System Wars valid right? I want 10 good reasons, and dont give us crap like "we can run windows" ... yea we can run OS X aswell, defeats the purpose of buying a more expensive machine right?

Some people find using OS X to be a better experience than using Windows.

the only REAL advantage macs have over pc's generally speaking is that they are more stable..... that being said, my last 2 pc's have been incredibly stable as i know how to keep them clean and updated properly so i haven't really had any problems (worst thing to happen on my old pc was a bsod about once a year) so i can't justify spending 2x the amount just because of the name brand.

They're made of sturdy materials. That's about the only good thing I can think of after owning an iBook for about 5 years. The case felt sturdy and really hard like it could withstand a good hit. Of course, there's no stopping you from buying the equivalent-strength materials for a PC, but it seems forced on you with a Mac.

1. They can match them with your purse 2. They are trendy 3. Owning one infers that you aren't a fat geek 4. They make lattes taste better 5. You can buy them at the mall 6. They give me false impression that I am safe from the dangers of the Internet 7. Steve Jobs ... bah I'm done...

Don't think this is system wars worthy but I'll give it a shot. 1) Reliability - This is my top reason. I have had my computer on doing general office work, Virtualization, Basic Web browsing and programming for 3 months straight. Only have to reboot for a system update. 2) Compatibility - Works seamlessly with my iPhone, iPod, Windows Servers, Exchange Servers, Apple TV. 3) Hardware - I have a mac pro at work. It's has 2 quad core xeon cpu's with 12 GB of ram. It's hard to find something like this for pc unless you want to build it yourself. 4) Virtualization - Yes windows can do it too but it's more technical than that. Mac is built on unix which faster and more stable than windows. Therefore my virtualization projects run better on a mac. And it's not just windows, it's linux and os x server. 5) ilife - a free package of web designing, music creating and photo editing software that comes ready to go. 6) One version of the OS. No need to choose which features you want or not. It all comes standard. I can't think of any more at the moment. A lot is hard to describe. You have to use one to see. Once you do you'd be speechless like the rest of us.

And theres your winner. Ding Ding Ding. As long as you know how to keep your computer clean and running fresh you should not have any problems other than the occasional mishaps. Ive been building computer for quite some time now and the computers I have built have been all very sound and very little to any problems. Most of my friends that have macs have had a lot hardware problems. Not me sir. I will never buy a mac because they are overpriced and a PC can do the same exact things for a lot less.

except for the part that to get a computer as powerful as mine, you would have to pay about 3 times as much? thats not worth a few of those paltry upgrades you mentioned

I really can't believe Macs are only like 9%-12% of the market share. I'm in my third year of college and I've met more people with Macs than with PC's. Out of the 6 roommates I've had 4 have had Macs. I guess it's just that college students are the ones who buy Macs the most.

I saw that coming. To build a PC comparable to the Mac Pro You'd actually spend about the same or more. That's using cheaper products. If you don't need 2 cpu's then get another computer.

not meaning to knock against macs zero, but the price is way more than a pc would cost unless you go to the extremes. their cheap mac pro is worse than my comp, and i spent under 1000 total on mine (including monitor), and theres for a worse computer overall is 2500. thats a huge difference, is all im saying.

No, you woulden't. Price is the one thing Mac users can never argue against, Apple itself cried to Microsoft to change its Ads with the Laptop Hunters because they know they can't compete when it comes to wanting to pay a realistic price for a machine.

Ignorance is the only thing that lets someone get a virus, I have not had a Virus in about 5 years, and the ones I had before that, I was able to remove, one time about 10 years ago I had a virus that made me have to backup what I could and save my files, but I'm pretty sure I could have fixed it if I had the know how, I haven't had my machine freeze randomly, BSOD randomly, or any of those other things that apparently are day to day occurrences on a PC.

I own a Mac and I can say without a doubt that aside from gaming, OSX is the best Operating System on the planet. No ifs ands or buts about it. Sorry MS fanboys but Windows truly is garbage for the general consumer. Apple charges a premium for their computers because their the only ones that sell computers with OSX. Aside from OSX, their notebooks have a much better build quality and are far more aesthetically pleasing. Apple makes the best notebooks, period.

I know what you mean. But what I do is build one that's comparable. Of course Pc's will always be cheaper than macs but you're not just paying for the hardware. You're also paying for the OS and the ability to run and install multple OS's not made by apple.

You can install OSX on a normal PC. Apple simply doesn't allow distributors to do it.

Yes but you have to have the right hardware and Bios to do it. and even then it's buggy as hell.

Ignorance is bliss it does not change the fact there is much less virus targeting Apple computers than PC. Though still giving an advantage to Apple computers. Now as far as I haven't had my machine freeze randomly. On my PC I have had at least 5 blue screens of death within the last 6 months. Luckily each time my PC came back.

