2008 sales: PS3 x 360 - PS3 winning by far (NPD + Media Create + EU/Others)

Besides, I remember at the beginning of this gen, cows saw that the PS3 wasn't selling worth a damn, and they said sales didn't matter. Now all of a sudden, the PS3 outsells the 360 for a few months, and now sales are the be all, end all of the console war. Silly, silly cows.

its still not gonna catch up to the 360 in 08.

its been 3 months and the ps3 only outsold it by 1 million. multiple by 4 and the ps3 will only outsell the 360 by 4 million this year, 2 million behind.

MS is long overdue for a price drop, which they will do before GTA 4 comes out. MS let sony catch by not having as many price drops (or cheaper skus), thats where they made their mistake

I like how the cows forget about the several factors for the slow 360 sales, but then they come up with excuses like the one year headstart crap. Shortages, RROD, lack of a big price drop, no Blu-ray (yet). The ps3 already has an advantage in each of those aspects. So like some cow's will say "the ps3 beat the 360 with no games", the 360 is still winning without all of the things i mentioned. Imagine when the 360 get all of its problems sorted out?

How can a headstart be a disadvantage for the 360, RROD hasn't stopped people like myself from buying one, and Microsoft not including a next gen format isn't anyones problem, but their own. You say once Microsoft gets their problems sorted out, what by including a blu-ray player in the 360? Or withhold stock for a year so they could match the time frame of the PS3? Or finally fixing the RROD issue which won't impact sales because their selling just as much 360s now as they have since launch.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. The fact is the ps3's high price caused a very slow start, fact that none of the ps3's console moving titles have come out yet so sales still have room to improve. Fact Blu-ray has won the war so ps3 sales should grow exponentially through the year. Fact 360 has already recieved most of its big titles and was still outsold by the ps3.

I do remember that thread that casey put up talking about it's impossible for the PS3 to catch the 360 in 08 and the thread was disgusting because it had Yellow_Rose and many other XBOX fanboys spewing. BlackDianWei

Yeah I remember that thread and posting in it. Casey was saying that he wasn't being bias, but I sure couldn't tell. I provided numbers for him that show the PS3 would have to outsell the 360 by an average between 600,000-700,000 units every month to do so. So far its been around 400,000, but when the big titles come out that number will jump up greatly.

" How can PS3 surpass X360 sales at the end of 08?" " Its not possible get it over" and so many other things like that. I said to them to calm down and dont jump to conclusions because PS3 has potential and will sell eventually good , soon or later. They laughed at me...... They were tooooo sure about X360 future...

Now , where are they ? I have to see them 3 months or more. What about all these topics they made? Hope to see them again and start talking again about that , and would be my turn to laugh at them , as they did to me because simply i said the truth. Well I have both the ps3 and 360 and I play the ps3 the most because of free online, contoller preference and 360 hardware problems. I figured the less I play my 360 the longer it will last so far its been about 7months no problems. I haven't really touched it in about a month I've played all the big titles and exclusives already and I play all multiplats on the ps3 and only use the 360 for its exclusives. The next game I'm getting for the 360 is lost odyssey.

You should go ahead and get a 360 and just play exclusives on it will allow it to last longer.

Who cares Sony did what they had to do to stay in the competition. Not that it matters since finishing in 2nd isn't really an achievement.

Unless you're playing on the 360 - then everything's an achievement!

While it certainly looks like the PS3 is going to surpass the 360, I don't think it's happening this year. In order for that to happen the PS3 would have to sell like the Wii and the 360 would have to not sell any units at all.

i'm going to ignore your second paragraph because you said exactly what i was talking about in my first post. What makes you think everyone is like you? I know for a fact that there are lots of people out there waiting for the RROD fix. As much as i tell them it's really not that big of a deal, they still hear all of those exaggerrated news articles and think as if the 360 is completely unplayable. Whether that's the reason for the slow sales or the shortage issue, i would expect the 360 to be selling more now than they were at this time last year. Oh and if Blu-ray can benefit the ps3, what makes you think it can't benefit the 360?

This is no personal dig at you sir but is the fact that the PS3 "managed to outsell the 360 by more than a million units in 2007 (when 360 had it's golden lineup, it'll hardly have any other such as good), with *no games*" supposed to be something to be proud about? I what other business do companies get rewarded with sales by releasing a product almost 2x the price of the competition, not even included one of the key components that they are marketing their product toward (I.E. No HDMI cable included for HD output from jump) and contain an undoubtedly weaker library of content in it's first year of release compared to it's competition?

