Who cares what people think of you. Let me guess, you must bepretty young eh. Just be grateful you have the money to get a game, because there are a bunch of people in this world that would consider it a valuable luxary to do such a thing.

No, for a number of reasons;
1) I don't give a damn what people think about me
2) I actually give negative damns about whether people approve of the things I enjoy
3) The age of the "gamers= losers' mindset is in its last throes. The generation that grew up with the NES and SNES are now the current adults. In fact, this day and age is currently the rise of the 'nerds'. How many 20-35 yo adults now have fond memories of not only playing video games, but watching shows like Transformers and GI JOE, and other geeky whathaveyous? Those tyopes of things were major parts of a great percentage of children, and now those children are adults, their slightly (or vastly) older peers who saw such things as pointless are past the [pint where they can significantly influence what is acceptable and what is not. The way of the geek is now more widely accepted than ever before.
Usually I'm not. However, once in my orchestra class, these people were making fun of the fact that a friend of mine played video games, so I asked, "What's wrong with video games? O-o" This girl next to me randomly jumps into the conversation and says "Um... a lot of things?" Then she looked at me like I had seven arms or something. e.e

I stuck to being a gamer ever since super mario.people are always suprised that I'm a gamer since I "don't look like a gamer" or "Don't looks 18"....but I got the hours, gamerscore, and bags under my eyes to prove it.
-the suprising part is that im seeing a lot more people gaming than 3-5 years ago...which is awesome
And you didn't have a comeback? Should have made an MTV joke or something that she was wearing. Tell her to go back and watch "The Hills" and shut up.Usually I'm not. I have a Super Mario Bros. shirt that i've worn to class a few times...so no.
And those who make fun probably have some random hobby that they don't want others to know about. That or their just idiots.

Of course, this is presuming you go to college. And even then, if you graduate. Anyways, once you are no longer in the spotlight, no longer the diva of you school, you will most likely become a hollow husk as the years go by, marrying and divorcing several times, with multiple children in tow throughout. Now, tell me, why am I to take these accusations from someone who will in all likelihood have such a fate to heart?""Playing a game that actually involves you is far way than the reality trash you watch everyday"

Or
"Yes, I am a nerd. And I love the nerdy things I do. Just as you enjoy the preppy reality shows and unrealisitic expectations you set up for yourself from watching too much MTV. The thing is, though, is that I will not be vastly disappointed in my antics, as they are not practically impossible to obtain. Not so for your hopes of being a celebrity and living in upper class California. No, I see a downtown apartment by the railroad tracks for you."

lol I should totally do that next time
yes, i am. i feel weird when i'm going into gamestop just knowing that all of these people are most likely virgins. sometimes i talk to girls in my class and i tell them i play video games they are like o and stair in a different direction. they usually are like what do u do for fun? everyone on this thread should just go find a decent fatty girl and go out with them. iam2greenI live with my GF and have not been single for more than a week since I was 14 (about a decade ago). Why would I need to change because you have a terrible stereotype of gamers?
At times, i usually just dont talk about it at school (even though all the jocks blab on about Call of Duty more than any gamer at our school talks about videogames).
I have 2 Katamari Shirts, 2 Psychonauts shirts, a double fine sweat shirt, and a noby noby boy shirt, but I dont care if I wear them because most people dont even know they are from, they just think they are cool shirts.
I used to feel bad that I played a lot of videogames but because I do a sport as well, i feel like it cancels out :P
I like playing games and have no issue with it. I dont really consider myself geeky though. Playing games is cool. It's better than listneing to idiots sometimes. I've never been a collector or someone who goes crazy over games. I just enjoy them for what they are. If I were one of those dudes who collected games and had all sorts of **** i'd find that a bit dorky. But to each their own. i have friends like that and some are cool and its cool what they do. Others are really insecure and messed up. it really depends on the person vs anything else. I know people who dont play games that are equally messed up so games are cool. If you like games cool. It really depends on the person. It's a hobby of mine and how i waste time and have fun and i've actually learned things from gaming as well. I get excited about games and like talking about them. I was walking down the street the other day and had a ps3 game in my hand and some dude was like dude you have a ps3? and i was like yeah dude ps3 is the rockzorzs. It was all good.
This is an odd question, I know.
Im not a hardcore gamer. I have never bought a PS2 (although I have a PS3 with like 4 games) nor have I amassed 120+ games, like some of my friends. I do not spend 5 hours a day playing COD4 or whatever, I can go for a day or two (sometimes a week, although its rare) without putting a game into my PS3. I rent instead of buy.
But whenever I go into an electronic store, Im emberrased to go browse for a PS3 title. I have no idea why. Im especially emberassed if I decide to buy anything, and I have to go up to the dreaded counter and slap that stupid case on the counter, and the cashier must think Im a geek or something.
But im not ashamed to buy a Blu-Ray, or CD, or candy bar. There must be something wrong with me. Am I alone in this?

Sounds more like a general self-confidence issue.. video gaming is mainstream now, not a basement-dwellers only club like back in the day:p
I have a Super Mario Bros. shirt that i've worn to class a few times...so no.Console_Gamer93SMB shirts are hip and ironic, so that doesn't count.

I really haven't met many girls that are THAT into games. I would say the majority of girls play the occasional guitar hero or wii sports, but that it about it. However, there are some cool ones who go a step further and play stuff like Brawl, but I don't know any who play CoD and such.[QUOTE="piercetruth34"][QUOTE="tutt3r"]

They love mario and wow. Not trying to come off as obnoxious but i have several friends who play these games. We are all successful people from very good schools and stuff. These are normal people and they love games. It's normal stuff to us. Have you ever been to panera bread and seen these people with wifi hooked up? you think these people are working? they are all playing wow.

So true on that first part. All I hear is "Call of Duty" and people think they're cool for it.Tears of joy or sadness? Since I'm a techie I really have bigger things to worry about.I cry myself to sleep knowing I'm a gamer.

You're obviously in-secure with yourself, and care too much about what other people think. You can game, and get laid these days. Relax. Girls play games too. This is an odd question, I know.

To an extent, I hate and I mean HATE when my friends bring up video games when girls are around. And I don't think I would ever bring a girl to gamestop:P
It's funny, that same thing basically happens to me a lot. I'm a gamer, but not a "geek" by a long shot. When I play games, I go for more intelligent ones like Myst, Bioshock, and Fallout. Even so, all my girlfriends still think I'm some ultra-violent, loser geek whenever I pull out Brawl at a party. It's depressing how even though the majority of the teen population has played and enjoys video games, there's still all this "all gamers are WoW obsessed freaks" prejudice from the sidelines.Usually I'm not. However, once in my orchestra class, these people were making fun of the fact that a friend of mine played video games, so I asked, "What's wrong with video games? And in answer to the question asked by the topic creator. I am a gamer, and I am totally proud of it!!
I actually used to be this way. But that was just because I was an honors student, and my dad had filled my head for years with lectures about how tv and video games would destroy my life. I felt like I was practically dealing crack in an alley the first time i entered gamestop. This is an odd question, I know.

Five years later of gaming, and I'm not kicked out of honors yet xD.
Not at all, I walk in get my game/games. Pay, walk out. If they think i'm a geek or nerd then so what? They will forget who I am anyways, i'm not the only customer to walk in there every day.
No, not at all. I'm proud of it, in fact.
Also, games are often a topic in conversation, when I'm talking with friends.
