Are PS 4 graphics matching upto the standard or even surpassing many PC games?

Very Very Impressed with UC 4 graphics. While Star Citizen or Squadron42 are undisputed graphics king, one can wonder how technically impressive UC 4 graphics are considering weaker Hardware.Surpasses Tons of other current gen PC games easily.

PC graphics from the last century ---> yes, from this century ----> nah, I don´t think so. Unless the game developer purposefully makes the game to look "old" I seriously doubt any console will be able to surpass PC .

Consoles exclusive games have dominated overall graphical presentation to that of PC exclusives for years. Its not an issue of power but execution and PC has been lacking in that area when it comes to exclusives.

You are correct, Resogun is 60fps then Alienation had to be dropped down to 30 :/

Will be cool to see what Uncharted 4 looks like on the PS4K. I think then we can better compare the two.

PS4 exclusives are very polished and the artwork is great, but they look very unrealistic. Depth of field, unnatural color pallets, and filters all contribute to a pretty but less than stellar appearance compared to PC AAAs.

Still impressive given the hardware, but IRL console games never look as good as they do in all of these screenshots.

PC gamers lay in bed at night wishing they had Uncharted 4 level.

1 Game.... with a massive budget, with 4 previous games to build up on... and Sony 1st party support. They are talented at graphics without a doubt.

The big problem in reality is... not many of those studios exist on ANY platform... and in reality, with the same talent, Uncharted 4 on PC would look even better and 60FPS. But SP games like this have no taken a back seat.... only certain genres can look *This good* .... very restrictive.

There is no magic optimisation, there is no "Catching up" ... Uncharted is an example of an incredibly talent Graphics team... nothing more, nothing less. Model to Model, the characters here WILL look better than Star Citizens (I dont believe the game will ever release... but hey ho.) but then the difference in rendering, scale and moving parts ... Star Citizen just destroys it.

Crysis 3's overall enviorments , texture and detail is still better... STILL to this day ... but the animations and facial models etc are worse ofcourse... because there is what 5-6 years of technical advacement in these departments in Uncharted?

Sure. Naughty Dog are exceptional in terms of their technical prowess and artistic design. It's not to say that there aren't better looking games on PC, especially with the added benefit of things like scale and performance.

So..you guys are saying YES but think running an inferior looking game at a higher framerate somehow compensates the fact that Uncharted 4 is the best looking game on the market now....interesting!

Only due to the lack of true PC games. A high-budget, well optimized PC exclusive could blow away anything PS4 can put out and run better even with a similar GPU.

The PC guys always disagree but I think consoles have always stood pretty handily against PC, for the first few years of the gen at least. PC has better rez, FPS, and scale (RTS/MMO games) but for a standard action, adventure or RPG game? I think consoles do just fine.

Who said Uncharted 4 was attempting realism? It's a series about exaggerated characters, outlandish adventures, exotic locations and ancient treasure. It's art style suits that theme very well.

This thread was about PC v. Console graphics and considering graphics are judged based on subjective appeal and objective closeness to realism PS4 exclusives due well in only one of those regards. Uncharted 4 is very good looking, but not realistic looking, so no it does not meet or surpass the graphics standard of PC gaming.

I don't disagree , I'm just asking myself what would happen if ND put this budget and energy on a PC game .....

You said they look less realistic and therefore worse than PC games. That's silly, because Uncharted doesn't go for total realism. There absolutely IS a welcome colourful, cartoony, exaggarated vibe to much of it's visuals.

Nah, you just made that up. Some games attempt realism, some don't. Attempting to force EVERY game to be close to reality, and "punishing" them for "failing" this arbitrary measure is nonsense.

There's more money put into the console games, in this regard. You pay good artists and they put out good work, even with less.

You get points for artstyle, nobody is punishing anybody. No Mans Sky is subjectively good looking, but objectively it is not realistic.

How pretty they are, considering the art style. Do you give everything that isn't a super accurate brick wall texture a 0/10 for graphics? Do you think every single cartoony game in existence is garbage? Lol.