So are people ok with a system having arguably the best current library of games being outsold by a system that promisies to deliver the best future library of games? So when does the future become the present? (Chicken or the Egg theory at work)

I don't own either of the 2 systems yet (306 or PS3 ....Price being the issue), but I have come to this realization recently. You wanna know who the BIG winner in this gen is going to be? I'll give you a clue. It most likely won't be Sony, MS or Nintendo. It will be those publishers who are smart enough to know that they can make a killing on all 3 systems as appossed to being bullheaded and just catering to one console. That's a win for them. Think I'm joking? Ask Activision, EA and Ubisoft. They are the TRUE winners if you ask me.

Why don't you think it will? The beginning of the year is always the slowest sales-wise, even so the PS3 still managed to almost outsell the 360 by a million without any big game launches. There's a lot of games coming out for the PS3 to push sales... in fact, there are more system sellers for the PS3 this year than the 360 does, also you have to factor in the steadily decreasing sales which are affecting the 360. The existing library for the 360 showed last year that it's not pushing systems... the console showed a decrease in sales of almost 20% in the entire year of 2007, even with those absurd sales during Halo 3's launch.

Yes. Faults against Sony so far have been superficial mild publicity problems. MS had a massive hardware scandal. They aren't going to be able to restore their reputation and credibility for a while.

I'd like to point out that the Xbox 360 arcade edition is cheaper than the Wii by a good amount in the UK thanks to massive drops in price.

So are people ok with a system having arguably the best current library of games being outsold by a system that promisies to deliver the best future library of games? So when does the future become the present? (Chicken or the Egg theory at work)

I don't own either of the 2 systems yet (306 or PS3 ....Price being the issue), but I have come to this realization recently. You wanna know who the BIG winner in this gen is going to be? I'll give you a clue. It most likely won't be Sony, MS or Nintendo. It will be those publishers who are smart enough to know that they can make a killing on all 3 systems as appossed to being bullheaded and just catering to one console. That's a win for them. Think I'm joking? Ask Activision, EA and Ubisoft. They are the TRUE winners if you ask me.

I personally bought a 20GB PS3 when they launched. It cost me only 100 dollars more then the 360 and although the 360 had more games, its "quality" did not appeal to me. When I planned to enter this gen. I looked at what would be available in the present and also in the future. When I bought my 20GB PS3 I may have had to rock Resistance a little longer then i would have liked but overall my waiting wasnt long.

The current 360 games at the time just didnt appeal to me, and again quality and score is relative as we see when we go to gamerankings. I recall PDZ, Dead Rising, and Oblivion carrying the 360 till GEOW. I enjoyed many exclusive and multiplats since then and now in 2008 I have a huge amount of quality set franchises to look foward to.

This isnt even touching the fact that the PS3 satisfied both my video game and movie hobby. The PS3 looked bad in comparison because everyone expected (foolishly) all the top titles to release with the system but it didnt happen that way. Now after gaming with new solid franchises in 07 I get rewarded with the franchises I love in 08.

Even funnier is that the PS3 actually holds value. Great hardware, great reliability, and public interest is on the rise. What about the 360? :lol:

No let me ask you this......should Sony get their way and run away with this gen (Gambling and Winning Big)......wuts to stops them from launching the PS4 for...............let's just say $800? Are you gonna stand by the ( the PS# actually holds value) argument then too? What's your breaking point? I'll tell you right now, this gen started out waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay past the point I'm willing to shell out for a game system for, but being the gamer I am, I'm left sitting on the sidelines until the price of these systems come down to earth.

I what other business do companies get rewarded with sales by releasing a product almost 2x the price of the competition, not even included one of the key components that they are marketing their product toward (I.E. No HDMI cable included for HD output from jump) and contain an undoubtedly weaker library of content in it's first year of release compared to it's competition?

Yes. Faults against Sony so far have been superficial mild publicity problems. MS had a massive hardware scandal. They aren't going to be able to restore their reputation and credibility for a while.

not offering rumble at launch, saying that the consumers didn't need it (when in reality it was because of legal issues)? automatically assuming that people would blindly pay $600? PS2 DRE that took a lawsuit to acknowledge. don't kid yourself, sony is just as evil as M$, they've just been luckier this gen.

Rofl, the Playstation's faults were within acceptable fault boundaries. Hell, MS only made a meal out of it when the rate went up to 13% in one year. And Sony equipment is reknowned for its reliability. That't why their TVs, Laptops and sound systems are so popular.
