Am I dumb for wanting an Xbox One just for Halo 5/Master Chief Collection

Currently have a gaming PC with the specs in my sig. I had a 970 for almost a year and sold it and went back to my old 7850. Truthfully I don't game that much any more.

Now Halo is the only console game I can sink hundreds of hours into without getting bored. I spent north of 600 hours in Halo 3 and only stopped playing because of Halo Reach and then moved to Halo 4. Halo 4 was a disappointment so I sold my Xbox 360 in mid 2013.

I feel purchasing an Xbox One would be extremely redundant with my gaming PC but I can't help but feel the Halo call. I can literally hear the game calling me in my sleep.

In Canada the Halo 5 bundle custom edition is 549$. I could almost buy a 980 at that price or wait for Pascal.

I always made fun of gamers who bought a system for one game but I'm slowly becoming what I always hated.

Nah, many will do the same and even if you end up buying for one game you'll likely find others both released and yet to release games worth playing.

If you will get a lot of use out of Halo then do it. You will find other games you want.

Nope, I´m pretty much in the same boat as you are, hell, I want a WiiU just to play Mario Maker and I think I have found one for cheap in my home town.

Can you afford it? Then yes. Go for it.

Is cost an issue? Is it making you feel financially inconvenienced just entertaining the thought of buying a system for one game? Then i'd skip it all together.

I definitely can afford it but 600$ for one game seems stupid. I'm also afraid I'll get bored after just a few hours. Say 50hrs or so. If I do get bored, My Xbox One will be a 600$ paperweight. I'll probably try to sell it but still. Betting a whole system on one game seems awfully risky.

No, that's not dumb, that's several games right there, plus once you have an Xbox One you'll probably be wanting to try other exclusives as well, at some point anyways.

It's still six games (admittedly all Halo), and who is to say you won't find something else to your liking on it too?

You should find a way to play the game first to make sure it's all you think it's going to be, but 1 game is really all you need to justify a console purchase. It just needs to be a really, really good game.

I'm in Canada. The Xbox One Halo 5 Edition is 549$+tx which is 630$ after taxes. If Canadians get lucky during the holidays, we may see a 50$ price cut which would still put it at 580$.

I'm considering buying it second-hand but the huge problem is that I wouldn't be able to get a refund if I end up not liking it. If I buy it from a retailer I'd have a 30 days return window.

That makes it a bit more tentative, yeah. I say you should then first wait to see if Halo 5 is going to be as good as they say it will be (smart to do this in any case). Whereas chances of it happening are low, who knows if it might be another MCC-esque disaster in the making? That looked pretty awesome in the run up to its release too.

@Juub1990: Nothing's wrong with it. At least for me. I even just bought Final Fantasy Type 0 for the Dota 2 Courier and Wards.

P.S. As long as you won't regret it later (like for the lack of funds as a result), then all's well, ends well.

Halo MCC is amazing I never get bored of it. If you can afford it, do it IMO.

I'm definitely waiting it's out before buying it but that custom Halo Xbox One looks awesome. I hope there are some left when it releases.

At that point I may as well buy the Halo Master Chief Collection bundle for 449$ and add Halo 5 as a physical copy on top. It would be a bit cheaper. I would have no custom Xbox One but I would have a physical copy of Halo 5. That custom Xbox looks more appealing though. It'll be harder to find in the long run than a physical copy of Halo 5.

My friend who lives the closest to me has a PS4. Another good buddy of mine has an Xbox One but is a COD/BF addict and loathes Halo. That's not an option.

No you're not crazy. It's the main reason I got mine, other than current and upcoming exclusives. Microsoft knows that Halo and Gears of War are legit classics so they updated them for the modern age as many fans would have wished. Thus, you're not crazy.

That card outperform the Xbone tho.

If you get enough play out of them, I really don't see a problem. Halo games have longevity, so go nuts.

Oh it does. It even outperforms a PS4 with a mild overclock. Halo MCC is 60fps at 1080p for the most part and Halo 5 is a steady 60fps with a dynamic resolution. I can deal with that considering it's Halo and its art style is something I love.

I would never ever go back to playing at 720p and 30fps. Makes my eyes bleed. Well except for Persona 4 Golden I'm playing right now. Couldn't even go back to playing my beloved Majora's Mask on Pj64. Frame rate was too dreadful.

If they do it for you, then, nope, I don't see a problem with it.

Not really. You want to play an entire collection (Halo 1+2+3+4 +ODST [I think it's included through free DLC? Someone please clarify this one.] + Halo 5) which is available on the XB1.

That's 5 full games (plus whatever extra DLC the Halo Collection has). I'd say that's more than reason enough. Then surely one or two XB1 exclusives will be in your interest.

Do it, if you have the money. Perhaps wait for Black Friday (if you country has it) to get a nice deal. I've hear some rumours of an XB1 with the Halo Collection + Halo 5 for 399$.

I'm not gonna lie, that console looks really cool, despite I got the Advanced Warfare Xbox One edition last year, if I could replace my Advanced Warfare Xbox One with ease, I totally do it. This bundle is a good start if your looking for something like that and it's also a 1TB.

That said, it also appears as though all bundles at Gamestop/EB Games from now on will only feature physical copies of games, so maybe go to your nearest store and clarify with them? You may still be able to get that bundle with a physical copy of the game.

Buy it, the x1 gives you the best bang for you money in terms of its offering that you can't find anywhere else. There will be nothing like halo 5 on the dust station, PC or anywhere else, pull the trigger and stop playing around.

Thanks for the info. We don't have Gamestop in Canada. I just called EBgames and they don't do that. Apparently it's just in the US.

I remember them saying that for the CE, yeah. Idk if that will be extended to the bundle, since bundles with digital copies of the game are fairly commonplace, and an accepted practice.

Not at all. I've considered an XB1 for Halo and little else before. Personally the PS4 trumps the XB1, so I'd get that if I were to get either, but that doesn't mean I haven't considered the XB1.
