That's JUST the backlight. Consider online capabilities, 3D, what games you're playing, etc. They said about 8 hours on Nintendo's site with 3D, brightness, and online off.enterawesomeNo they didn't.
The Nintendo site specifies 3-5 hours for 3DS games. They've now clarified what that means and stated a 25% difference between 3D on 2D which makes 3DS games 4-6.5 hours battery live with 3D off.

Nintendo's Japanese site had the specs all listed with English translations on the side, I'll try and find the link for you. It said 8 hours with stuff turned off.[QUOTE="shinrabanshou"]No they didn't.[QUOTE="enterawesome"]That's JUST the backlight. Was it this? http://www.nintendo.co.jp/3ds/hardware/spec/index.htmlI read it with Google translate awhile ago and it said 8 hours translated to English, but maybe you're right.

Max brightness: 3 hrs for 3DS games, 5 hrs for DS games.
Min brightness: 5 hrs for 3DS games, 8 hrs for Ds games.
Power save mode works by dynamically adjusting the backlight so it doesn't extend the max battery life on min brightness.
3D off will extend battery life by about 25%.
The battery life will be shorter than those specs if it's a game that communicates heavily.

wow... for some reason(before I was able to see what both handhelds were capable of) I was expecting this gen of handhelds to have greater battery life.[QUOTE="enterawesome"]Was it this? http://www.nintendo.co.jp/3ds/hardware/spec/index.html

That's lame. I hope turning off the wifi stuff saves a lot of battery as some have predicted.Read that it was 4-6 hours, but I'll wait for sony's official announcement. So does anyone know the PSP NGP's battery life?

I really don't get how the iPhone 4 can manage something like 38 hours, so some reports say, but yet these portable gaming devices, that for all intents and purposes aren't doing anything particularly different hardware technology wise, can't even manage 10 hours.

Games drain battery life. A if you turn everything on iPhone 4 (3G, wifi, etc) and play on max settings. A iPhone 4 will only last 2-3 hours playing games.
Just play a game on a laptop and it will drain the battery a lot faster than just browsing the web.

Try playing games on the iPhone/Touch for a long duration, they don't really last long. Infinity Blade is one of the worst culprits, if kills the battery quicker than any other game that I know of.[QUOTE="kuraimen"]This sucks but the PSP2 will probably have 1 hour battery life :PKeiji993You should stop assuming. The OLED saves alot of battery and the PSP2 is big so it's a fact that it's going to have a nice battery. Plus you can change batteries so you can always get a new one or bring a backup with you. OLED doesn't use that much less power overall. In fact under certain circumstances it can actually use more power than LCD.

Unfortunately it has been exactly the opposite. The former two just can't keep pace.

Wow, and I thought 5 hours was for the highest setting. What went wrong??
PSP2 might even match these numbers, looks like Ninty made a lot of sacrifices for 3d...

That's such BS! The PSP2 has a battery of 4-5 hours and its WAYYY more powerful. With equally good lineups, I think the decision just got a little easier for me.
How pathetic. A DS with tacked on PSP specs has worse battery life than the PSP2 with PS3 specs. 3DS is set to outflop the virtual boy. runbleduck
No, just no.

The only way I can figure the PSP2 will actually manage 4-5 hours is if it has a fairly large and heavy battery inside. It wouldn't surprise me if its weight is at least comparable to the iPad... Which does get a bit uncomfortable to hold in your hands after awhile.Man, that means 3D is even more of bigger gimmick than ever.
Mr_BillGates
This. Most will probably just end up using 3D once just to see how it is, but when gaming seriously it will probably end permanently off if this is true. So much for the 3DS, until the 3DS lite...
But why would you play the 3ds without the 3D?Actually it's 8 hours with 3D turned off, even more if Wi-Fi and brightness aren't maxed.

I wonder which one's more likely to be accurate?
I don't see the big deal here, longer is always nicer, but really I don't think sitting for 5 hours playing a handheld is a robalem, or at least in my experience. It jst seems something you'd whip out for 30 minutes to an hour during some down time and move on. If ou're playing at home, their is a charger.
Because even without 3d it's still Nintendo's next generation handheld, with it's own unique library of games? But why would you play the 3ds without the 3D?

And because a feature that can be completely turned off at will isn't exactly going to be required for games, nor can it be a gimmick?
Strange, for some reason I dont care about the batterylife. Whenever the hardware revison is made (and if it even has more batterylife), all I'll have to do is trade in my original for the newer one.
I'm guessing I'm the only one here that isn't away from an outlet.. or civilization for five hours at a time on a regular basis.

Agreed, some people are freaking out as if they cant live without it having power all the time. This isnt a cell phone (which lol, also has bad battery life), you dont need to have it at all hours of the day and night. Who can honestly say that they play their current handheld, whatever it might be, for more than 3 hours at a time?. Some of you do, granted, but if that game playing takes place in the car or house, or starbucks, or libairy, or other public place. They have places for you to plug in your cable and charge the 3DS. (though the car would require an adapter) People really need to calm down about the battery life. If they want longer battery life without turning anything down, then they should expect the 3DS lite to be much much more expensive than it is now, and larger. Since from what I understand, the 3DS has the best battery possible without rising the price too darn much.

Exactly, The rate at which Processing power has moved at, battery can't keep pace.
its like gas in a 6.0L engine.

Exactly, Those days who isn't close to an Outlet. 3 Hours is good enough for me
Then what's the point?with 3D on....with it off it'll get a good 8 hours or so i saw on a report

And Nintendo will witness that 90+% of the 3DS users will prefer playing in 2D with better battery life than 3D with worse battery life... lol :P
[QUOTE="shani_boy101"][QUOTE="CDUB316"]Then what's the point? To play games... That's like buying a HDTV and not using it for HD. It may work just fine, but you're completely missing out on the point of the product.with 3D on....with it off it'll get a good 8 hours or so i saw on a report
