No. They are popular because they are pretty. And you pay a premium for that...PLEASE don't sit there and try and tell me their laptops are any good. If so, I got a bridge in GTA that I could sell you too.

No your wrong I sell computers and tvs and Sony is well known for its quality laptops and television sets, which is why they are always the most expensive of them all. Thats common knowledge. You don't have to believe me just walk into an electronics store look at the prices and talk to a rep they'll tell you the same thing.

Even though Sony products are the most reliable doesn't mean that they don't fail I've seen Sony products fail, but the point is they fail the least.

The PS1 and PS2 must have been major exceptions then. :?

No, the failure rates were withing acceptable margins. If they weren't, we'd have all be got three year warranty extensions and lemmings running round going "zomg! DRE of death!"

lmao

JUST WAIT COWS!!! ALAN WAKE AND TOO HUMAN WILL DESTROY THE PS3!! RAWWWWWRRRRR!!

It's a bit early to celebrate cows, it's only 2 months in a row. But I have to admit, the PS3 is doing fantastic with absoultely none of its biggest franchises out, and up against MS and Nintendo who both have cheaper systems and nearly all their franchises out.

-Ninja_Dog-

Cheap Blu Ray player.

360 still out sells the Wii and PS3 in games sales and that what really matters.

Only in the U.S. which it should since its over 10million units sold here

[QUOTE="Mad_Rhetoric"]only 7 million to go;)tok1879

6 in fact.

And don't worry. If it managed to outsell the 360 by more than a million units in 2007 (when 360 had it's golden lineup, it'll hardly have any other such as good), with *no games*, now that the games are coming it'll outsell it even faster... that's only logical.

This is no personal dig at you sir but is the fact that the PS3 "managed to outsell the 360 by more than a million units in 2007 (when 360 had it's golden lineup, it'll hardly have any other such as good), with *no games*" supposed to be something to be proud about? I what other business do companies get rewarded with sales by releasing a product almost 2x the price of the competition, not even included one of the key components that they are marketing their product toward (I.E. No HDMI cable included for HD output from jump) and contain an undoubtedly weaker library of content in it's first year of release compared to it's competition?

So are people ok with a system having arguably the best current library of games being outsold by a system that promisies to deliver the best future library of games? So when does the future become the present? (Chicken or the Egg theory at work)

I don't own either of the 2 systems yet (306 or PS3 ....Price being the issue), but I have come to this realization recently. You wanna know who the BIG winner in this gen is going to be? I'll give you a clue. It most likely won't be Sony, MS or Nintendo. It will be those publishers who are smart enough to know that they can make a killing on all 3 systems as appossed to being bullheaded and just catering to one console. That's a win for them. Think I'm joking? Ask Activision, EA and Ubisoft. They are the TRUE winners if you ask me.

yes, i'm okay with it and i'll tell you why.....Sony has made some stupid moves this gen, like taking rumble out of the controllers, making the damn system so expensive and arrogantly assuming everyone was going to work a second job just to buy their system. But IMO, Sony has also been the most generous out of all three. They took the biggest loss for each console sold. They offer the cheapest and by no means worst online experience. Yes all three of them are businesses that are in it to make money, but the chances of Sony offering things for free or cheap, is greatly higher than that of the competition. It's amazing the things u could do with the allegiance of the psp and ps3. The 360 does have the best games now, but i can't bring myself to pay for gaming online, i don't care how much it is, it could be as little as 2c a day. And i will never buy any DLC, from both Sony and Microsoft. If we all give in to that, it's only going to start a trend......

Now thats a good way of looking at this gen as well. Good point.

Why do you keep talking about the PS1 failure problems thats news to me, I had two of those and they worked fine until I upgraded to a PS2 same thing with the PS2 I had 2 of those gave one to my brother traded the other one in for a PS3. The only problem with the ps2 was due to extensive use as a dvd player which it wasn't designed to be which is why I never watched movies on it and it lasted five years.

It did take a lawsuit to convince Sony to fix the problem, though.

and thats with how many price drops and sku liquidations?

sinseers

What a weak grasp at straws. Like the arcade, the elite, the core, the premiuim, and whatever chipsets they have, haven't been many variations when compred to the 4 that PS3 has had. You must have been joking.

Oh, and the price, funny too. People cried and cried last year about the PS3 price. Now that they've dropped it, people are crying because they dropped it.

Even funnier is that the PS3 actually holds value. Great hardware, great reliability, and public interest is on the rise. What about the 360?

