[QUOTE="Zoso-8"]You still get more for your money with a $400 PS3. Free online, WiFi, rechargeable controller, 80GB HD, the best bluray player on the market...and most importantly doesn't need to be sent in for repairs every 3 months. Launch 360 users must be getting nervous, doesn't the warranty run out soon?WillieBeamish

Thats one of the more desperate arguments I've seen in this thread.

How so, because it differs from your opinion? I have both systems, and the above things I listed were actually the reasons I broke down and bought a PS3.

It's pretty interesting how some people likes to bring up what you "need" to add by saying things like "oh if you add a hard drive and wifi and a blu ray player, it'll cost more". But all that matters is that price. I'm pretty sure people bought a Wii because it was the cheapest out of the three and had motion controls. Now since the 360 is the lowest starting price console, all they need to focus on is having something for the casual market. And since they already have hardcores satisfied, they could spend all the time, energy, and effort to cater for casuals easily. I can't say the same for the other HD console.

Zoso-8

The point I think we're trying to make is, who the hell would actually buy the arcade? You might as well just say $299 for an HD gaming console. Most 360 gamers (not lemmings) would agree with me.

Not everyone are teh hardk0re like you.

The arcade has a different target audience but people act as if you cannot add a hard drive anytime you like. You can pay $200 now and later add a hard drive or some people like me who know how to get a deal purchased an arcade and added a used hard drive for next to nothing. The arcade 360 will be a hot item this holiday season.

The $199 price would just attract more consumers to the Xbox 360. And these potential buyers who's interested will most likely get the $299 HD console because it's still cheaper than the other HD video gaming console. $199 just has a nice ring to it that will get people interested.

The only reason I use my harddrive is to download game demos, other than that it's useless to me. I don't see why so many people are crying about it. 512MB is easily enough for all your gaming needs.

[QUOTE="Jamex1987"]Why would i pay $400 for a PS3 for stuff i don't care about?WillieBeamish

then dont, im not forcing you to, im just saying to most its worth the purchase.

There's a lot of 'value' in a Hyundai Genesis, but not everyone needs to spend $40k on a car when they don't need/want $20k worth of the features.

Its not that much more money... for things that even if you dont want them arent useless.

For me the ps3 is completely worth the money..and alot of people will agree so whatever

It's a great purchase for some. For me, it is not worth it and I'm going to end up wanting a better equipped system if I buy one.

I bought a Premium and then an Elite. With that price it's more likely people can actually buy more than one.

Again with the really weak arguments. But I'll still answer your question if it makes you feel better. No, I don't find having the potential to add on something you don't need for gaming purposes to the Xbox 360 Arcade to be particularly ironic.

Since this topic has basically turned into PS3vs360 I would like to state my point of view.

I own both and the PS3s nice and all, comes with features I'll probably never use other than maybe rarely playing blueray movies. If you ask me it's overpriced even if you get a whole bunch a feature you'll never use. At $199 I can't complain when you get a system just for gaming. It's a steal at that price point.

I have two systems because I use one as an HD media center extender (the core system) in my family room, and then I have the premium system downstairs connected to my home theater.

When we have friends over, I'll bring guitar hero upstairs and we'll play in the family room.

So the Xbox is a next gen console because it had a HDD.

So we agree the Wii is crap.

The reason it's ironic is because the thread title states $199 but we all know any gamer that buys this will end up having to get an HDD, thus making the $199 price not really true. With game saves, DLC, great downloadable games like Braid, GW2, and Castle Crashers, how could you not get one? This is only a desperate attempt by MS to reach out to the casuals, which Nintendo already won over a year ago :|.

No. I don't want to do anything but play my games I buy on a disk. I go into it knowing I don't want to take advantage of any other options the 360 offers.

I think the reason that this is so hard for many of us here in SW to understand is because we would never buy a 360 Arcade, but we are not the target audience. The little kids and families that want to play Banjo, You're in the Movies, and Scene it are the ones that are going to buy this 199 console not the real gamers like us. But that is why this console exists, for those that aren't going to be buying every map pack for Halo and playing gears til 1AM on live, it is for the casuals, for the gamers like us, we can buy the Pro or the Elite, that's what those are for.

It makes you wonder how long will it take for the other HD gaming console to have the same price. Never.

Il_Exile_lI

It won't be that low anytime soon because you aren't only paying for a videgame console, you are paying for a Bluray player. Don't get me wrong, I love the 360, but instead of making this HDD free system 199, they should have discontinued it. Instead they decide to discontinue the 20gb system. The 20Gb system should be the minimum system with the 199 price tag and keep the 60gb 299 and the elite 120gb 399.

I agree on the 20 gig idea. So many friends who are not as enthusiastic about gaming as myself still play on their PS2. These guys have all expressed an interst in finally buying a next gen console. Guess why......they still save games on a memory card and only play games when friends get together. All four of my buddies are getting the 360 now that it's $200. Some people play games as a social, as in same room social, thing.

Its an eye catcher, but I dunno, its seem like bait and hook more than anything. I guess some will use it, but the majority would go $299.

What about the PS2?

For $199 you are getting:

Xbox 360 Arcade Console
Wireless Controller
Memory Card
Potential RROD

And that's all it takes to stop me from getting one.

The new 360's are much better in reliability and the new one's made this month use the new chipset and 65nm GPU that is going to solve most of the RROD problems.

Wait there are people still out there that believe the Wii is selling due to it's price?! Come on now the Wii sales because it's reach that pop culture status...the things gonna sale no matter what.

wiis market is similiar to the ps2 market. Majority consisting for new gamers(kids), non gamers(before they got the wii) and some nintendians(lol). You can't deny that the price helps.

That would make the Wii a fad then and those things end.

[QUOTE="karasill"]No hard drive = fail. Some games benifit greatly with the hard drive when it comes to loading times and even framerates to a lesser extent. It may be cheaper then the Wii but for $199 you're getting a gimped Xbox 360 that shouldn't have existed in the first place.-Ninja_Dog-

Does the Wii have a HDD?

Is it a failure.

What about the PS2?

The ps2 is last gen what do you expect? As for the wii...the hardware is pretty much last gen as well(except for the controllers)

Everything will break down. Even PS3 and Wii. If you don't want to buy something that will eventually break down, there aren't many things for you to buy. I've heard that the failure rates for new chipsets are somewhere around 5 %, which is quite normal for electronical hardware.

Actually the ps3 and wii don't break down, the ps3 has a failure rate of around 1% and you can play one until your eyes start bleeding cuz it won't break down :P idk about the wii's failure rate :)
