edit.. plus it was on a VG rumor site.. i wouldnt really trust it.. i hope its true though
If this is true... then it seems I'll be having a blu-ray player sooner than expected. Good, because that Uncharted thingie has been tempting me for quite some time.
If true, damn! I just bought a new 40gb off ebay Sunday.:cry:LINKloco
Well, chances are you got it for cheaper than $400.
Just did some reading and it loks like Sony at least denied it for now....KD-Archangel

I wouldn't put too much trust in what a PS3 exec says about a price drop. It's their job to deny it as long as possible. Otherwise, they'd suffer a plunge in sales with people holding off for the cheaper option. All companies do the same, noy only sony.
A console exec would prefer for these news to hit the day the consoles appear in retail, basically.
Don't worry, you guys will get the left overs. :)
Where's the love for Europe

[QUOTE="Arsenal325"]i just read this saying no 299 ps3-Renegade
This SAME guy from Sony said the EXACT same thing THREE days before the first price drop. Monday can't come fast enough.
wow i hope this is true.. i just dont like seeing it on a site called vg rumors. blogspot.... but this would be awesome if true

Didn't you Europeans get a damn red/black PSP? I want one, still see nothing.. It'll match my Mario Kart Edition Red Original DS.
God. If this is true, Sony is continously ripping people off. Somebody do something about this. dkhw
Ermm how are they ripping people off? Technology gets cheaper all the time i don't know why your making a big deal about a Price Drop.
This is almost genius because it will also spur on more PS2 sales (because a PS2 costs $129.99 and the difference between an 80 GB and a 40 GB is $150....so you might as well just get a 40 GB and a PS2 if you want B/C). This is how Sony affords to do this....along with the aforementioned drop in production costs which continue to dive thanks to Blu-Ray winning the HD-format war.MikeE21286

Your logic makes no sense. If Sony pawned Microsoft in the format war, there is NO COMPETETION. That means, Sony is free to market their blu-rays at price they feel comfortable. They would take this opportunity to make money and not lose money by decreasing the cost of PS3 AGAIN. I blieve Sony said it takes 400 dollars to make one nowadays. Why would they want to continue losing money by decreasing it once again? It really makes no sense from a business standpoint unless Sony thinks they can absolutely wipe out 360 and wii with this price decrease
[QUOTE="redboxa"]remember when the console sold for 600? canuck19
i also remeber wen i bought if for 650 down in Canada
but atleast i got a 15% discount :D
haha.. but im just glad to know that im a launch ps3 owner.. makes me feel special.. hahaha.. plus i have full B/C with my 60 gig..

As more people buy blu-ray players they can enjoy economies of scale and it becomes cheaper to produce. That's my point....perfectly fine logic.

Bingo. But not the Wii....I don't think Sony is going after the Wii really anymore, it's all about the 360.

if its 400 for ps3 theyd be making money off the 80 gig and im pretty sure they make money off of ps2... maybe hahaha because ps2 has been 120 or 130 for ages now.. plus maybe making money off psp as well

There are many other factors involved that neither you nor I could possibly know about. It's not uncommon for corporations to intentionally take losses on the production/sale of products if they have reason to believe they can make up the loss elsewhere (Blu-ray ring a bell?).

That's obviously true, but, over the years, Sony hardware has taken real hits. Apple. Dell. Microsoft. Nintendo. I would like to think that they actually want profits on one of their most important hardwares in PS3.