A bit of truth and honest rationalization from @Pedro which is a surprize to me. This is pretty much the gist of the situation. A lot of people don't want to accept and are in denial about these facts but with this generation it's blindingly clear.

With Star Citizens crazy funding we can see a PC exclusive change that but as an entire package it will still be difficult to out do UC4 in everything it does right from a graphical stand point.

...you are posting them as if you've played UC4 or are an objective source, but you don't fit either of those spots.

To be fair, I will say, I am not either!

Now that that is clear, I'd like to point out some things.

You can't generalize making broad sweeping statements like "PC AAAs" when that makes no sense other than blindly hyping a bunch of games on a specific platform. What PC AAA's look better than say The Order even? We are not just talking about resolution and frame-rate but overall graphical prowess. Has one released this gen? XCOM2?? Divinity original Sin??? Lets be serious here.

Also saying console games never looks as good in person as they do in screenshots DOUBLE applies to PC games where users can just max out every parameter of a game to post an amazing looking "screenshot" that is unplayable IRL.

It goes both ways but is abused more for PC due to the nature of the platform.

So what AAA PC exclusive is Uncharted 4 "less than stellar than" according to you? And do you have anything to support that other than your estimated opinion?

The problem with artsy games is that they are subjectively good looking. No Mans sky looks beautiful to some and appaling to others. So why would you use art style to determine one games graphics versus another? This thread is about that in case you missed the title. So comparing graphics based on closeness to realism is objective and intuitive. If it was as you claimed than rename this thread to "PS4 exclusives are prettier than those on PC." Than you can argue with someone else about the prettiness of bokeh DoF versus hexagonal sun sprites for all I care.

A photorealistic brick wall gets a 10/10 for realism, and whatever the viewer feels for artstyle. I've seen some damn good looking brick walls.

Why is it when people argue for Uncharted they need to add the condition "PC Exclusive" ?

@locopatho: That is nt garbage that is the only way to really compare anything in this medium. How close does the target get to realism. When you try and make it about Art style then things like Bloodborne can enter the conversation because it has amazing art direction but that does not put it at the technical level of QB or UC4

I don't know if you guys know this or not but a game doesn't have to be exclusive to look good. Shocker, I know.

UC4 looks great for it's platform but I can think of several multiplats that are visually more impressive on PC thanks to a large array of PC features.

And also PC has Total War: Warhammer in a couple weeks anyway, which is definitely more impressive than any console game graphically, thanks to the scale and level of detail it's pulling off. Then we have upcoming titles like Unreal Tournament, Dreadnought, Star Citizen.

So while the answer to your question is technically yes, the "many" you refer to does not include the actual best looking games on the platform.

There are no games that take advantage of present high-end gaming desktops. Taking a high budget PS4 exclusive designed from the ground up to take advantage of the system, and comparing it to anything on PC is ridiculous to an extremely stupid degree considering that there has not been any developer to fully optimize a game for high end desktop hardware.

Wen you have a DirectX12 game that requires a GeForce GTX 1080 to run at maximum settings, then you've got a fair comparison.

And wen that happens, you'll see how hopelessly outdated the PS4 is. Which is the reason why they're releasing the PS4.5 and putting the original to its death bed.

So, a photograph of a brick wall is what the entire medium aspires to look like? Jesus. This is some braindead bullshit. I suppose a game like Cuphead gets a 0 for graphics, because it looks nothing like reality? Damn artists, why did they go for a creative fantasy cartoon when they could have just had another realistic brick wall!

lol because if it isn't exclusive, it's just an AAA multiplatform game that is also available on consoles which doesn't signify anything specific or special related to PC other than traditional up rez and framerate, or texture bump additions.

If someone says "PC AAAs" then what else should someone infer other than it being a PC exclusive? A sad state when the only games PC users can point to and challenge the best looking console games are just uprezed console ports.

The fact that those games are that much more impressive on PC than they are for consoles this gen diminishes those arguments to an even further level of pointlessness.

sure it's great a looking game but let's hope it won't be broken at launch like Rome 2