You made very valid points. No let me ask you this......should Sony get their way and run away with this gen (Gambling and Winning Big)......wuts to stops them from launching the PS4 for...............let's just say $800? Are you gonna stand by the ( the PS# actually holds value) argument then too? What's your breaking point? I'll tell you right now, this gen started out waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay past the point I'm willing to shell out for a game system for, but being the gamer I am, I'm left sitting on the sidelines until the price of these systems come down to earth.

It's all about waiting through the launch period. At least, as late in the first year as possible. This way you allow the technology to catch up a little and the console cost to go down. Both the PS3 and 360 have dropped in price, some areas more than others. So, you could easily argue that anyone who bought at launch or soon after got "screwed."

That's the price you pay for getting something early. Just like paying Live fees. Once PSN gets a few of the known and soon to be released updates, Live and PSN will be very, very closely matched. Would that mean all of the money spent by 360 owners on Live was wasted from launch until then? Hell no. That money went towards getting all of the great features before any other console.

If the PS4 comes out at $800, that would be very steep. Would probably be ridiculous to think people would jump on it. Would also probably mean that the thing would be one insane machine. And it would also mean that once the price dropped, it would be a force to be reckoned with.

But do i think Sony will do that? No, I don't think so. I think this gen has been one.....huge....lesson. But they could turn around and do everything you said and lose a ton of people, counting me. We all know MS has learned a lesson this gen, make better hardware.

And I think that's the better, more important topic in the "what if" colomn. What if MS comes out early, in a rush again and drops another deuce called console hardware? There's more of a possibility of that than there is of a early, PS4 at $800.

My PS2 screwed over my Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance disk, for example. I was shocked because I wasn't used to such..."quality".

There definitely were problems. Not as big as the 360's, but still considerable.

You ARE kidding right? You must be...now say wut you want about the RROD but at the very least MS stamped an extended warranty. What Sony do about the PS1 and PS2? They straight up DENIED any such issues with their machines. Didn't even offer so much as "My Bad". I PERSONALLY witnessed display PSX systems sitting upside down at Funcolands. Why do you think there were more then 7 different PSX models over it's lifetime? NO as for the PS2, I'm willing to cut Sony a little slack on the DRE even though there were CLEAR problems between reading Blue Discs and Silver Discs. But hey wuts a little model changing among friends huh?

Once again good points. To answer your question I will do exactly what I'm doing right now, sitting on my hands and my wallet until I'm satisfied that such issues are taken care of. When that happens then I dive in.

Fact even my 360 is working fine 7 months strong, but I worked at BestBuy and GameCrazy and witnessed the 360's failure rate from launch till the beginning of last year and I've seen as many as 40+ 360s fail yes 40+ from customers to demo booths the failure rate of the 360 is atrocious. All of my friends have had at least one fail and some over 2. I have 6 friends who have had a ps3 since launch like myself and they all work.

Do you think I care for Microsofts three year warranty? If I send it to them I'm not even going to get the same console back? Plust when you start that cycle with Microsoft the one they send you is one that has already failed and is bound to fail again. The 360 shouldn't even be failing in the first place. Fact that the 360 is the only console not covered by in store warrenty at Gamestop which is why I bought mines at BestBuy is sad.

The Wii has shortages, and it still manages to sell awesome :D

I'm sorry, but announcing less than 24 hours before NPD results honestly seem like damage control.

Funny how the cows serm to always have plenty of time to fuel threads like these, seeing that they're playing such good games. If you try to turn it on my, check my gamertag. BTW, peeps watch the quote chains pertaining to TOS.

Hexagon_777

The PS1 and PS2 must have been major exceptions then. :?

No, the failure rates were withing acceptable margins. If they weren't, we'd have all be got three year warranty extensions and lemmings running round going "zomg! DRE of death!"

It did take a lawsuit to convince Sony to fix the problem, though.

First off, those console WERE WITHIN ACCEPTABLE FAULT BOUNDARIES, something I have said repeatedly yet you have ignored since it is clear your probably don't understand what that means. It means that these faults were factored into the amount of faults any console can expect with given hardware. In addition, if you actually looked up the law suit, the fraction of consumers who did have this problem were given $25, a new game and the choice of repair or a new console. All Xbox 360 users get is a waiting period, the need to log into live to access downloaded content they have already bought, and one month subscription to live, which lemmings still claim is $4 a month.

Every gamer should care about sales of his/her chosen console, because if its successful then it will attract devs to release games on it...

Seeing all the bashing PS3's poor sales got, I think its only normal that US (PS3 owners / fanboys) are happy that sales are getting better and better... My interest was never in exceeding the Xbox360 sales because its obvious that it will end last in the so called 'console war', but I prefare comparing sales with the WII, since its selling like crazy..

