Yes. The problem does not lie within the words 'Damage Control' but within the contentless post aspect.
I think it's considered the same as replying to a post with simply 'lol' or ':lol:' or ':|' or even 'QFT' or some such.

"Damage Control" is a strategy used to mitigate / lessen the impact of negative information upon the affected party.
"/thread" refers to a scripting prompt which ends a string of code. Sometimes, it's also a command that ends a game session or other action in video games using a keyboard interface--i.e. "/logout", etc. In short, it implies that the user has made his point and is now "leaving the thread".
Why this all of a sudden? You cannot improve the quality of a board which only receives news every other month, and major changes every 5 years. Sweep away too many leaves, and you'll find that You don't HAVE a front yard anymore
