So what's the argument? Backwards compatibility isn't a huge draw? because quite honestly it isn't, even if the data is off a bit I think we are all fairly happy to accept BC is not the be all end all of a console. if BC is included ideal nice bonus if not provided the library of a console is up to par then no issue. The only time I can remember BC being a big bonus was post 360 launch where Halo 2 was consistently topping the Live usage charts.

So Xbone fanboys rely on a tweet without any data provided whatsoever. These are the type of people you could sell ice in Antarctica. Apart from that why do one gets away from calling a mod a child?

@spitfire-six: No one has provided any data to contradict the study. In fact the data provided by Microsoft when they claim only 210 M hours per year are used on BC seems to confirm it. 210 M is actually a pretty low percentage of total play time.

Aside from this, the way this data was collected is garbage . Scraping public api's for usage data will never be as accurate as actual telemetry. Not to mention we dont know how they determined usage and they dont know how the Xbox reports usage.

It's not! You should read this :

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=239433072&postcount=730

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=239460649&postcount=837

The data here is fine. You can take issue with the conclusions others draw from it, like I do to some degree. I have nothing but respect for MS's BC efforts. But dismissing the data is self defeating.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=239467025&postcount=920

Well, i trust him.

Of course you trust one of the random posters at Sonygaf, lol. I think MS knows more than a random forum poster about their own statistics. Nice job lol.

Sure, it's a random poster. You don't know who is he. Let's say one who has bunch of friends in devs community and who works on game for Scorpio too. I'm pretty sure he has some insight on this, OTHERWISE he wouldn't mentioned that.

I am a poster there and I am in that thread. Been there since 2003. Try again! LOL

I guess this proves that there must be plenty of games to play on the xbox one other wise people would be playing more BC games.

I'm in love with this "scrapig data" defense from Microsoft. For years, they have dodged the question completely about their sales by talking about head shots in Battlefield, grenades thrown in Halo, or pizzas ordered through Live. Which, honestly wouldn't be quite as hilarrious had they not preceded the damage-control-via-scraped-statistic with the monthly assertion that XBone was selling faster than the 360.

But no, in 2017, lemmings favorite white elephant gets challenged and what is MS defense? Statistics are bullshit? I wonder how they will respond to NPD from now on? I think I'll bookmark that tweet for the next time hours drinking mountain dew is used to tell us how great the xbone is.

Damage control from a company known for consciously misleading the public about their console,

All he said was it was inaccurate (which can imply various things) and didn't respond when Kyle Orland tweeted back at him

Accept the reality, loe12k! Xbone users don't spend much time playing X360 games. BC NEVER was a big thing and it won't be as you, Xbone fans thinks it is. BC also didn't pushed Xbone sales in any way.

So options are a bad thing? Why does it have to be huge in order to be better to have it than not? And LOL its results from 1 million people and cows here are acting like its indicative of EVERY single person that owns the console. Really blowing this out of proportion. Its the results of about 1/25th of the population? Yeah, so concrete.

@quadknight: I find it sad that almost 50% of the time lems don't even play games on their console. Instead they are watching Netflix and TV. The lack of games is a serious problem on the Bone, no wonder lems have so much free time to troll forums and bash PS4 lol.

I find it sad that the fact that the X1 is probably actually turned on more than the PS4 for most owners is forgotten. Being it has HDMI pass through and can be used to operate the TV, cable power and as a DVR. I only turn my PS4 on when I switch the TV HDMI input and play a game where as my X1 is powered on just to turn on the TV and cable. Its on whenever anything is used with the TV, my PS4 isnt. In fact I dont know one person that doesnt use the HDMI pass through on their X1.

Its a part of the console that completely alters the validity of these so called results. If the console is turned on in order to power the TV, cable or satellite TV then the that is going to factor into how much time is showing up in use not playing games. The PS4 doesnt have this built in feature nor the WiiU or Switch. It is turned on only when it will be used granted Netflix and such can be used on them. But if an X1 is turned on every time the TV is used because it was designed to be that way then yeah it will show a lot of non gaming time. What are people f*cking retarded all of a sudden?

