$199 for an HD gaming console? Can it be true?

Completely untrue. I have 2 systems, A core & a premium and I've played the same games on both with no difference whatsoever with the exception of Oblivion, and thats an extremely minor improvement in their poor streaming implementation. GTAIV streams fine right off the DVD.

Your response fails because no current game on the 360 requires you to install it on the hardrive in order to play. The same game running on a 360 with or without a hardrive has the same load times.

It won't be that low anytime soon because you aren't only paying for a videgame console, you are paying for a Bluray player. Don't get me wrong, I love the 360, but instead of making this HDD free system 199, they should have discontinued it. Instead they decide to discontinue the 20gb system. The 20Gb system should be the minimum system with the 199 price tag and keep the 60gb 299 and the elite 120gb 399.

Don't get me wrong, I would not CHOOSE the 199 model but some with no internet no desire to play games online, or dl music video or movies or shows, the 199 model is perfect.

a HD is not necessary at all. Anyone who says otherwise really doesn't know what they are talking about. Sure it is needed for some things, like DLC and stuff. But for basic playing online and saving games it's not needed.diped

MGS4 and other ps3 exclusives say otherwise that bluray is not needed and even if it isnt its still an awesome feature to have, The online is great and gets the job done, and wifi just makes everything easier i mean, running a cable through my house all the way upstairs to downstairs i dont call over rated, and alot of other people are in the same situation as me with their set up. So whatever the ps3 is a great value no matter how much people try to bash it

But all that matters is that price. I'm pretty sure people bought a Wii because it was the cheapest out of the three and had motion controls. Now since the 360 is the lowest starting price console, all they need to focus on is having something for the casual market. And since they already have hardcores satisfied, they could spend all the time, energy, and effort to cater for casuals easily. I can't say the same for the other HD console.

There's a lot of 'value' in a Hyundai Genesis, but not everyone needs to spend $40k on a car when they don't need/want $20k worth of the features.
