As most of you know Warner Home Video has gone Blu-ray exclusive dealing a huge blow to HD-DVD. It was such a bad news for HD-DVD that they had to cancel they CES conference. I just let this article explain it.

So what is there for HD-DVD after all?? Not really much....just that comercial with that unknow director trying to convince people that HD-DVD is a must. (They not gonna fool us)

So it seams that Blu-ray will take over from DVD after all and turns out that it wasn't such a bad idea from Sony to intagrate Blu-ray into the PS3.

Now I wonder.....will there be an Xbox 360 with a built in HD-DVD drive?? Probably no! What will happen to all those HD-DVD add-on drives for the Xbox 360??

Very soon HD-DVD will stop being and than what will all those blu-ray haters say???

It feels good because I've been saying that from the start and many people especialy here said that I'm an idiot and others who back up Blu-ray are idiots too!! So now Everything has changed.....it's been said that the Blu-ray booth will be the best one at CES and HD-DVD canceled. I think all of us know where this will lead.

So what does that mean to the PS3??? Or the Xbox 360?? I think a battle has been one by Blu-ray is a battle won for PS3 too!!

I'm glad and very happy!! Now PS3 just have to take back it's rightfull place on the top and it all be well!! And I'm sure it will....and I think after that...think twice when you doubth what I say!! Or for that matter....what every PS fan sais!!

Last time I checked, reguler DVD is still outselling both formats. I'm getting good enough picture quality without having to spend extra. So, what was the argument?

So do you actually play any games or are you just some kind of weird corporate cheerleader. I just don't understand why people actually care about the success of a multi-billion dollar corporation. Shut up and go play so games. Or just shut up, either way stop making threads.

Thing is only 30% of North Americans even have a HDTV.

And only 5% of those people who have HDTVs even care about BR, HD DVD.

BR wouldn't be where it is if there wasn't 7 million PS3 owners who were like "Oh, I can do this too, cool."

Cons of HD DVD: Good Resolution, but not as much memory as BR.

Cons of BR: Spider Man 1,2,3 all on separate discs for $30 each. Bundled together as a 3 disc package for $90.

Yeah, no production company will ever make it really worth it to own BR over HD DVD. Sony themselves, will not do use a favor and put 3 of their blockbuster movies on one disc, reducing costs, and then selling it for $50 max.

BR has the advantage, but with BR costing more and you're not getting anything new or extra on your discs, and with games like Lair and Heavenly Sword being the ones exceeding DVD size limitations, I can't say BR has wow'ed me.

Also, I can walk into Best Buy and buy a $250-$350 BR player? If I have a Wii, 360, DS, why on earth would I pay $500 for a BR player that I can get for $250?

That must be the reason the difference is small to me. I have a 32" Samsung and while my Blu-ray movies like Casino Royale look great, the difference isn't big enough for me to shell out an extra $10 to get every movie on blu-ray...

I agree, not every filmed movie on BR will blow your mind. But Pixar movies are worth the extra $10 for blu-ray.

Lisen guys!! I don't think that a blu-ray movie is that expensive...I mean you can get them for $24-$37....DVD's where the same price 3-4 years ago!! Like in Sam Goody there where DVD's for $49.99 and people still got them!! If you go on amazon you can get movies for $16.99 and $19.99! And they also have a special buy one get one free!! What more do you want??? I'm sure that in a years time Blu-ay movies will go down to $19.99-$24.99!!

And you guys should check it out on a 50"+ TV!! I have a 52" and the difference is huge!!

I think HD will sink like a rock in 08. Cancelling the presentation at CES08, the most important event for electronics manufacturers in US, is the closest thing to a declaration of defeat.

Its rightful place at the top?! As far as I'm concerned no system has a "rightful place at the top." And last time I checked both the Wii and 360 are destroying the PS3.

Yeah, I believe it is only a matter of time before HD-DVD is no more, but I think that MS will hopefully realize this and possibly add a Blu-Ray player instead of an HD-DVD player to the 360 ultimate. A Blu-Ray add on would be nice for those who own the other 360 models. Regardless, most people buy gaming systems to game, not to be able to watch movies. By your logic, the Wii should have completely flopped right now considering it doesn't even have a DVD player in it. I'm sorry but, this move by warner will have little effect on the success of the PS3.

Ok...so let's rewind to the 90's and let's see how this argument would go!!

I would say....but DVD looks so much better than VHS. The hater would say...oh well there isn't much of a difference and VHS outsells DVD the last time I checked.

Than I would say but DVD would be good for gameing....it has much more space than a regular CD. Hater would say....that much space is not needed!! CD's are the way too go!!

Hater would say.....besides DVD is so expensive. It's $39.99 a movie...no way in hell I would buy a movie for that. DVD will PHAIL!!!!! FAIL!! PHAIL!!

