Some games wouldn't look right at 60 fps. Can you imagine a game like Silent Hill 2 at 60 fps? It would lose all of its creepy slow paced cinematic feel. The same reason why most movies look better at 24 fps, The Hobbit looked fake as hell at 120 or whatever the hell they used. I also turned on Skyfall on 60 FPS and it just didn't look right, looked too fake.

If done right, 30 fps can look more at home than 60 fps. I was surprised to hear that Halo 3 and 4 was at 30 fps, it plays so smooth and fluid, then look at the new Killzone....its also 30 fps but looks choppy as hell.

thoughts? of coarse hermits will try and justify 140 fps or whatever the hell they're up to but it just doesn't look as good as 30 fps in many cases. A game like Bayonetta 2 looks awesome at 60 fps but a game like Silent Hill 2 and 3 and The Evil Within looks much better at 30.

thoughts?

Nope, every game would look better at 60 fps, EVERY SINGLE ONE, you can keep drinking your cool laid and tell yourself it isn't true, but it is. For the record i played a few months ago silent hill 2 and 3 and they ran and looked great at 60 fps, just the bump in resolution and fps made them look better than their "hd release"

Ofc consolites will try to justify their lol 30 fps, just like you, kinda sad.

na, it loses it cinematic feel. it looks less like a movie and more like a Best Buy TV display model video of the ocean and birds and shit like that. Yes it looks more fluid but it looks less like a movie.

"cinematic"? xD the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps is that 30 feels more sluggish and slow, at 60 fps everything feels smooth, fluid and more responsive. There is nothing "cinematic" but hey keep the excuses up. I have actually played silent hill both in pc and hd versions, keep dreaming there is anything good about 30 fps.

I thought most movies are 24 FPS minus some like the hobbit that are 48. Maybe consoles should aim at 24 then?

Yup, if you only have weak sauce console then it is the only way to convince yourself that 30 FPS is cinematic.

Framerate has nothing to do about the looks and everything about how the game plays

You think 60fps looks weird because consoles make you used to 30. 60 is better in every way possible.

Ugh.. Not again. 30 FPS is NEVER better.

How on earth would the fps change the game pace? wtf? More fps doesn't make things faster.. If an animation takes 5 seconds it still takes the same amount of time whether the frame rate is 5 or 500, it only makes them smoother.
And there is no such thing as "cinematic feel".

For the 100th time, movies are not games. The frames in a movie are not the same thing as game frames. When shooting a movie you're capturing the light overtime, so the motion blur is built into each frame in the image itself. A game however is just a series of images, it is NOT the same thing as movies.
Also you can't "turn Skyfall to 60", it's not magic..

no scrub, games like COD, and mario kart, and fast paced games look better at 60 fps. but slow paced horror games and cinematic games like metal gear solid look better at 30 fps.

It ought to be a crime for developers to make a game at 30 fps unless the hardware can't handle it.

I like this. Let's charge Ubisoft first.

Even if the hardware can't handle it, they can reduce the visuals in action games. I'd prefer that in most cases.

MGS2 is 60fps, fast-paced, and it's also my favorite.

MGS4 only hits 60 with nothing going on.

You know in best buy when they have those videos playing to show the tv quality, they show birds and shit and the ocean. Yes it looks fluid and realistic but it doesn't have that movie feel, for some reason I don't know why but MOST movies look better at 24 fps. I don't know why but they just look like movies, it has a sort of feel to them. Like Skyfall for instance, I turned on my tv to double the fps and it looked more fluid and stuff but it also looked like someone was acting in it, hard to explain, it looked like someone being fake on camera. But in 24 fps you lose yourself in the movie, it looks like a movie, it doesn't look like actors being fake on camera.

The same goes for certain genres of games, IF DONE RIGHT 30 fps feels like your inside a movie, it has a movie theater presentation to it. But for fast paced twitch games like Bayonetta 2, Call of Duty, SSB, 60 fps looks and plays better.

its better in some cases, like cod, bayonetta, SSB...when theres a lot of shit going on, on screen, 60 fps looks better.....but when your alone creeping your way through a dark hallway and the game has a sort of foggy creepy feel to it, it feels more like a movie at 30 fps.

Your entire point is based on subjective bullshit, like how you think slow paced games should look, or how you think movies should look. Which is just ridiculous. How many PC gamers played Amnesia at 60fps and went "man I dunno all these extra frames really ruin the mood." Or play SC: Chaos Theory and go "ew man Sam moves too smoothly I'm not invested at all!"

Objectively speaking, higher framerate is flat out superior. More clarity and more information is provided, and for games, it also means improved responsiveness and smoother animations. Your poorly constructed subjective nonsense won't change any of that.

"Cinematic feel" is the most laughable term in gaming. Why do you want games to be like movies in the first place? Shouldn't the media be explored for what it's good at, rather than dumbing it down to the levels of non-interactive media?

If you want to watch a movie, go watch a movie. Higher framerate is always better when player interaction is involved. I'm not a supporter of 60 fps. I'm supporter of higher fps. Higher the better! The absolute limit of beneficial fps (~150 fps, and VASTLY higher for VR like Oculus Rift) is far beyond our current disgusting standards.

I am confused are we talking about movies or games? In a game what would mater if it's running at 30 or 60 fps? The imagine is dynamically created so more fps would be more frames per movement. This won't increase the pace. a movie is a bunch of pictures put together to make motion. Raising the fps can make it look unnatural "soap opera" effect

No it doesn't.

This is not an opinion. This is a fact. Higher framerates > lower framerates. In 50 years people will laugh this debate even happened as movies, TV, and video games will be at higher framerates, probably even higher than 60.

A game loses its cinematic feel at 30fps. 24fps works much better for games & movies. 30 fps for games is just silly; 60fps is even sillier. Trust me, I'm a dev.

lol.

If the consoles were more powerful and every single game was at least 60 fps, this entire argument wouldn't even exist. It's a pathetic attempt at damage control and you all need to get over it.

No, you just have been confined to that peasant box for too long, you would be able to get used to. Don't worry though, things are not going to change for most of your XO games

60fps can look sped up if you're just watching, playing is a different thing

Silent 2 and 3 looked great at 60 fps on PC. I don't feel like the games were weaker or less atmospheric at a higher framerate. You list the Hobbit as an example, but movies and games are very different. The human eye can detect fakeness very easily when it comes to cgi and after effects meshing with real life. That isn't the case with games which are all virtual.

I wonder what peoples reaction would be if it were the opposite and movies were at 60 fps and then someone released a film at 24 fps.

High fps is more immersive because it's more realistic. Feeling like you're there should be scarier than feeling like you're watching a movie.

The reason movies are 24 fps is because it's cheaper.

Yes, it does. When it's stable.

I didn't think anyone would agree. 60fps is just better.

its better in some cases, like cod, bayonetta, SSB...when theres a lot of shit going on, on screen, 60 fps looks better.....but when your alone creeping your way through a dark hallway and the game has a sort of foggy creepy feel to it, it feels more like a movie at 30 fps.

That is exactly when you want 60 fps. I don't need some choppy monster making its way towards me. If a monster is barreling down at me at 60 fps it feels like its coming even faster and that makes it more terrifying.

Don't get me wrong. 60fps is ALWAYS better as a concept. 30fps is only better when the game has rock-solid stable 30fps and never drops a frame, as opposed to a game with wildly unstable 60fps. But only then.

I played silent hill 2 at 60fps on pc and it was perfectly fine. So is evil within when it can hit 60.

I've seen an equal amount of frame rate and resolution nonsense from both cows and lemmings.
