Activision has confirmed that the eagerly-awaited Modern Warfare 2 will carry a hefty RRP of £54.99 - and retailers have been warned that other publishers are likely to follow suit.

cant blame them, people will buy it regardless. no matter the price, people will pay anything to play the next installment of CoD, same applies to Halo.

The only difference between CoD4 and CoD:MW2, is the name.

edit: its £45 for the console version if you pre order and £30 for the pc version. i've never paid more than £25 for a pc game but its not that bad compared to the console version price. pc gaming rules

Urgh, this sucks, how come Wii games haven't gone up, yet 360 and PS3 ones "need" to go up. Sounds like BS to me. It's been going on for a few weeks Call of Juarez BiB costs 45 in most places.

Mabye someone should make a chart of game length compared to price. Mabye they will find that as the game gets more expensive it also gets shorter. Who are they trying to kid? They don't need to raise the cost of their games, they are already mega profitable by sheer luck and their determination to make the worst games sell the most. They are pushing it at 40, 55 is a joke. The day I pay more than 40 quid for a game that consists of a simplistic run and gun 5 hour long campagin that can be thrown together in the space of a year complimented witha shallow and incredibly easy multiplayer is the day that I am officiallydeclared insane.

I'm sure the price tag will be £45 - £50 both online and retail for the first 6 months, its not like its a completely new game that took 4 years to develope, Activision loves milking its fans.

much like sony with it's pspgo, they are going to milk the impulsive and rich gamers that MUST have it NOW. and then drop to price after that rush has stopped.

The rest of the EU should buy its games in the UK. They are way cheaper here, we're part of the EU and we're close by. :P

Well the American pricing is $150 so if we're using the 55GBP figure my estimate would be 137.50GBP.

LOL.

Don't think so. I am not and will not ever pay £50+ for a standard edition video game. I'll tell you what i will do though. I'll wait a month, pick it up second hand and while I know I'm being ripped off by there silly second hand pricing at least i know activison wont see a penny of it.

I'd also like to point out COD4 has been in the UK top 10 for months and *still* is. If there trying to tell me they didn't get enough money there dreaming.

So wait, let me get this straight:

-The game will be pushing the gameprices higher.
-It will probably be incomplete (map packs that are made are not included).
-The map packs are being held back by M$.
-It is published by the bastards suing Double Fine.
-It is published by the bastards who want to support in-game advertising.

Is this right?

There are petitions floating around telling Valve to suck it for mentioning L4D2, while we didn't even know their plans for it. And we let this go on? If we don't make a fist now, will we ever? If i were You guys this would be THE game to boycott and write petitions about, not L4D2.

That's the smart thing to do. Last time I checked, I found out that you can save around €82 by buying the PS3 in the United Kingdom instead of elsewhere in the European Union.

Spread the message. :P

thankfully i've got a huge list of games to play .. i'm so far behind current releases

a few years ago i had the time to keep up, and so would preorder every game and play it on release the way things are now, i can buy newer games for cheaper prices, normally brand new, sometimes pre-owned .. plus, i get to play games after the hype has died down

so i'm happy waiting for this game's price to drop to £20-30 before buying it .. £55 is just too much for me

In Denmark its not unusual to find games at £63-64 in the stores, the dualshock 3 controller costs the same.

What annoys me the most about CoD MW2 is the fact that we can expect a 6 hour campaign, a small upgrade in the graphic department and the same multiplayer all over again, and yet they are raising the price.

I really wonder how long this can go on.

and the award for hypocrites of the year goes to activision, they tell sony to drop the price of the ps3, then put the price of there own games up, anyway, as an englishman i can tell you this is going to backfire on them, we are all economists in this country, price is a really big deal, that's why most people here bought 360's, i guarantee they have lost at least half there customers here,i don't care how good the game is, i won't pay more than 40 quid, not in a million years, they tried this with modern warfare, they put the price up to 50 quid, ubisoft followed suit with assassins creed, a couple of months later and games where back down to 40 quid.