I would say.....we will see :)

Sounds familiar??? Well that was the case in the 90's. And history has a bad habbit of repeating itself!

Part of it is because people haven't seen a bluray/hddvd on t.v.'s larger t.v.'s.

It's just a matter of time until HDDVD is over. New Line also dropped it as of January 5th, leaving about 2 studios supporting it.
And for those of you saying the difference is marginal, watch it on a 60" TV then you'll see :)

This is another thing that many people deny!! They are saying that we don't need a 50"+ tv.....but we have to move forward don't we? It's like when we went to flat panel....or to color. There where always haters who say that we don't need this and don't need that. Well damn...we don't need video games to survive do we??? We don't need 50thousand dollar cars or $200 jeans so survive do we??? Or we don't need the iPhone. But these things are there to make our lifes better.

And if you don't need these thing than I feel bad for you!! Stay back and use your 5-10 year old technology!! These haters just keep us back in away too! It's sad but true!

But you know what they deserve their 30" TV's I wish that's all they have in their entire life. Don't need HD right??? Well than don't use it...keep your DVD's and be happy with it but don't bash something that's clearly supperior to it!

But you are a 100% right!!! They should see blu-ray on a 50"+ TV and they would see the difference....but many people are too cheap to get a decent TV!

Add in some real surround sound too and then you've got an experience. By real I mean Dolby TrueHD.

Actually a lot of people haven't swtiched at all. Blu-Ray and HD-DVD movie sales are terrible compared to DVD. With all the upscaling DVD players on the market, there's really no need to get Blu-Ray for HD-DVD players. It'll be a long, looooooooooong time before Blu-Ray becomes the #1 format over DVD. I have a PS3 and have watched 300 on Blu-Ray and on my XBox 360 which upscales DVD's to 1080p. There wasn't a huge difference. Yes, I could see a difference, but it wasn't VHS - DVD difference. Not even close.

exactly, and I think eventually when most cable and sattelite companys switch to HD in 2009 i believe, most will switch over and see the difference and that's when they will understand.

[QUOTE="Anti-Gamer"]Who cares about the format war? Majority of america will be enjoying their dvd on hd-tv, so you cows have fun with the expensive blu-ray movies.XanderZane

Not really.....more and more people switch now!! When you see the difference...you don't wanna watch another DVD again!

What t.v. do you have?

Until they make BR movies as cheap as DVD is then the masses would go for the BR. Its only hardcore movie fans who cant wait for the best to go cheap. Averagely a BR movie cost 50 % more compared to Dvd movies. Ordinary people dont study it down to the last pixels, only technofreaks do that.

BR have made a huge step towards winning the battle now they need to convince the ordinary man in the street that BR is better than DVDs or the huge step would be completely meaningless.

Actually BR are coming down in price, some actually the same as their DVD counterparts. I was in Frys the otherday, and I saw 28 weeks later, a relatively new movie, going for $13.50. Thats about the same as paying for a DVD...

For anybody wanting to see the best demo discs for Blu-ray, go to this site it ranks them using various reviews off the internet. Ratattoullie and Cars are on the top. I own Ratattoullie and there is a huge difference between it and regular dvd.

[QUOTE="Gh0st_Of_0nyx"] cows trying to use format wars as an excuse to why the ps3 is winning -PS360FTW-

no all he said was blue ray is beating dvd

stop making up sutff to make cows look bad

You mean beating HD-DVD. Blu-Ray is no where close to beating DVD. Don't believe me. Read this.

http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/news/news.phtml/10549/11573/300-dvd-blu-ray-hddvd-sales.phtml

"300" only sold 6,564 copies on both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD combined on day one of it's release. That was only 5% of the number of copies sold on DVD.

Yeah.. Blu-Ray won, but did they really? No one is buying those movies like they are with DVD. :P

Thats maybe so but here where i am new BR movies are priced 299 NOK and new Dvds priced 179 NOK. I think 1 dollar is 6 NOK so you can do the math on your own. I look at price not quality when i buy movies. I know DVDS are not as good as BR but i dont think the pricegap justify the qualitygap.

Well, I don't have Pirates or any Pixar movie on Blu-Ray and have no plans to purchase them at this time. Yes, I do know that some of the early Blu-Ray movies didn't look as good as some of the others. So I'm sure there are some movies that looked better then "300". I think once the price of Blu-Ray movies come down to DVD level and become more popular it'll probably take off, but right now it's not happening. DVD is still the main choice of consumers because it's cheaper and most consumers don't own HDTV's yet.

The difference is marginal, quit trying to make it look so great. Blu ray is so marginal, it's a major joke...

The quality difference is like the difference between VHS and DVD. Have you ever watche a blu-ray movie on an hdtv...i think not.

Also, what whould of happend if we had given up on dvd because VHS was selling better.
