interesting info on the state of the 360 (sales-wise as opposed to games-wise)

says that as of the date the article was written (4/10/2007), the 360 has yet to have sold 10 million unit. the article says that MS employed "channel stuffing" to allow them to announce higher sales figures than were true. also explains why MS officially announced the elite at the end of the quarter in order to boost sales figures through booking reservatons for the new console version. MS is undoubtedly in the lead for this game gen currently, but tactics such as these have an air of desperation and you can only wonder how long will its lead last? the article also has a whole bunch of intersting info on the dealings between the manufacters and the retailers.

okay i guess the number of units is highly disputed so forget the question of whether MS has sold/shipped 10 mill, whats more important is that this wall street article exposed "channel stuffing" tacticts used by MS and the retailers practice of holding back on orders until there is a panic by the sellers. both of these bits of info affect the consumer.

this site is a wall street site, a bit more accurate than videogame fansites. it even does all the math for you. its kind of a long read though so i will simplify it for everyone:

MS was not going to reach its 10 million sold goal, so they forced more products through the distribution channels than the channel is capable of selling to the world at large. its called "channel stuffing". basically they forced retailers to take on more units than they could possibly sell by leveraging vista. once the units had been shipped to the retailers MS claimed they had sold 10 million. i know it ends in the old sold vs shipped argument but this proves you have to take every sales report (from all companies) with a grain of salt. it aso poses the question of why when there are several great games out on the 360 is MS desperately having to cover-up its slipping sales?

The rate of sales of the 360 is not very spectacular. Only Lemmings cannot see it. As for PS3 and the Wii, it is too early to tell as these first few months can be misleading. The way I see it, Nintendo has already won, because with around 6 mil sold, and every console a profit, it is probably the company with the most profit from their console sales.

I think some of what the dude wrote could be somewhat accurate, and think that the 360 is around 10 million sold.

But I lost all credibility for the article when he stated that the PS3 is on track to out sell the 360 by the end of the year.  This dude obviously has a hate on for MS, and the article obviously show this.  He lost crediability with that hilarious and obvious outright lie.

Besides that, the harsh reality is the the inferior hardware Wii is outselling both the 360 and PS3.  And the 360 is outselling the PS3.  Wii will do really good for the next 2 years, but drop off after that.  It's graphics are really dated, but the control scheme will keep it in the game for a little while along with it "Mario" games.

Funny thing here, is Sony with it's PS3 is doing that same thing, he even states this in the article.  Only figure that would be most accurate is sales of the Wii, because you still can't find a Wii on the shelves of stores for longer than an hour.

360 sales are fairly good, PS3 sales are fairly bad, and the Wii is really good.

We know that Nintendo has already succeeded in putting out a rather inferior fun console that makes money from day one.  But the real battle is 360 vs PS3, and this one can be much more interesting.  With the 360 winning virtually in every category right now, it's gonna be a long and hard recovery for the PS3, if it really ever recovers.

Just like the whole under 10 million thing. No proof, just assumptions. Yet you keep on arguing with me. Do you like me or something?

Oh, remember in science class when they taught you to make an educated guess? To gather evidence and make your guess based on that evidence. It works most of the time believe it or not.

it took 15 months to almost sell 10 million 360s, to simplify the math lets say in 16 months its sells 10 million.

its taken 4 months to sell 3 million ps3s, at this rate when it reaches 16 months it will have sold 12 million.

and chances are that the sales will increase because (and lems will back this up) the ps3 has a small number of decent games right now so its not selling very fast as it will when the heavy hitters are released.

To bad simple math doesn't reflect month by month sales figures. $600 and multiplat games are not going over to well with the casual market.

^the whole "the world is flat" thingy is a myth trying to make medival look boneheaded. SAilers way back in ancient times knew that the wolrd was round, and theyæve roughly managed to calculate the earths surface pre christian times. (look it up ;) )

but that's not the point, the point is that MS is the only company that doesn't "keep track" on their sales offically. And that in it's self should be a warning signal imo. I think it was just a matter of time until certain MS strategies got in the spotlight.

Right, but we trust some random article over Microsoft's sales data? Give me a break. They passed the 10 million mark in systems sold - they told us they did, and until someone other than some guy with a vendetta and an internet connection gets some hard data, that's what we're forced to accept. It's the same as the "Waah-waah no one bought a PSP" crap I hear from the Nintendo fanboys - something on the order of over 20 million people have a PSP, it's the sluggish software sales and complete failure of UMD that was the problem, and that the DS is a more attractive platform to publishers (both in system sales and in software sales).

It's like when people were claiming the Elite wasn't coming - or price drops were coming - or that a PS3 price cut is coming in October, or any of the other crap - it's always "insider data" that doesn't exist, and a complete inability to say where exactly that data came from.

lol the360 might be outselling the ps3 in America but you can bet world wide that has changed now they have the console out in euro, overall the ps3 will just outsell the 360 each month because of japan and europe

Whats to be in denial about the 360 has been out over a year it is selling like it should be. I love how cows talk soo much crap when their own system isnt even selling that great. I dont want to hear it was the fastest selling console in the UK or any other Sony spin BS; hell a week later the sales for the PS3 dropped 80 percent and 62 percent for software sales in the UK. This is for a system that should be selling way better due to its supposed "High demand" and "100 million" userbase.

The sales for the PS3 are mediocre at best in pretty much all regions; which seems about right since its an overhyped mediocre system.

This is a slow time for all systems to tell you the truth. The 360 is selling fine; I mean yes sales could be better but thats with anything. The PS3 again has mediocre sales and the system just recently launched I dont understand why cows are talking so much crap they have nothing to brag about at this point in time. If anything the Wii boys should be talking that system is selling very good and could most likely end up in the first place spot which is fine by mean as long as it isnt Sony.

interesting info on the state of the 360 (sales-wise as opposed to games-wise)

says that as of the date the article was written (4/10/2007), the 360 has yet to have sold 10 million unit. the article says that MS employed "channel stuffing" to allow them to announce higher sales figures than were true. also explains why MS officially announced the elite at the end of the quarter in order to boost sales figures through booking reservatons for the new console version. MS is undoubtedly in the lead for this game gen currently, but tactics such as these have an air of desperation and you can only wonder how long will its lead last? the article also has a whole bunch of intersting info on the dealings between the manufacters and the retailers.

I don't think the guy is anti 360...It's entirely possible though.

But it's a BLOG. WTF? This blog is in no way connected to ANY Wall Street firm. He may work on wall street in some capacity, But I really hope people don't believe the actual blog is a corporate Wall Street blog. IT ISN'T. This is just one guy's opinion.

We all know MS are lying about their sales figures, why would they have to release another console to compete with the Ps3 if they're indeed selling so well? I'm guessing MS has only sold 7 million units, meaning the Wii will pass it next month, and Ps3 will pass it by Halloween.

Those "Officially" released sales figures are false,as pointed out by that article. Ms have only sold 7 million units, and have 5 million Live users.

There is no doubt the 360 is leading with 7 million sold, but how long will it take Ps3&Wii to pass it?A month?2 months? The issue is,MS have been lying about their sold units. Nothing surprising here.

Where do you have proof that the figures in that blog are factual?

I agree with the guy BTW. I believe all companies do variations of this. BUT IT'S A BLOG. His data could be as inaccurate as a fanboy in system wars or one of the counting sites like Next Gen Wars or VG charts..Since there are no official numbers everything is an estimate which is not a good thing take as fact because....well, it isn't fact.

Lemmings wont agree, they are in denial. X360 sales has been stagnant, thus the release of Emilk X360.
