Apple announces iPad 3(HD)

Screen resolution is total overkill as I expected. SD media, comics and old apps will look like turdburgers. Glad I have my ipad 2, its nicely balanced and still has amazing graphics with a formidable baterry life.tomarlyn

The problem is going to be the performance, my rig suffers while playing something like ME2 on high (I get 60 FPS at 1080p with drops to the lower 40's on some cutscenes) and I bet it's more powerful than the iPad 3. How are they going to manage to run something like that on that res on a mobile device?

So Apple can get a 10 Hour battery life out of this thing but Nintendo and Sony can't get more than 5 hours of their weaker hardware handhelds?ShadowDeathX

I haven't even watched the announcement I'm jusr going off details, I'm not sure what you're trying to say about performance. I have games that are practically Vita quality and run smooth as butter.tomarlyn

wouldnt mind you going extinct so you could give us humans some peace.

So I can game on the iPad 3 at a higher resolution than current generation console games. Next gen needs to be 1080p or bust.

Twice the graphics horsepower (though more like 2.5x), but Tegra 3 is a quad ARM part, and unless Apple did a **** load of tinkering and building their own custom ARM processing core, the A5X is going to hang behind Tegra 3 by quite a margin unless it has a very high clock speed.

Also the PSVita sports a quad ARM (no clue on clock speed) and a quad core SGX543MP4+ GPU (no clue on clock either), so the Vita still looks to maintain a great CPU advantage but about equal graphics horsepower to the "iPad 3".

Meh, another year, another iProduct.

I would think about it for $300. Apple really needs a 7" tablet at a sane price point.

So how much memory does it have?

Quite a lot I expect, in order to actually do something worthwhile with those resolutions.

My LG Optimus 2X smartphone can handle 1080p video playback so I wonder what exactly this tablet needs these resolutions for.... Certainly not to play Angry Birds on your next gen TV.

Wasn't a huge fan of the iPad to start the day and still am not post iPad announcement. Only two distinct upgrades that catch my eye: 1) A5X processor, which we'll see how much power it produces when benchmarked and 2) the retina display, although the resolution is overkill IMO. There isn't a discernible difference at that size but if you can, why not? At least Apple did address their relatively mediocre displays in both the iPad and iPad 2. But the price is still ghastly and the Nazi level of control Apple exercises over apps and media still kills any deal for me.

Cool for the sheeple that will stand in line for the privilege of paying Apple $699 for the latest and greatest. I'm good though, my Galaxy Tab does everything, an iTampon does, and sure didn't cost $699.

There were rumours too of dropping the traditional apple connection port for a different one. But I haven't heard anything since about it

Yes, really. For a lot of multimedia work, I would much prefer a desktop/ipad setup vs a desktop/laptop setup. The ipad offers extreme portability. We'll likely be seeing some full featured photoshop/corel paint/video editing on this ipad. All that at 1lb?!!! My laptop is 7lbs. It is a hassle to carry around. Now, I've been vocal against apple--I still am in a few ways, but the claim of creating a product that doesn't feel like a product is a very realistic statement.

It does look impressive, but I'm not into the tablets though I would never consider getting a iPad.
