That makes Vita looks like NES really, i wont touch Vita now

All my money will be gathered towards getting that system

loosingENDS

Anything to bash the Sony camp eh?

Why buy this when a new one will be out next year or soon enough anyway

Why would i ever go with lower resolution system ?

Isnt resolution the most important thing in graphics as hermits here say all the time ?

Vita looks like a bad joke right now

So why bother with a 360 when PC has everything better?

The screen is going to look amazing, everything else, Not so much. How long can Apple keep the same old tired looking IOS, I'd go killing myself with that level of customization ( none ) .

I never understood why they need to put so much power into a tablet. Touch controls have, and always will suck for any kind of games. Instead, they should have focused on making the outdated iOS better for what people use a tablet for (I would give examples but I really have no idea why people buy tablets)

The games are probably going to run at 10 FPS, even most PC's chug while running games beyond 1080p.

KillerJuan77
Your forgetting ipad games are now where near modern pc games like crysis 2 and battlefield 3 in complexity of the graphics.

I mean that the tablet is the evolution of the laptop.

AdrianWerner

Ugh..not really and it's unlikely to replace laptops. Hybrids are propably the real future though.

I agree especially with Microsoft pushing a touch friendly interface big time for windows 8.

"Twice as powerful as Nvidia's Tegra 3"

Twice the graphics horsepower (though more like 2.5x), but Tegra 3 is a quad ARM part, and unless Apple did a **** load of tinkering and building their own custom ARM processing core, the A5X is going to hang behind Tegra 3 by quite a margin unless it has a very high clock speed.

Also the PSVita sports a quad ARM (no clue on clock speed) and a quad core SGX543MP4+ GPU (no clue on clock either), so the Vita still looks to maintain a great CPU advantage but about equal graphics horsepower to the "iPad 3".

PC_Otter

Also the vita native resolution is a sixth of the ipad 3 so it doesn't need nearly as much gpu power to compare to the ipad 3 graphics outside of resolution.

Dev's will probably be able to do more on the Vita without the ultra high resolution ceiling of iPad 3, not as sharp but better quality content. Full 3D iOS games aren't known for attention to detail especially because of low budgets. Most 3D games on my iPad 2 basically look like PSP or early PS2 games in HD, apart from a few. I'm sure the big guns like Gameloft, EA and Epic will now really try to make an impact with iPad 3 though.

Yes, really. For a lot of multimedia work, I would much prefer a desktop/ipad setup vs a desktop/laptop setup. The ipad offers extreme portability. We'll likely be seeing some full featured photoshop/corel paint/video editing on this ipad. All that at 1lb?!!! My laptop is 7lbs. It is a hassle to carry around. Now, I've been vocal against apple--I still am in a few ways, but the claim of creating a product that doesn't feel like a product is a very realistic statement.

Heirren

The new ipad is 1,5 pounds. Thinkpad X220 is 3,4 punds and for any kind of productivity (especially multimedia work) it blows iPad away.

Now I can see how some people might stick to iPad, but let's not create the impression that it's the only, or even the best option for everyone.

Eh, it's a solid spec upgrade to the device we've discussed to death already. There are several reasons people prefer tablets for certain applications over laptops, but prefererences are vary by people and situations. From a purely gaming point of view, "the new iPad" isn't going to change iOS gaming much from what we've seen before, save the increased resolution. And considering you can get a laptop that comfortably outperforms current gen consoles in the same price range, it certainly wouldn't be my first choice for a "bang-for your-buck" gaming device either.

Still, if touchscreen controls aren't a deal breaker for you, iOS has some great games to play. I'm sure I'll get plenty of enjoyment when mine arrives next week.

Ill say this, I was mad against a tablet at first, but when I grabbed my Ipad for 300 a couple years ago, it quickly became my first choice for surfing the web, and watching/reading internet media in my bed or on the couch after a long day of work. I spend ALL day on the PC, and this gives a nice break. Far as gaming is concerned I'll still to my rig, and mobile ganing isn't my thing. I'm sure I'll find a few cool games to casually kill time with on the thing. Skipped Ipad 2, might give this one a shot if I can get a deal.

Hermits give their graphics opinions all the time though as consoles(ps2,ds,wii) have shown that isn't' always the most important to people.

See, but apple makes software specific to each respective device. I don't own an ipad because of what you just said. This new model looks like it will fix a lot of the "pointlessness" I felt towards the older ones.

HOLY CRAP.. those specs are amazing!

First of all.. 2000x1500p res.. which is like 3 x of 720p.. or 1366x768 like the iPad 2

Secondly.. vastly improved video camera / photo camera ..

third: finally got 4G

fourth: vastly improved CPU

fifth: vastly improved GPU

yet some people think its the same as iPad 2... Wow.