Great points and of course I concur. On that last bit, to be fair it doesn't seem to be something that suddenly happened but rather seems it's been that way far too long. Eh, selective willful ignorance is likely the case. lol

@Shewgenja: Yeah i understand the emulation stuff. Besides that id like all consoles to have bc present moving forward. PC comparison is just that the investment into buying games holds its worth since for the most part your content will always be playable. My dlc digital content on ps3 and xbox 360 is pretty much wasted except for the games that get the thumbs up from the publisher. All im saying is id like to have my past content carry over. Need to take off the PSVR blinders and see im not waving beef jerky(outlaw brand is good stuff). Im just stating that after seeing the bc on xbox one, it will be a nice feature for all system besides PC to invest in. Arsetech can jump off a cliff with their study because i find value in bc, regardles of their limited research.

@BigBadBully: I keep my consoles because I enjoy retro gaming. One day, even the XBox One will be a "retro" console (perhaps worth holding on to, we will see.)

All I'm saying is, if the console that had full hardware BC to two of the biggest game libraries of all time could be treated like a crack whore last-gen, what did people honestly expect the reaction to be to the XBone having it? Why is it the fault of Cows when they get sick to death of having thread after thread about this feature rammed down their throats in System Wars of all places? Is BC a good feature to have? Sure, why not. Do we need a thread in System Wars every time the BC list is updated so that Lemmings can do the +1 Maypole Dance of We Have A Meaningless Feature But We Want to Have Something to Argue About? Hell to the nah. To the nah nah nah. Hell to the nah.

I guess, what I am saying is, I probably speak for a lot of people in System Wars when I say that the issue isn't the Backwards Compatibility itself so much as how it's importance has been blown completely out of proportion by one fanbase here because the truth is they don't have jack shit going for them in this generation. It was obvious to everyone but the Lems. People such as myself tried to warn them that there would one day be blowback from how they acted about BC. That day has come, and it's delicious. I intend to enjoy it thoroughly. By Lemmings insistence on turning Backwards Compatibility from a nice feature to have into a war banner, they took a generally positive thing about their console and turned it into a giant glowing neon "Who gives a ****?" on a blimp circling overhead.

What is there to answer? Spencer tweeted last year 51% of X1 owners have used BC, it lead the uservoice forums in votes for from early 2014 until it was announced at E3 2015. All MS did was give what gamers that actually participate in their user forums vote for. I much rather have this option than not have it same with EA access. Even if I dont use an option I'd rather have it than have Yoshida tell me it isnt a good value for me as their costumer. Who the hell is he to say what I find of value? Yet he did in regards to an option like EA access. With BC, Sony is telling me "F*ck you, pay me".

1 million out of 25 million or more? LMAO no that isnt a big sample size. Its 1/25th of the population. Then there is the issue that the X1 is designed with HDMI pass through so that it operates as a control for TV and cable. I dont know a single X1 owner that leaves their Xbox one off, plugged into HDMI port 2 on their TV, then only turns it on when they wish to use the console like a PS4. It is on whenever the TV and cable/satellite are on for whatever reason. Obviously it will show more non gaming time. LOL

Which brings us full circle. Why do they have to in order for it to better to have the option than not?

If nobody wants to play old games, why are their PS2 classics for sale on PS4? Why is Parappa the Rapper being remastered? Why were last gen games rereleased like GoW3, TLOU?

1/25 isnt substantial unless you have your little agenda. Top 'o the morning to ya!!

Nobody is saying the data is false. But like any sample size that is that small of a fraction its largely irrelevant.

Way to just completely ignore the truth about X1 consoles being powered on more because of HDMI pass through LOL

I dont get why BC needs to be played constantly for it to be better to have than not have in a system. How does any of this make BC a negative that deserves to be put down? It was massively voted for. Even that Sony twit said its a feature highly requested. Well if you're for the gamers why not give them what they ask for highly in your system as far as features go? Ooh! Ooh! I know!! Because they want to milk money off of remasters.

