No, it's run on multipurposed servers, and the actual bandwidth and server space requirements are significantly less than those of free services, such as MSN Messanger, Hotmail, et cetera - and contain far more valuable advertising. It doesn't add up - the cash flows in, the small (insignificant) infrastructure on Microsoft's end (which they had to begin with), and a software client that paid for itself a long time ago.The only reason to continue to charge for LIVE is because people insist on volunteering their wallets, and that's just pretty damn sad that people are that willing to *defend* MS. You shouldn't be defending them *at all* as a consumer, that's their job.

I'd like to see your proof that the infrastructure is smaller then those running MSN Messanger and Hotmail. Basing your only remaining argument on that is pretty week.

I'd like to see the source of that information as well.
And I wonder where they match you to players based on your preferences (gamerzone, rep, prefer/avoid status, feedback) and on skill (TrueSkill). The people... you know the one with the doctorates, that develop and maintain this, get their paychecks. Mind you, these only come into play with online multiplayer.
And what about the functional cross-game invites?

Whats the use of all that if you're going to experience lag ? :|I am getting a 360 ever so soon! One thing that surprised me was that, even tho the 360 is the only system that charges for online play, alot of people subscribe! I am assuming it must be really good, then,.....since it costs $50 per year!
Give ur best reasons why xbox live is worth the money, and what makes it better than other online play abilities on the wii and ps3

It's worth having. Games are superb online for one (see Halo 3, GOW, COD4 etc). You can download movies (full movies, most of which you can have in HD) and music. Full xbox original games. Pretty much no lag on most games. XBL Arcade games, some of which are actually good. It is incredibly easy to chat with friends over Live.
PSN will be better than XBL in the long run, M$ will have no choice but to make it free.trizzle_a
I think it's quite the opposite. Sony will have to start charging for certain features or they are going to have nothing but problems.
The pay to play model helps maintain a lot of control over the network. Sony is going to have way more community problems then XBL does if they manage to even develop anything resembling a community.