Yeah I think it might finally dig the crave of the dedicated handheld. If it supports controllers, one could play mp streetfighter on one ipad ON THE GO. That seems phenominal imo.

I think you mean to say iPhone and iPod touch :? PSP also had yearly revisions so this is not something cows can complain about. Nintendo also does bi-annual revisions and there will probably be 3DS revision at the end of this year or early next year.

Anyway, do current iPad owners recommend a 16GB iPad or the 32GB one? I'm already buying the 4G one, so it's already expensive :(

Nope many will still choose handheld for portability/comfort even if tablets had controls.

Apple is different, as new applications are made, they cater to the faster processing. For example, many apps for this new ipad won't work as well on the older models.

I got my 16 GB pre-ordered. I think that should be enough memory for me, considering how much integration the Cloud has with the device. Aside from some of my music (at most I have 7 GBs worth, but I won't need all of them), Pandora, and Netflix, I'll be covered for those media needs. I can't wait for it though, I'm excited! :D I've been wanting a tablet for some time, and the iPad 3 looks like it will be amazing... I can't wait for dat Retina Display! x_x

what advantages does it provide that modern phones don't? (genuine question)

For me a few I can say what it will provide for me

1. It's NOT a phone. See phones are important, if I need to communicate with someone, I don't want to worry about my phone dying by playing games, surfing the web, etc. I need my phone to stay in touch. An iPad won't kill my phone. It also still allows communication as a secondary device if I have a Wi-Fi signal (though I likely will rarely need to do so.)

2. Portable. A laptop can be portable sure, but if I'm traveling (which I have some travel plans coming up this year), I can watch movies, play games, etc. again without killing my phone. I have a laptop, but it only gets about 4-6 hours of battery life at most. I love my laptop, but it's also a media/entertainment laptop I use for gaming, movies, etc., but the iPad for me is more conevnient.

3. It can be a laptop for users. Not sure if you know, but you can do word documents, email, facebook/twitter/youtube/*enter social media here* on your iPad. In some ways, it can be just right enough for people who need to do their basic functions as mentioned above that a laptop provides.

Personally, it's another item I would use just when my laptop isn't convenient ( like taking to work for break), and it would be a "fun" thing to have. There will be uses for it for some people and not uses for others.

In terms of 3D graphics rendering, you are right (though it's closer to a quarter, not a sixth), the Vita doesn't have as high a resolution to render to (which is an advantage and disadvantage, depending on your view point). I bet many iPad 3 games are not even going to render at such a high resolution.

what advantages does it provide that modern phones don't? (genuine question)

ChikaraShref

There will be uses for it for some people and not uses for others.

yeah, not seeing anything there my laptop can't do...

Can your laptop do all that for 10 hours? Silently? With no heat? Can you read web pages in bed, holding it like a book and post messages like I'm doing? :o

5-hour batteries in laptops is plenty for web browsing.

If you want to post messages on gamespot at home, then just use a desktop. If you're lying down in bed, posting messages on the internet is probably the last thing on your mind.

There are laptops that last 12 and more hours already.

The problem with tablets for me is that they are bigger phones. Nothing more. And sure, bigger screen is nice and all, but they're still just bigger phones and they're quite big and heavy. So when I need to travel light I will just take a phone. And when I travel with backback I would rather pack in phone and laptop, instead of phone and a bigger phone that tablet is.

But you have to charge it more often, browsing the web anywhere I please on my iPad feels way nicer than sitting at my PC and I really like browsing in bed actually. Then when I wake up I can just grab it, flick it on and read Filpboard like my morning newspaper in seconds. Its a nicer experience all round but you probably wouldn't know. Six months ago getting a tablet was the last thing on my mind until I caved one day and now its one of the best things I've ever bought, ever :)

I don't know about his laptop, but this one sure can do all that:

And you can actually handwrite the messages, which in case of "holding it like a book" is better option than fondling one hand with the touch keyboard

I have a smartphone and they're like apples and oranges to me for usage. I only take my iPad out if I'm going on a flight.

Kinda like the Asus Transformer which I nearly got instead, assuming the screen is detacheable and shazzam... becomes a tablet :P I can type with both hands and still hold this sweet b***h like a book actually, using my thumbs. Much faster than hand writing.

THe problem is, I can do on phone eveyrthing I can on a tablet. The fact that some of those are more convienient on a pad isn't reason enough to carry that damn think with me. Maybe other people find specific uses for it on the go, but for me it's just pointless device.

If I need to type something longer I just put it in tablet mode, in which case I can type much faster than anything touchscreeen would ever allow. Plus 10 inches is damn small device. When I'm in my bed I prefer larger screens.