....it sucks that you have to find OSX equivalents? isnt this like saying it sucks to have to find the windows versions of divx, quicktime etc when you buy a PC? Any website you go to to download software....it automatically installs the OSX version when you click download now, not the Windows version.....so this searching for OSX software is pretty irrelevant. Secondly, I said OSX stinks for games, but that doesnt mean I still couldnt play PC games on My Macbook Pro. In fact, I have the developer build of Windows 7 installed on my MacBook right now and switch over to W7 in a matter 30 seconds when I feel like playing a PC game.....then when I'm done playing I can rest assured that when I reboot my computer again, the beautiful OSX returns. :)

P.S. Windows 7 is Vista without the headaches. Its not the second coming of god like some Windows fanboys make it out to be.

Simple,

Windows is built on garbage.

Mac OS is built on Unix like Linux.

Linux is better, but if you want a simple and easy user interface than Mac is the way to go.

A lot of people here don't own a Mac so they won't be able to know the difference. They think it's Windows with a different look. You would have to own one for a few months to tell. Less bugs, less viruses, less crashes. I left my Mac on once for a full month without restarting and never got any errors. I can't go a week without having to restart a Vista machine that is constantly being used.

Better user interface. Better security.

WOW! I would have said MS. That's pretty twisted. Where has apple lied?

Every PC has 10,000,000 viruses on it at all times, PCs never work, they crash non-stop, and Macs are affordable.

They never said PC's never work, they just said PC's never work...as good as a Mac.

The challenge is simple, 10 worthwhile things that make a MAC better than a PC, I'm curious because random friends of mine seem to be buying macs, whenever you ask "why" they have absolutely no come backs ever, its laughable.

System Wars valid right? I want 10 good reasons, and dont give us crap like "we can run windows" ... yea we can run OS X aswell, defeats the purpose of buying a more expensive machine right?

Zero_epyon

Ok, bare in mind here that that im talking about normal people/students who dont do heavy work on computers or the print industry. so im gonna throw my thoughts on your points in here: 1) I could say the same about PCs in my case, I had macs in college for 2 years which were a nightmare, this is more of a personal experiance point and quite frankly to me is just a circumstantial excuse tbh. 2) Compatibility - Windows/itunes works perfectly with my iphone and my mates Ipod, windows servers never tried the other 2. 3) What line of work are you? this is valid to the print/design industrys no doubt, and is acceptable, however itsnot a valid point for the typical consumor that deems macs superior to PCs. 4) Ok, sounds good. My friends however cannot rely on this. 5) I would rather be working with the best software, which is often handed down free by uni/college or *other means*(not promoting) compared with a3 package. 6) HArdly a difficult choice.

for myself I think what makes a Mac a good system to have is the fact it seems that it was built for what I do which is Video and Audio editing. I haven't had a chance to use Photoshop on it however if I had a choice an Apple with Final Cut Pro, Motion and Garage Band or an PC with Vista Adobe Premiere, After Effects and AuditionI would easily take the Apple every day of every year.

Exageration. Stop putting words in their moves. PC's get virus more than macs since PC's make up 89% of the market. PC's work fine. Windows is the problem. And since Microsoft has a near monopoly, chances are you're running windows on your PC. Macs come in different flavors and are affordable based on what you get.

I disagree completely as will many others, for the basic user both OSX and XP and vista/win7 are pretty much the same deal just one is as astandard more visually apealing (mac os x) ... MAc charges premium for brand... nothing else, you can get OSX on a second HDD partition on a PC, takes alittle effort, but its very easy to those with a little knowledge. And no, again disagree 100%, my ACER ASPIRE 6920G looks better and is better build quality than any Mac Book ive come across, most of which are just that tacky bland white/metal clean look with ridiculously spaced keys and far too much pointless free surface space.

my LED Backlit, Glass multitouch trackpad, aluminum notebook with backlit keyboard and a 7-hour battery will trump your ACER in build, I assure you. and in regards to the "spaced out keys on the keyboard" use it for more than two seconds and you will see it is far more comfortable. Nobody is foolish enough to challenge the build of a Mac. They use premium materials.

I'm an IT manager. I use virtualization to test software and run our system backbone on. Of course Macs won't appeal to everyone. Same can be said about PC's. I think there's a blurry line when people compare PC's to Macs. Are we comparing Mac OS X to Windows or the hardware between the two? I think that's why this argument will last forever.

Circumsantial computer use... an invalid point, Ive had to use them for 2 years in college, they were buggy, crashed alot, I had to rely on my PC at home todo anything worthwhile or indepth, do I go around spreading crap that "MACS Crash more often, have more bugs and cant do simple things?" no ... because like the reverse situation its a load of crap.

It really sucks how you can install just about any software without having to hunt down a OSX equivalent, and this being System Wars, gaming is a very important part of owning a PC, but if you want to ignore a very big part of PCs, fine, I just don't see how Windows is so bad for the general consumer, especially with Windows 7 being so awesome, nothing is wrong with XP either though, Vista is vastly overhated too, I think those Apple commercials actually convince people of some very half-truths.

....it sucks that you have to find OSX equivalents? isnt this like saying it sucks to have to find the windows versions of divx, quicktime etc when you buy a PC?

COD4 runs on mac. Same as warcraft. It's not booming but it's on its way!

Absolutely. Macs will get more games as the years progress now....The Mac generation is just beginning to blossom, you can see where the trend is going with current college students
