besides them having modern warfare....who cares??ktrotter11
They are the largest publisher in the world... Losing them would be like a kick in the balls to Sony.
But as people have said, I doubt Activision will actually follow through.

If they do that I'm selling my X360 and going 100% PS3. Don't want to see another bloody guitar hero.
Well it is about time the system had a price cut, a serious one at that. £299 is far too much, even £50 cut is too little right now, it should cost £199 at this time.

They are not the largest as long as I know. Sony might get a kick in the balls, but Acitivsion loose big time. Because surely, they are not the only gamingcompany in the world,
[QUOTE="CreepyBacon"]Oh good god i forgot Guitar hero was an activision game good point there, I want it to happen now!! They even stated they are their own 'platform' now. so maybe nin/m$/sony will kick them out. I doubt they want to sell a competing platform. If they do that I'm selling my X360 and going 100% PS3. Don't want to see another bloody guitar hero.

"They have to cut the price, because if they don't, the attach rates [the number of games each console owner buys] are likely to slow. If we are being realistic, we might have to stop supporting Sony."
I think it just comes down to Activision making bad games for the PS3 which no one wants to buy. Other 3rd party devs dont seem to have this issue, lets take a look at 2008's software numbers:
EA: "the PS3 is EA's largest source of income right now, and has been since the beginning of 2008."LINK
Take-Two: "Take-Two list the PlayStation 3 as its biggest revenue generator on the publishing side, with 35% of the quarterly take."LINK
Ubisoft: "So far for the fiscal year of 2008, 21% of the publisher's sales have come from the PS3. Of the three home consoles, that is the largest percent"LINK
Looks like good games = sales.

They are the largest. But there only good games are the COD franchise and whatever Blizzard comes up with. The rest of there stuff is garbage that sells to uninformed folks that buy because they see the name tony hawk or something on the cover. And goldfish, can't forget them. SOMEONE has to be buying all these guitar hero games despite them all being the same.

Well it's not that i want to argue your points but what good games did ubisoft make in 08? I suppose you could say POP but it was rather meh compared to the previous ones.
[QUOTE="Floppy_Jim"][QUOTE="IronBass"] I think it's nothing more than that. Probably they want less licensing fees or something.CwlHeddwyn
Agreed, I can't imagine them isolating a 23+ million install base. If they didn't stop supporting Sony in 2007, I doubt they'll do it now.
yeah this is all hot hair. the ps3 install base is far too big to ignore. yes ps3 is less profitable than the xbox 360 to make games for but they'd lose a lot by not supporting the ps3.Wait a minute, so what if the PS3 has a large install base if no one is buying games for the system. If you are spending more than you are making it's a fairly easy decision to make. It would also free up developers and money to focus on other consoles that actually make them money.
I have said this before, if Sony can't sell their first party exclusives on their console then how the hell are third party developers going to? I started a thread asking this last week (about the low sales of Killzone 2) and was accussed of being a fanboy. Well, here is a pretty big company flat out telling EVERYONE that they aren't making money on the PS3. Also interesting to note that the PS3 has less RAM available..."but teh cellzzz and BLue-Rayz"
Well, this guy, Bobby Kotick is probably a Halo worshipping, Bill Gates wannabe. That is the only real explanation for such comments.

The Call of Duty games sold millions on the PS3 :? And all of Sony's major games seem to sell way past a million, which is better than average, so I have to wonder where you're getting all this from.[QUOTE="kingdomcome242"]
Thats wats great about the 360. You are so spoiled its crazy
I know as a xbox 360 user I am getting the best multiplat possible ( or even better than ps3)
I know as a xbox 360 user I am getting the best online play possible
I know as a xbox 360 user I am getting the most demo's and arcade games and getting them the earliest possibleI dont have to worry about crap like activision not supporting my ****** console or Valve not supporting it... Those are some of the greatest devs out there
-Snooze-
As a PS3 owner i know im actually getting exclusives. Not watered down PC ports.
LOL like what?
In present, you boycott Activision. In future, Activision boycott you! :o
Saves the cows a lot of trouble, now how about us shermits!?
Could that mean the next CoD (not MW2), might not come to the ps3?
And please stop with the idiotic "it wont happen; they care too much about money" as a way of defending Sony. Every company cares about money, that's how it works.

How... is... this an argument supporting your question not being answered by the money route?
Didn't CoD 4 sell like 5 million on PS3? The guy is simply blowing smoke. He wants Sony to sell more PS3's probly even more then Sony. That's more money in his pocket.
So give me one good reason why they wont go PS3, because AFAIK, the PS3 has bought them in a lot of money...Could that mean the next CoD (not MW2), might not come to the ps3?

I can believe that anyone actually thinks this is going to happen. He is simply blowing smoke to be subtle to sony about dropping the price. If ActivisionsupportedPs3 in 2007, then they will surelysupportPS3 in 2009 and beyond. This is the truth and don't let any fanboy tell you other wise.
LOL Good riddance! I wonder where would they lose more money if porting the game to PS3 or losing the PS3 install base that would buy the game. Anyways, they are talking BS.Odrec
I agree that they're probably just rattling Sony's cage. But to have this come from arguably the biggest third party publisher in the industry is telling. And Kotick mentions something the other publishers don't: context.
Sales are great when talking to your constituency on a financial call, but put the sales in conext with the money invested in development and you have a different picture.
LOL!
I wonder what Activision will think when COD: MW2 comes out and they sell millions of copies on the ps3 system. Then..WILL THEY STOP SUPPORTING PS3???
HAHA...
I thought the title was going to say "Activision thinks of nothing but Murder", man i stop reading the onion so much
THis is just an example of a developer petitioning for Sony to drop the price of the PS3. That is what all their whining really boils down too. Since we know Sony will very likely drop the PS3 price $100 some time before this year is over (probably closer to fall/holiday season to maximize the benefit), this is all just huffing and puffing.
Since we know Sony will very likely drop the PS3 price $100 some time before this year is over ZIMdoomDo we "know" that?
lol, that guy is funny. Threating to stop supporting Sony. I'd honestly like to see it. Infact, go do it. You'll cut your sales in half basically. Try explaining that to your stock holders. they smell blood in the water and are trying to force Sony to bend to their will. I'm sure Sony is laughing right now.darthogre
Only 8% of Activision's revenue comes from the PS3. They could easily do what they threaten to do and might actually end up ahead by doing so (assuming cost is disproportionately high to support PS3 development, which seems a safe assumption).

Well we are moving into the realms of conjecture here but i can see what you are saying, Valve say this openly. The PS3 needs a big investment just to do on the same level as the 360. I think that's the PS3's biggest weakness at this point in terms of the development side. People look at their install base, look at their own resources and then look at their PS3 develpmet costs. Sometimes the arithmetic might make sense without sony in the equation. Please Log In to post.