Being from EU, sales for the PS3 have always been good to lately great while in Japan it will probably get better with releases of some good RPG's, guess the only market Sony needs to focus more is the US...

Apparantly the PS3 will have a longer life span than the 360. If that's to be believed, then the notion that the PS3 will outsell the 360 is plausible.

It's close. I'll be one of those 11 million by summer :D

Well, considering that MS has made announcements that they expect to have a new console launch by Q1 2010 and Sony is still holding onto the tagline that the PS3 has a ten year lifecycle, that seems entirely possible.

That, and Sony can't suddenly say "OMG! we got good sales, we are going to start development on good games and release them tomorrowz!" The good games are around the corner, games like MGS4.

This is only the beginning

of one of the most amazing comebacks in video game history.

The PlayStation 3 will continue to outsell the 360 more and more each month until the end of this generation.

Actually, it sold slightly more than the Xbox 360 did in its first year. The only reason Xbox 360 fans were bragging that it wasn't selling was because the Xbox 360 had a headstart in sales by a year (more than that in europe in fact).

6 in fact.

And don't worry. If it managed to outsell the 360 by more than a million units in 2007 (when 360 had it's golden lineup, it'll hardly have any other such as good), with *no games*, now that the games are coming it'll outsell it even faster... that's only logical.

Haha, not logical at all. The PS3 had price cuts as well as games that were supposed to be system sellers in 2007. Even with that it is still 6 million behind, which means it would still need 6 years to catch up to the 360, by which time new versions of both consoles will be out and no one will care.

Based on the latest Famitsu numbers…

  • PS3 comparisons: After 71 weeks, PS3 is where PS2 was at 16.6 weeks (June 22, 2000), where PSP was at 47.2 weeks (October 31, 2005), where GCN was at 68.2 weeks (December 30, 2002), and where Wii was at 17.7 weeks (March 29, 2007)
I hope so right now it barley selling faster than the GC

Rofl, yeh, it's funny how people always claimed that he Xbox 360 was doing great and it's only recently that it has slumped in sales, but it's only the US market that was being "dominated" by Xbox 360 sales.

Finally! Agreeeeed! The only market X360 dominates is the US Market! But i don't care anymore, to me in my honest personal opinion, I'm not going to dish out 300 + dollars for an X360 when I could just pay 400 US for a PS3 that has hot titles being released soon, free online play, blu-ray drive, already hot games released and more! Since the price drop, BAM PS3 sales have been rising like mad and ever since titles like GOW III and FFXIII have been announced as well as GT5 P and MGS 4 have been released/are going to release, the PS3 sales rose by even more! In EU PS3 sales dominates that of the X360 buy 25k + ! In Japan, PS3 sales SHAMED that of the X360 (We already know Japs don't really like MS anyway), and i'm talking about both console and software sales!

PS3 sales are rising because people finally are doing the right thing in my opinion. Flame me all you want, but you know it's true. X360 has more sales TOTAL (not weekly or monthly) than the PS3 because : (1) It was released first wasn't it? (2) I'll admit it, the PS3 prices WERE EXPENSIVE and hence the majority of people decided to dish out 300 US for an X360 instead of 600US for a PS3.

That's the obvious truth and most X360 fans KNOW it but want to defend their console. Don't get me wrong, I'd do the same thing lol.

have you seen the sales numbers? no, they havent picked up, they are selling less. it was the "limited" edition mgs4 bundle sold out. but they never said how many they sold. if it was a high number, they would have said how many. but since they kept the number of units sold a secret, im guessing its not that many. plus the Wii has been outselling the ps3 by at least 30,000 units each week for 2008

It doesn't matter if PS3 is closing in. It's too slow. And 360 has a lot of killer apps on the way. Even if PS3 outsells 360 by this gens end..it won't be more than 5-10 million..in which case would be a decent result from MS...who were thrased last gen. MS already said they want more Market share...and they have done that..Away from Sony...who thought they would continue dominance like PS2...didn't happen. And won't happen. I think both companies will be happy come 3rd gen..because it will be a 50/50 market...unless Nintendo create next wii to be as powerful as their machines.

have you seen the sales numbers? no, they havent picked up, they are selling less. it was the "limited" edition mgs4 bundle sold out. but they never said how many they sold. if it was a high number, they would have said how many. but since they kept the number of units sold a secret, im guessing its not that many. plus the Wii has been outselling the ps3 by at least 30,000 units each week for 2008

ok thats fair enough. wii is in its own league at the moment nothing can compare to it. but anyway once msg4 normal bundles release i will gurantee you system sales, software sales will increase and xbox360 will have nothing on ps3 in japan after that
