Here you go :Pcharizard1605

I must be missing a key portion of this whole thing because unless China figures out how to hack into military drones using lasers, I don't see how any of that sh1t could help them at all.

So its more difficult for the rest of the world to make camera lenses and lasers, I don't see how that triggers WWIII (or as Treyarch calls it Cold War 2).

...of course this is Call of Duty and I'm wondering why I am set aback by the fiction they have chosen.

No, rare earth elements are used in electronic devices like cellphones. China controls 95% of the world's reserves. In this game's setup, the USA tries to gain control of Chinese reserves, setting off a Cold War 2. The drones have nothing to do with this

So is there any chance this will be on the Vita? Or is that going to be an entirely separate COD game?

Right, so how does a country the size of China somehow accumulate 95% of the worlds recourses of these elements?

It doesn't, it just has control over 95% of the world's KNOWN economically feasible rare earth reserves.

Of course it's not the most realistic scenario. It's a video game. The only thing that matters is that there's a kernel of plausibility to it, which there is.

The premise is that the world has moved away from fossil fuels and now everything incorporates electronics.

Also, they don't declare war, it's a cold war.

I think I'm getting it now - US doesn't produce REEs because of fear of certain metals and what they could be/do (Throium). While China is monopolizing on the REE market and basically hoarding all they acquire.

[QUOTE="001011000101101"]COD story is bad by videogame standards? Really? Only a few games have decent stories. The rest is nothing but crap. There is no such thing as standards in videogame storytelling.. yet.Lucianu

Yes, really.. What the f*ck have you ben playing all these years? Try playing some PC games. Like, say, The Longest Journey and Planescape Torment. The height of video game stories have ben long since reached in the 90s, and have ben going in the gutter since then as technology progresses.

The post I was quoting made it sound like the standards in videogame writing was good in the first place. It's always been crap. As I said, only a few game has decent writing and stories. The rest is nothing but wannabe movies, that fails on every level. And lol at the "play some PC games"-comment. There's just as much crappy writing on PC as there is on consoles. The writing on COD is nothing to write home about, but it's not worse than so many other games.

I am fairly excited by that trailer, Treyarch have always been the more inventive team, seems like Activision give them a bit more freedom. e.g. CoD3 had vehicles, later entries had a bit of customisation etc. Also the story sounds interesting.

Why oh why is that strike force not co-op?

It could be like CoD Garys mod. Hours of fun to be had pratting around with a buddy manshooting things with drones and VTOLs. Silly Treyarch.

I remember once making a list of things that would make a Call of Duty game change and make me excited again a while ago. That list included side missions, branching story decisions, more open ended levels, a focus on narrative, and more unique set pieces.

I don't want to overhype, but this game is pretty much straight from my boner's dream journal in offering all that I would never have imagined would make it. I haven't been excited for a Call of Duty game since MW2.

This also makes me sad, especially since it sounds like Special Ops from MW integrated right into the story. But hopefully they can put that into DLC or something.

I'm interested in this because I liked Black Ops, but lol at the people that weren't interested before suddenly getting excited! I'm hearing nothing about changes to the core gameplay. If COD supposedly got too stale for you then there is no logic in anything about BO2 that has been revealed so far that should interest you. If when gameplay comes out and it appears to play massively differently(which I seriously doubt), get excited. But otherwise, a new setting really shouldn't be enough to turn you if you really were bored of the COD gameplay before.

the worse possible thing they can do is change the gameplay. There is a whole lot of stuff they can innovate on or scrap, without touching the mechanics.

The people who want a complete overhaul are in the minority, trust me. There is popular catch phrase that relates to this.

Oh yeah... 'Hell, it's about time.' ^Fits so many franchises Funny you don't like Half Life then though

Half-Life is trash. The franchise has to be good for me to care in the first place.

Heck Yeah!

At least Half Life 2 still beats Uncharted and *shudders* Portal.

I don't think people are converting, we are just happy that CoD actually might be different this time around. The series has really changed since CoD 4.

It looks better than any of the other recent CODs. That's still not saying very much since the last 4 have been pretty awful for games with the budget and sales they garner. I'm reserving judgement however on how dull the gameplay will be until I see it.

Yeah honestly, it feels good to see a series start to do away with the things everyone complained about most. Nonlinear gameplay? Check. Story focus? Check. New setting? Check. New mechanics? Check.

Its just looking like the biggest change since CoD4 right now.
