The game is a joke, thats the catch.

So that makes it ok? The game is supposed to suck. Got it. So I should like it because it's supposed to suck and succeeds? And you imply I'm stupid...
for a game that does so much wrong, it also successfully does something other games don't even attempt to do. Even though the gameplay is crap, it's like a modern day shenmue.
seemless open world to gather clues, talk to the towns people, do sidequests that actually add to the main story's plot, dungeon type levels, and a flawless 24 hour time system. You can only visit shops, do missions, or find people at their homes on certain days. You can camp someone who works at a local store, watch them lock up and get in their car, follow them in their car to their house, and then proceed to go and talk to them at their house. It's how EVERY NPC functions in the game. The world is truly life-like.It's like a B movie popcorn flick. the gameplay is so bad, but everything about the game is so intruiging that it's hard to put down (well...not so much in your case). The story is creepy, yet hilarious much like David Lynch's "Twin Peaks". With the exception of that TV series, it has a truly unique story line and will keep you guessing until the end. It does a very good job of not leaving any plot holes behind too. Games like LA Noire would have been so much better if they offered the type of seemless world that deadly premonition offers.
It's seriously not a big deal that you think it's the worst game you've played this gen, because many people will think the same thing. The only reasons I'm giving you my insight to why the game is incredible is just so you can understand why people actually enjoy this game.
Hey I can respect that. There is no way I could see myself sitting through that combat to get to that point, but I understand what you are telling me. For me, stories are an added bonus. If I can't enjoy the gameplay I won't enjoy the game. I don't even really watch TV, movies, or read fiction because stories don't really mean anything to me. Of course there are some exceptions but in general.
I do agree with you that the seamless world and schedule done the way you described would have helped LA NOIRE, and Heavy Rain. Neither of those games come close to being exceptional in my book but the gameplay to me was at least solid enough compared to DP that I saw the endings. Well maybe not Heavy Rain ;)
