We have already seen less and less and far fewer PC games in the past few years. And the good PC games come to 360 and most of the time to PS3. Look at even the mighty Crytek Engine that runs the ubber ultra owns anything graphics king Crysis games. Well they are making this engine run for home systems. Why because they know PC gaming is close to going totally belly up. I know we have been saying this for years. Look at Nvidia recently there has been rumors of them folding and ATI taking over.

With the inclusion of networks like Onlive that will offer full digital DL and maxed out PC level graphics. And with the next 720 and PS4 offering close to endless storage space and DL content for gaming. PC gaming will be so close to dead in the water it is not even funny.

And look even the holy grail of PC gaming dedicated servers are starting to become no more on PC even.

If you are a PC gamer hang on to your fond memories why you can because you are in your last years of survival:shock:

Doubtful. You could have perfectly equivalent hardware between PCs and consoles, and you'd still have a fundamental schism: PC gamers demand the freedom to change things as they see fit, and console gamers demand the simplicity of being able to drop a game in and have it work with zero effort on their part. The two concepts are fundamentally incompatible.

No one can argue that PC gaming is at it's lowest point sales wise and amount of people gaming on PC ever. And it is only going to continue to drindle down drastically.

By mid way through PS4 and 720 and Onlive. And maybe even a similar service offered by MS and maybe even Sony. I'm sure they want in on the Onlive type service. PC gaming is going to be limping along like a badly wounded dog on life support.

Look at Nvidia recently there are rumors they are looking at options because of struggling sales and feel they are a dying breed in PC GPU market.

You do realise most PC game sells are from digital distribution, and are not counted on sales chart? You really can't judge the user base of PC accurately. Oh, and say hi to Sim 3 and MMO sales number )remember, that's minus DD)

Because whatever next gen consoles come out I have no reason to do any pc gaming. Next gen consoles will have the power of 4 of the most powerful graphics cards in the computer market and the cpu's will be so good that the ai will be identical to human thinking.

They do sell GPUs for none gaming purpose for $$ you know, IIRC the article was about how we don't need super advanced GPUs anymore because developers are not pushing the graphics forward (off the top of my head, could be wrong ) "And look even the holy grail of PC gaming dedicated servers are starting to become no more on PC even." Seriously, how is this beneficial to anyone? The console's evolving backwards, you really want this to happen?

yet another PC bashing thread. Just face the facts. Consoles will never be as powerful as PCs. They may be using the current technology at the time, but as soon as they are released to the public, Intel, AMD, or NVidia has made better parts that completely surpass consoles. PCs will always be one step ahead, thanks to the changing technology, the huge community, and the huge support of games.

Well just go google info on this. I'm to lazy right now I may later.

Here is a quick example though. Look at big games that are coming out later or being cancled on PC. Alan Wake comes to mind.

But here is a good example. Big games like Assasins Creed 2 comes out many months later for PC. Why because PC gaming is taking a major back seat and it is only going to get much worse.

Also look at a game like COD once a dominant PC game. Sales crush the PC on home systems now. And like I said PC games are even moving away from Dedicated servers. It's all about money and PC gaming is not a priority to developers anymore.

Oh no PC gaming is dying.

I will be the first PC gamer to ask the great consoles to show pity on me and take them into their flock, I will obey you Sony and your PS4, just spare my life and spare my mouse and keyboard. You other PC gamers should follow suit and quickly maybe Sony will take pity on us all and not exterminate us like the TC said. :)

No, I refuse to google this. You made the claim, I require you to prove it. I will not gopher evidence for you. If you want to make claims like these, expect me to object and ask for evidence.

Here is a quick example though. Look at big games that are coming out later or being cancled on PC. Alan Wake comes to mind. But here is a good example. None of your analogies necessitate your conclusion. For of all; A) The reason for Alan Wake's cancellation need not be due to lack of power on the platform. It could be to drum up support on the 360. Since Microsoft is actually publishing the game, they're going to make more money off the game if it comes out on the 360. They have a vested interest in having the game stay on that platform. It does not speak to the strength of the PC. B) Assassin's Creed 2's delay may not be due to strength of platform either. For all you know, it could merely have been due to incompetent developers who couldn't get the work done on time. Your conclusion does not follow from this either. C) The mere fact that Call of Duty sold more on consoles, which you would be hard pressed to prove considering that DD sales are not released, does not mean the PC is a weaker platform. You have to take into consideration marginal revenue. Merely because you sell five million games on one platform and a million on another does not mean you came out stronger on the former. It is all about costs associated with putting that game out. Developers earn more from PC titles. D) On dedicated servers; You're absolutely wrong here. The removal of dedicated servers actually costs these developers MORE money. They have to develop their own infrastructure and pay for upkeep. If anything, creating their own server structure is a vote of confidence in the PC.

I really shouldn't bother but.. oh what the hell.

