Anyone who cares about graphics, should not play on an LCD monitor or tv.

[QUOTE="ThePlothole"]The trouble with playing games on a plasma is that the fixed HUD elements significantly increase the risk of burn-in. Newer plasmas may be more resistant to this, but they still aren't completely immune.reachrocksman
I play Halo: Reach everday for 3 hour straight marathons, no BS. No "burn-in" Its really a thing of the past, atleast for Panasonic plasmas.

What if I'm the kind of guy that tends to not turn off my PC? What about 6 hour WoW raids? Does plasma handle all day WoW marathons (it's that addicting)? Not trying to argue with you, I'm being sincere.

These issues are very noticeable but when LCDs are being sold now days for around $150 they are not such bad TVs as long as you remember to turn the brightness up and not expect too much. Personally I'm fine with it and that isn't a graphics issue but I get your point. I actually will play on anything available to me even an SD TV if that's all that's available.

[QUOTE="reachrocksman"][QUOTE="NVIDIATI"] Actually the 9G Kuro has a black level of 0.001 fL (maybe less as the measuring tool could only go to 0.001). Almost absolute.

NVIDIATI

thank you ;)

Last thing I wanted to do was help you in anyway.... Though its also sad some of the claims being made in this thread.

Ok it got one thing as good as crt but I bot this back in 2002 and it still owns. There is no native rez so the picture looks good at 720/1080p or beyond min 80hz refresh rate even at max rez. His great plasma can't do that vs my old crt. If your watching movies then plama is great but for games I will stick with my crt.

:? That's only during break-in. Its pretty much impossible to have brun-in after that time period as the screen has ways to shift pixels.

Yeah the FW is what every CRT should be. Though refresh rate isn't exactly a problem on plasma. Gaming on a Kuro is great.

Wooah,wow,wow,wooooooooooooooah slow down here people...

Did I just hear people saying CRT's can run 1080p?

I thought CRTs were limited to 640x480 or 576p and some weird 2006/7 ones were 1080i or something...

I've always assumed that most people fascinated with their TV/Monitor displays are only slightly less full of it that audiophiles that buy Monster cables over something useful.

There's just no way people get so up in arms over how black one TV's blacks are over another.

I guess if you don't know how to accurately adjust your black levels, I can see how someone would make a statement like that. On the contrary, I do know how to tweak them, and enjoy my gaming LCD experience.

Its $1800 at Best Buy for a 50inch VT20 (same as VT25 just best buy model) + 2 3D glasses + Panasonic 3D bluray player + exclusive Avatar 3D bluray (sells for a lot on ebay).

Also the TV market is not like the computer market. The 9G Elite Kuro launched in 2008 and is still the best TV.

No bro my crt does 2304x1440 @ 80hz beyond 1080p 24/25/30/50/60 and long before hdtv. I know that crt is seen as old out dated tech but so far for playing pc games it is still the best picture wise. The problem with my crt is it is like 100lbs and it uses more power and it is bulky. For many they would rather take a cut in picture quality than the negatives of the crt. This goes with out saying but even a good plasma has to be calibrated to get a good picture.

I've been reading 1000s of posts across the webs, read reviews and watched some vids.

It seems the Sony GDM is praised more than any modern monitor...

My mind is destroyed, I have a serious headache... My head hasn't hurt so much since I tried to compute the fact that there are 100 billion galaxies with 100 billion stars giving us like 51³² stars in the known universe or that a lightyear is 9 billion KM and telescopes can spot objects trillions of light years away. OR that a HYPERNOVA is billions of times more powerful than a supernova which was supposed to be a billion times more powerful than anything else.

[QUOTE="reachrocksman"]Yes, LCD does look good in bright scenes, but they have poor black levels, which greatly reduces contrast. This is also a reason it hard to see in pitch dark levels in games, such as Resident Evil. Plasma and CRT have contrast that murders lcd. I play Crysis maxed, and refuse to use an lcd monitor, that gives me motion blur and poor black levels. CRT is out though, no high resolution offerings, I own a Panasonic VT25 plasma. It is rated the best looking plasma ever, other than a Pioneer Kuro. The blacks are very inky, and thus offers much more contrast than lcd. Until OLED comes out, I will stick to plasma, and reccomend that you do too.Plagueless
And LED displays destroy plasma.

somebody got suckered into paying more for an inferior technology.

It is indeed. About 0 in total since I'm back in school at the age of 27 :?

On topic: I don't really see a big problem with LCDs. I'd rather spend money on other minor stuff like an SSD or something.

Haha, ya seriously. :P

Greatest monitor ill ever use for quite some time, and finding them somewhere for $20 now is incredible, when they used to be over $1000!

I would buy them all and sell them on ebay 400 bucks easy. My friend sold it to me for $500 back in like 2003 or 4 and now wants to buy it back. He was going to give me a dell 24inch lcd and 100 bucks. I looked and the picture and said no deal. He let me use the lcd for a week and i tried to calibrate it but the black and contrast plus temp was horrible. The refresh rate was pretty good that surprised me lcd's came a long way in that dept. I just got spoiled by gaming on crt all these years but I hope to get a good lcd for cheap in the next 2 years.

I'm not trading my LCD for the risk of getting second-degree burns from playing too long near a Plasma TV! I had a Plasma TV at the living room (56"), and I traded it recently for an LCD of equal size -- there is a difference, but nothing noticeable enough (specially since I can darken the room completely) to make having a Plasma worth it (Energy cost, lower durability, heat). LCD is fine for gaming (great actually) -- and, on a sidenote, all major gaming events (GSL, MGL, yadda yadda) use LCD (not that it matters much, just an interesting fact). It certainly isn't different enough from a Plasma TV for you to state that those who care about graphics don't play on an LCD screen.

I like my TV to be mounted on a wall, light in weight, low in power consumption, and not have burn-ins. Plasma is a no go unless all you do is watch movies on them. Also, the limitation of 4:4:4 on plasma screens makes them the worse choice for monitor replacements.

my CRT only has slighty better blacks than my LED backlit monitor. And the led backlit doesnt weigh 50+lbs. But what in the world are you talking about with CRTs not having any high res offerings? ive seen CRTs with a res of2048x1536

The only downside is that CRT monitors have been fazed out and the largest ones were only around 20inches and weighed 100 pounds.

Also Plasma TVs only come in large sizes. I need a smaller screen around 24 to 28 inches. I would also like at least 1920x1200 resolution.

The larger the screen the worst the pixel pitch is too.

If you know what crt you want you can get a good one on the cheap.

Do they sell 24-28 inch CRT monitors with at least 1920x1200 res and that are practically new?

The largest CRT I saw was around 20-22 and weighed too much and used too much power.

It also had been used for many years and was probably on it's last legs.

LCD: Viewing angle disaster. Most Popular. Energy efficient.

CRT: Radiation. Ugly. Average person would think it is outdated and inferior just because of the look, although they'd be ignorant. Weighs a ton. Bulky. Wastes more power.

Plasma: Burn in.

Again, burn in is not a problem anymore. Image retention only lasts for the first 100 hours of break-in.