Nah it isnt a chore but the fact remains how many of us have our PS4's turned on while we arent using it to play a game watch Netflix? I only turn mine on in order to play a game. I dont even use Netflix or any other app service on it because my X1S is on whenever the TV is turned on because it controls the TV, cable in my home. And I only play games basically wed afternoon in the Sea of Thieves alpha and on Fri-Sunday. So all those hours the X1S is turned on but none are for gaming because I still watch sports, movies, news. The HDMI pass through control feature destroys the validity of this data to a large degree.

Microsoft employee said the data is inaccurate. Inaccurate means it's wrong. And we know the site with the information had an agenda to (damage control for Sony)

Sony does not believe in free, native BC, that's on them. So don't be crying when you can only play PS4 games on a PS4 system.

PS5 will use PS NOW.

Barely used by 1/25th of the owners that own an Xbox One. Until you get more concrete numbers, the jury is out on the other 24 million people. Nice try.

Barely used by 1/25th of the owners that own an Xbox One. Until you get more concrete numbers, the jury is out on the other 24 million people. Nice try.

And also did you noticed this one : "inaccurate view" and not "inaccurate data" in his tweet. Looks like numbers are not far off, just the final view that people don't care about BC. He is asked to expand on that and doesn't.

As i said : Xbone users don't spend much time playing X360 games

LOL! Nobody said that BC is bad. Just BC is BARELY used. Nice try though!

He said ""inaccurate view" and not "inaccurate data". Cheers!

@mowgly1: If people dont care about BC, why did even a Sony exec state "it is a highly requested feature"? I know it lead the Xbox uservoice forums in votes until it was revealed in 2015. I go there often and participate. If people dont care about it, why do both Xbox and Sony execs admit people, that do not care according to you, request it highly?

I and others have shared why the view is inaccurate. If the X1 console is powered on more than others because it controls Cable and TV rather than switching input and turning console on only when it will be used, then that will adjust the data.

But thats not what you said. You said, "that people don't care about BC". When I dont care about someone or thing, I dont speak of it. In fact it never crosses my mind. I am a person, so when you state "people dont care" that obviously includes me. People wouldnt highly request a feature if they didnt care about it. 1 million people may not use it much but that doesnt cover the other 24 million or so.

@rrjim1: according to the percentages they're mostly watching TV :p

Well unlike a POS4 you can leave your xbox one on and just switch it to TV mode when your done playing a game. When I'm down loading a game update or install a game I also switch it to TV mode. So if you try real hard you might understand!

yeah, hitting an input switch on a remote is a real chore. I usually have to sit down when doing it.

I actually unhooked my TV from my Xbox One. I dont use any Streaming app through either PS4/X1, My TV has it built in. Then for my own media, I do use PS4 and media server application. So in essence, My X1 doesn't get used unless its for a game.

People don't care

If you don't play games = you don't care about gaming at all.

And how much votes "backward compatibility" got on xbox.uservoice? Around 110k, right? That's biiiiiiig!

EDIT : just found it. Little over 18k votes. Really, that's biiiiig.

I dont remember how many votes, it was closed after it got announced. Even if it was say 110k, if that was the top vote getter on the board it speaks to people not using the board more than anything else.

Highly requested=people care

Agreed. If one doesnt play games, one doesnt care about gaming at all. But that isnt the case. People, no matter how little according to 1 million used in this data, did play games. So by your own words that means they do care.

And yet the actual votes for games to go to a feature that you claim nobody cares about dwarf that. Also the month Red Dead Redemption went BC, it returned to the top 10 games sold at Amazon.com over 6 years after its initial release. Yet, somehow nobody cares about BC according to you.

Highly requested=people care.

Yep. My entertainment center contains a Sony Bravia 46" 4K HDR tv, an X1S and PS4 Pro and Spectrum cable box. The only device that isnt controlled by the X1S in that entertainment center is PS4 Pro.

So, can I put a 360 game physically in my XBone or is all this BC stuff in reference to digital only? IDK- too busy playing current gen this gen to have bothered trying yet. I never trade in games/consoles, therefore if I wanna go back in time on any platform it's not too big a deal to wire up an old console. And of course from time to time I do, but 99% of gaming is on current platforms. As for Sony consoles, I'd rather us a PS3 for PS3 games, a lot of 3D support last gen I miss that.