PC gaming is not dying nor will it die when the next generation of consoles arrive. The simple reality is that there's a billion PC's out there and the number of new PC's sold every year surpasses the sales of consoles in their entire life time. Most PC's are not used for gaming of course however as long as the machines are there people are going to play on them, as long as people are playing on them there's a market for game developers, as long as there is a market, there is PC Gaming.

Consoles DO die because of their fixed nature; they get outdated and scrapped in favor of something else. The PC as a platform is fluid and thus doesn't die.

That explains why the PC won't die. Now, I'd love for you to back up just a few of the claims you've been making?! Why are you saying that game sales are down on the PC? Do you have any substantial to back up your claim that nVidia is quitting the consumer level graphics card market? If nVidia was to quit, why do you think this would hurt the PC more than the console makers?

Why are you claiming there's anything such as endless storage space? When I started gaming the idea that you'd ever need a whole megabyte of storage for anything was ludicrous. A year or two later the idea that we'd ever fill out 10 MB hard drive was crazy, then the CD was sooo big that no one would ever need all of it.. then it was the DVD and now developers are filling up blueray disks. The difference is simply that the consoles cannot upgrade effectively after launch, the PC can.

I short; do you have anything to back up your claims?

Also look at a game like COD once a dominant PC game. Sales crush the PC on home systems now. And like I said PC games are even moving away from Dedicated servers. It's all about money and PC gaming is not a priority to developers anymore.

A central part of the problem is that you're looking at the market from a console player's point of view. The PC has more games released than the X360, more games are developed and more games released. You're mentioning titles that are produced with the consoles in mind.. nothing wrong with that mind you, but You don't mention top tier games like Total War, Star Craft 2, Tropico was released on the X360 months after the PC version. Your argument amounts to saying that the X360 is dying because Uncharted hasn't been released on the X360.

Now.. the most profitable game .. ever? World of Warcraft on the PC. The most played game in the world.. ever? Farmville, the facebook app, with over 80 million regular users.. that more than all X360 and PS3 sold (too bad the game sucks but eh..).

Now, is there a problem with piracy on the PC? Yes, no doubt about it, and yes that's going to affect the PC games market. Is the problem ever going to go away, no not entirely but odds are that solutions will be found and an equilibrium reached (I think EA's DLC focused approach is one of the better ideas I've seen when it comes to deal with the problem). But it doesn't mean that PC gaming is dying, it's changing, the consoles will have to go through many of the same changes and challenges when the next generation approaches.

Yeah but this time the console has a number 4 in front of it. Clearly this will do it.

4 times more likely of course.

Oi, more "PC Gaming is dying!!!1!!!!" threads.

For the past decade, every console fanboy has been saying every year that PC Gaming will be done for. Well, its been nearly a decade, and I still see games being released for it.

HonkyTonkGamer

Far fewer and far less and game sales are way down on PC. And I said about mid way through next gen is when the PC will truly being on life support and begging for mercy. 85% of hermits will become Cows or Lemmings next gen they will have no choice.

you are totally right honky tonk gamer, games like Madden not being produced on the PC is supposed to be good according to hermits lol, i mean come on, Pc Gaming is definitely the second rate gaming venue sales wise when compared to consoles. the gap is also beginning to widen.

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"] Fine; prove to me that the total amount of ALL pc gamers now is less than it has been in the past. Also, prove to me that the total amount of ALL pc revenue is lower now than it has been in the past. I'm expecting statistics too. Mazoch

And games like Total War, Star Craft 2, Tropico are starting to become normal for home systems weather it is late or not. You used to never see these kinds of games on home systems. once sacred PC games are becoming normal on Home systems especialy the 360 MS systems.

On the sales side, I can somewhat agree with. The lack of games, no way.

This list doesn't look small, does it?

Have you ever looked at Steam. Steam sales have been doubling for the last few years. Steam, along with other DD services like GOG and Direct2Drive, are becomming the new standards for PC gaming. The only problem is Steam and other DD sites refuse to show sales numbers to the NPD and other sources. The only thing to tell about PC sales is sales in retail, which is going down (the reason why fanboys clainm that PC gaming is dying). Although I don't agree with it, DD is becoming the new standard for PC gaming.

It is growing every year, but the only problem is DD sites do not show sales numbers, which cause misconceptions like this one.

The Lemmings need to organize themselves for some sort of coup d'état, the Cows round here are grazing it seems.

And this brings up another point I had. I can see a service like Steam maybe even MS and Sony cutting deals and having Steam on there next systems to compete with a service like Onlive.

Either way with the home systems truly becoming the all in one multimedia home device PC days are very numbered.

It's really hard for people to accept that digital distribution could sell a lot of games :P

So all of a sudden, having late release day's okay now? You used to never see many 3-d adventure games on PC, now it's getting it, just delayed
