ya 200 k sales with no killer ap like mario is failure , even when you take into the consideration of what psp go sold ,

now that is a failure ,

the 3ds is doing just fine ,

it will pick up sales and start out selling oh wait -it has no competition right now ngp is not even out ngp will be its competitor not psp

psp is the competitor to ds which is outselling psp everywhere execpt in japan but guess what ds plus 3ds combined last week=to more sales then psp and psp go combined

so have fun with your theory while 3ds is out selling psp 1 ,, your only defense is japan thats weak sauce considering the fact 3ds overall still has more sales then psp in 10 weeks of sales-i did the math already

and like i said it does not have the following games just yet

mariokart(it was about the time in 2005 when ds 1 picked up sales thanks to nintendogs and mariokart)

once the 3ds picks these up=which will be before ngp even launches (dealing with rushed launch games) and ds offthe market ,,the 3ds will pick up steam and fast

Except that things are starting to be very different this time around. The 3DS won't fail, but I can't see nearly 145 million DS owners upgrading to the 3DS. It'll be just like the transition from PS2 to PS3, in which the PS2 had 150+ million owners, but with PS3 now having just 50+ million owners.

Also, the cell phones, IPhones, etc., is already taking off within casuals, & Nintendo will have a ugly battle on their hands trying to get casuals to buy the 3DS.

Smart phones have emulators. Through emulators and the right hardware, potentially any Nintendo handheld (previous to the 3DS) could be emulated.

Depending on the chips, software and graphics rendering of certain bit of code the 3DS uses, even the 3DS may be able to be emulated down the road.

Instead the 3DS is trying to attract the hardcore gamer and play up the 3D effect. But when Project Cafe comes out next year, the two devices will be competing with each other for hardcore gamers' next-gen attentions, and we only have so much money to spend.

The system will sell well during the holiday season. Older hardware outselling newer is nothing new, it has happen before...

and game gear failed not only cause battery but price as well ,

the 3ds battery isnt a problem its nearly as good as the dsphat ,,(5-9 hours) vs 5-8 on lowest settings)

so ya and ds had mario to , 3ds did not so with that out of the way the 3ds is actually doing better then ds considering ds had at least 1 app -mario 64 ,

the 3ds has 3 nintenod made games but they arent the popular ones among thegamers , nintendogs -which sold pretty well ,

steel diver- new ip and pilotwings-really the same as wii sports - so its not really a killer ap ,

wait til mario kart super mario bros zelda starfox kid icaris resident evil mgs 3 driver , and most importantly wait for the store and pokemon ,,

they can always come back ,

US 3DS sales likely declined at an even more rapid pace than they did in Europe and Japan. I don't see how they're going to meet their fiscal target for shipments this quarter considering the launch shipment has effectively stuffed the channel.

Nothing came out for the 3DS last month so this isn't a surprise. It going to pick up the pace next month.

All current high-end electronics have similar battery life (yeah, smart phones can last days on a single charge... until you start trying to play games on them). It's a technological limitation, not a design flaw.

When they're actually a remake of a successful game with new features and content. I know several people who will be buying a 3DS when Ocarina of Time is released.

Because it is. Oh, the Pokemon and CoD series are crazy sellers, sure, but that doesn't mean everyone cares about them.

Take Pokemon Diamond and Pearl for example. Together they sold roughly 20 million copies (dont quote me on this), and how many DSs were sold again? Over 140 million right? that's over 120 MILLION DS owners who never bought them.

Conlusion: Yes, a lot of people don't really care about Pokemon or CoD, despite their hype and/or their (questionable) quality.

Although it's my favourite console of the generation, I fully admit it was lacking in it's library for the core audience. Not having those multiplatform releases really hurt the platform.

But, I don't necessarily think it's fair to say that it doesn't deserve the success it gained. Nintendo made a fantastic product that appealed to the masses through software like the Wii series, Mario Kart and more. It's not as if they did absolutely nothing to earn it.

Nintendo accomplished what they set out to do. They expanded the market, they changed the way their development partners think about game design and they got both their competition to scramble and create their own motion control devices.

They took what the industry was and shook it up, introducing more players into the market and overall, creating a healthier industry.
