Wow, and I thought 5 hours was for the highest setting. What went wrong??
PSP2 might even match these numbers, looks like Ninty made a lot of sacrifices for 3d...

Which is why I will get the inevitable "3DS Lite." I really want the 3DS but not with that short of a battery.
This sucks but the PSP2 will probably have 1 hour battery life :PkuraimenYou should stop assuming. The OLED saves alot of battery and the PSP2 is big so it's a fact that it's going to have a nice battery. Plus you can change batteries so you can always get a new one or bring a backup with you.

Actually it's sealed, meaning that you wont be able to replace or switch batteries. This makes me think that the battery provided will do a good job( I hope).
I said earlier that 3DS's 3D screen will chew up battery life how could it not. How can anyone think this thing is going to last 8 hours with the 3D on it highest setting. The PSP2 has an OLED screen which saves power which will probably help the PSP2 get 4 to 5 hours of battery life. Fans of the 3DS have to understand their are sacrifices when you are getting a 3D screen. Its gonna take some power to give games that extra depth and detail in the games.
5 hours highest brightness, 8 hours lowest brightness, presumably - as that's what's specified for DS games.Um, that's nice, what about if the 3D is turned off?

Hmm, I assumed it was just referring to 2D gameplay.Um, isn't that for when the 3D is on at full blast?
789shadow
But it says a 25% difference so, presumably 4 hours on full brightness, 6.5 hours on lowest.
3D eats up juice big time. PSP2 doesn't do 3D so that's not a problem plus OLED screens use less power than LCD.
fairly terrible stats :S i've been on train journeys longer than that if i go see mates who are at uni away from home.
Yeah, guess we should await the inevitable upgrade in a couple of years.rcignoniheh, which nintendo have you been watching? i would expect a system revision in the first 8 months. 3ds lite, 3ds xl, 3ds pocket, 3ds micro or 3ds car battery edition, just take your pick because as soon as the initial batch is sold through one of those will be following it.
Awesome. I don't plan on using the 3D (well, once in a while to goof off with and try it out, but for the most part I'm in it for the games).blame 3D. I read with 3D off it casn get a good 6 hours.
edit: 6 hours on high brightness.

[QUOTE="LaytonsCat"]Its funny when people say "turn the 3D off" like it isnt one of the reasons the 3DS was created. What about the people want to enjoy there games in 3D???turn the 3D off and you get eight hours though

I guess those people will have to be near a power source when playing huh? Who plays games for 5 hours straight anyways.
People will be fine whatever battery life 3DS and PSP2 has as long they don't go under 2 hours.
[QUOTE="Lucianu"]apparently its 4-5 hours..So does this mean the PSP2 will have 30 minutes - 1 hour battery life?
campzor
"apparently" - I'd rather wait for something at Sony to give out the information rather than some "source".
The battery life on the 3DS is shocking, it's 2011, I expected nuclear batteries by now!
its unbelievable that people believe sony would release a handheld that has less then 2 hours of battery lifecampzorIf Nintendo made a 3 hour battery, people are going to expect the worst from Sony, because they are the ones that gave Nintendo that low standard (the PSP is popular in Japan).
Sounds about right, I don't need more and even if, there will probably be better battaries from thrid party. Anyone knows how much the sleep mode uses?
The recently announced PSP2, codenamed Next Generation Portable, has a battery life of between four and five hours, Eurogamer has been told by a source. So does this mean the PSP2 will have 30 minutes - 1 hour battery life?

Nintendo and their gimmicks, when will they ever stop?PS2_ROCKSI'd say when foo.... um I mean gamers & their money are not so easily parted.
Anywho, that is a pretty short lifespan and if playing without the 3D, doesn't that kinda defeat the main selling point of the gadget ?
I'm more worried about how much the battery life will decrease after charging it a lot. I've had my iPod touch for about a year and the battery life has decreased significantly.
Still, since the 3DS uses an AC adapter, I can play and charge at the same time (unlike my iPod touch because I don't have any USB ports handy while using it in bed, on the couch, etc...).

With 3d on, you are having to power 3 seperate screens as well asall the other things running under the cover of the hardware. This is tough to do cheaply. So Nintendo has to balance the need to have people buy the thing, with the battery power involved. They could have put a much better battery in the 3ds but then the price would keep it from seeing the success of theDS.
