 30 percent cut from Xbox Live Marketplace content sales, according to Pachter.
Taking that 70/30 split (publisher/Microsoft) and the $50 million advance into account, Microsoft is apparently confident that GTA IV download revenues over Xbox Live will be at least $70 million.
If revenues don't meet that figure, Take-Two will have to return some of the advance, according to Pachter. But he said that there's no reason to believe Take-Two would actually miss that revenue target."
If this is true, then MS did not pay $50 mil for the two episodes but rather advanced T2 the projected earnings from the DLC in exchange for the exclusivity deal. The nature of the deal is still unknown, but given this info and Rockstars history for exclusivity, it seems possible that once the advance is re-payed the episodes may become available for all platforms. Unfortunately, if this is true it might also indicate the size of the DLC is more along the lines of side missions as opposed to additional land area."

This is the article I was reffering to in my post. And, opinions can be counted as old, like a R* rep saying something. This is analysis on a contract which won't be outdated since the contract is still true. The fact is, R* don't profit a massive amount from the $50mil, it just massively improves their cashflow which can be used to fund projects, ie. the $50mill downpayment may have helped fund the crating of the DLC or even development of GTAIV itself.

Side missions take up a huge amount of time if you think about it. I mean, it took so long to complete all the ambulance, fire, police and taxi missions. I don't think the DLC will be all side-missions, but I wouldn't be surprised if the a good amount of the 10 hours was in side-misions. And this brings up a good point. How do you clarify 10 hours in DLC size? With regular linear games, 10 hours is just gameplay, with GTA, due to the open world nature, 10 hours could be anything. You could ****fy each mission at an hour in itself due to the sheer number of ways you could go about completing that mission.
