I don't know what is the real reason behind this threat because.

1- what if the price cut didn't sell the console?

Sony losing their business for the sake of a price cut threat :?

2- 40k-50k monthly difference in NA sales between the 360 and PS3 is not gonna make Sony cut the price anytime soon.

3- $100 price cut gonna upset the Blu-ray player market, Samsung and other companies gonna go crazy because the PS3 would be the cheapest Blu-Ray player and the Blu-ray players on the market would have lower sales because of the that.

4- $50 is the most plausible price cut and I think Sony going to announce it later this year regardless of what pressure they are in.

Tragic_Kingdom7

Sony needs to cut it more than 50$. They need a stronger price cut than that. 100$ would be way better.

I know, in a matter of fact Sony needs a $150 to be more aggresive but thats wishful thinking, I think $50 is the price.

Unless they release a slim line PS3, that would be another story.

No one tries to beat the PS3 in blueray for price.

It out performs some of even the $1k players.

But some people don't care so, meh.

Same for every company ever, really.

What does Sony actually have to do to convince you that they make games? Have execs running around like KAZ actually making the game?

At this point, im probably just going to rent a PS3 for GOW3. No reason to actually buy one. Once ACTIVISION drops them, you'll see others following the Big Dog's lead. The PS3 was a total failure from start to finish. Maybe next time, Sony...

The only thing PS3 is good for is a few exclusives... other than that all the other games are superior on 360.

Sony during the PS2 era would have handled the situation much differently.

PS2 Sony - " I find your lack of faith..... disturbing."

PS3 Sony - "C'mon Activision, you wouldn't do that to poor old Gily! I need this!"

Well, this should shut up all the fanboys that believe Sony is catching up to MS. This is also a wake-up call to all the people that believe sales don't matter. Maybe you'll think about that some more while you're not playing the next COD, and support a company that is actually doing good.

Why is it only the fanboys that are the ones who believe this? The reason people say that they don't matter is because to them personally it doesn't stop them from buying a game. All this demonstrated is how much Activision likes money. I don't know whether it's a good thing or bad thing that they pressured Sony, but it was not a considerate thing to do at all when they know the state the PS3 is in. Sony WANTS to lower the price, and I wouldn't be surprised if they're planning to, but these aren't the best times, especially when the company is in the red.

Sony Responds to Activision's Threats to Ditch Playstation:

The folks at Playstation, though, don't seem fazed.

"PlayStation has tremendous momentum coming out of E3, and we are seeing positive growth with more than 350 titles slated to hit across all our platforms, including many anticipated games from our publishing partners," said Playstation spokesman Patrick Seybold. "We enjoy healthy business relationships with and greatly value our publishing partners and are working closely with them to deliver the best entertainment experience."

What an empty threat. This will obviously never happen. Activision knows the PS3 makes them money, but they'll say anything to force Sony to drop the price of the PS3.

gensigns

Yup, just like EA caved and supported the Dreamcast... oh wait!!!

EA never supported Dreamcast because of the failure that was Saturn and Sega dropped support for it. EA wouldn't support Dreamcast unless they sold 10 million consoles which never happened before Sega finally dropped it. There was one thing that everyone knew back then: without EA's support your console would fail. The same has never been said of Activision.

How come cows always defend sony..? i mean yea, we are fan boys and all, but activision is just tryign to put pressure on $ony to drop teh price of teh over price machine and save some money in the development of games. Is that bad? sony milks so much, and still cows love them. I dont get it. ah and teh crappy part about sony is that when business goes haywire, first ppl they start laying off are americans.

azell07
IMO PS3 is worth every penny for what you get. Sony is already loosing billions off the console. What do you exspect them to do keep dropping prices and keep taking losses? How long do you think they will last like that? I'd rather them start turning profits before I see them drop the price. I would hate to see what the gaming industry would become if Microsoft was the only HD console on the market.

Yeah, with yearly rehashes. I only like the IW-developed COD games, Guitar Hero sucks compared to Rock Band, Tony Hawk is so bad Activison had to make a gimmicky sensor board just to keep the franchise alive, Activison is doing its best to ruin Brutal Legend, and chances are they'll ruin Blizzard during the next decade.

Call of Duty series, Guitar Hero series, Tony Hawk series, World of Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, Doom 3, Prototype, Spider-Man games, etc.

You can make a lot of arguments against Activision right now, but acting like they have no great games and no games that are bestsellers is hysterically ignorant. They're the biggest 3rd-party publisher in the world for a reason.

LOL at the people saying it's just a bluff orgood riddance to Activision.

Yes it probably is a bluff to get lower royality fee deals out of Sony or a reduced price console.

BUT

If it isn't, What Sony gonna do..... Sweet nothing, Y'all saying Activision can't ignore 25milllion+ Sony owners, well I'm sure SEGA and Nintendo (let's remember the biggest gamecompaniesin their time)fans thought thesame back in the dayand yet they got screwed over when the time came by developers. It's not the developers fault 25million people bought a duff console.

If Activision leaves Sony will be the hardest hit and even if Activision does regret the decision they can come back at any time, Sony need's games to sell it's console and Activision has the biggest franchises currently it don't matter what us nerds say on SW about Activision, money talks in reality and money is doing the talking for them their numbers aint lying.

Sony is the weakest link inthe equation Activision has the power to walk away and come back at any time. If Activision goes that's Valve and themtwo of the biggestand most respected publishers walked away. How long before the smaller companies follow suit? Not very I wouldguess.

Sony Fans need to wake up and stop defending the indefensible stop making excuses for sony and sheilding them from the real world.

Look it hasn't or won't help them so far has it, they need to listen to companies criticism the days of forcing a duff product on people and expecting them to put up with it like Sony has done for years won't wash in the new economic dawn that is breaking.

well they might do it. First of all a company is all about making money. I heard developing a game for the ps3 is more than 30 million. The only way to make that kind of money back is to sell a boat load of copies. Its cheaper and easier to dev for the 360 and the user base is alot larger which all means that their making that much more profit. If they stoped making games for the ps3 and make it only for the 360 then they would be saving money on dev costs plus more people will buy the 360 version to cover up the loss of sales of the ps3 version. The activision boss is a piece of sh$$t and all he cares about is the $$. But I dont think he has what it takes to pull support for the ps3. He really doesn't have the balls. But i do agree with him that sony needs to drop the price of the ps3. alot of people like me are waiting to buy one.

I was looking at another thread regarding this that got locked and people were throwing this chart around.

Their argument essentially was Activision would be giving up 241 million potential sales leaving the PS3, making the decision stupid. I think people really aren't reading into this enough and are only interested in looking a what this means on the surface.

What people aren't looking at is what it took to get that 241 million. PS3 is the most difficult to develop for platform, it takes the most time and effort out of any other platform out right now. Yet for all this considerable effort, twice as much according to some developers, it made them the least amount of money than any other current gen console platform.

PS3 costs the most to work on and makes the least, we have no idea how much extra time and money went into the PS3 version of games as opposed to the 360. That time and resources could be reallocated to platforms that would make Activision more money for their investment as opposed to the PS3.

I wonder if Sony will come up with a response

They already did, "PlayStation has tremendous momentum coming out of E3, and we are seeing positive growth with more than 350 titles slated to hit across all our platforms, including many anticipated games from our publishing partners. We enjoy healthy business relationships with and greatly value our publishing partners and are working closely with them to deliver the best entertainment experience."

you hve no idea what you're talking about you should just be quiet.
