[QUOTE="santoron"]

It kind of felt that way to me as well at first. Yet when I play AC, every aspect is as well made as AA, or better. I think AA was more of a revelation, and AC an evolution.

Sigh, I need to get the AC expansion now...

N30F3N1X

AC's more open nature made the story move at a clunky pace.

The story itself crushes AA's though. Ra's al Ghul kicks ass. And the ending is worthy of an oscar.

I don't think the story moves at a clunky pace at all. In terms of open world games this one moves along at the smoothest pace. Rockstar should really take some notes. This is how you get sh!t done!

I'm with a few other posters here, I'll never understand how someone can enjoy the games combat.

Yangire

It looke cool and felt very batmanish, no doubt.

It was just to easy.

If there were like combos and stuff, it would've been sick!

I want to play it but I don't know, Batman has never appealed to me for some reason.

Stringerboy

You do not at all need to be a fan of Batman to enjoy this game. I like Batman but I'm more of a Marvel guy myself. This game is just in-f*cking-credible. This is the closest I've seen a game come to perfection since 2005's Resident Evil 4. It's THAT GOOD!

... Wasn't the rest just reskins and challenge maps?santoron
The additional characters Nightwing and Robin each had their own movesets as well as their individual strengths and weaknesses. And also the additional maps had a couple of new twists- the Iceberg Lounge was a fight-til-you-drop endurance match and Joker's Carnival was a timed gameshow-style combat arena where you earn bonus points and additional time for banking difficulty levels. The other challenge maps were pretty straight forward and of course there was the Batman Skins pack, which is pretty standard DLC stuff.

The whole point of the combat system was that you make your own combos with strikes, counters, quickfire gadgets and combo finishers. Seriously, how do you people not get that? Look up some highscore videos on youtube and maybe you'll understand.

It's a great game no doubt. But I disagree with the part TC said "All open world games should strive to be." Now I loved AC alot but the open world wasn't that great in terms of goofing around... yeah there were riddler trophies and stuff like random fights but after the game is finished there isn't very much to do.

Just Cause 2 is the kind of game that shows what a traditional open world game should be. Develop a system that allows for endless mayhem and fun to be had by the player. JC2 does a simple thing alot of games forget to do; provide hours of entertainment.

While AC was undeinably a great game I think people praise its overworld a bit too much.

Both AA and AC are good but I would take Demon's and Dark souls anyday over both.

The dlc for the game isnt very good or worth the money. The Catwoman dlc is great, but thats free with the default ps3 version.

Sh*t yeah it is. One of the greatest games of the whole gen + all of it's DLC + a free movie = BADASS VALUE! Even better, if you buy your copy at Walmart you get a bonus code to download Gotham City Imposters for free. Can't beat that.

There are very few games that are this polished to perfection. Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4 are the only others that come to mind. Game is an instant classic.

polish can only get you so far, portal 2 is just as polished while also being the better overall game. same goes with littlebigplanet 2...

Mother of god this game is f*cking incredible. I bought the GOTY Edition and this is easily one of the best gaming value packs out there.

I spent all that time last year praising games like Crysis 2, BF3, Dark Souls, Skyrim, etc (all great games) while this one wasn't even a blip on my radar. Somebody hit me over the head. Batman AC is what allopen world games should strive to be like.

Arkham City was very good, but the best game of 2011 for me by far was Portal 2. If you haven't played it I recommend that you buy it and play it. Now.

This has probably been the only occasion where I've agreed with Master Shake.

Indeed, Arkham City was one fantastic game (any my personal GOTY of 2011). It was a love letter from Rock Steady to the Batman universe, and never before has a love letter been written so passionately and eloquently.

It was so good, and such a great improvement over Arkham Asylum to the extent where it renders its predecessor to an irrelevant state.

The story was pretty terrible, occasional button presses didn't register, combat wasn't as deep as people made it out to be (yet deep enough), NPCs often looked strange, and all the enemies of a type often either looked the same or had like three subclasses. Bosses were also way too easy and almost never a challenge. Batman also has some inability for catching anyone for the first few hours of the game. Altogether, they don't mean much, aside from the story, which was really, really bad. I'd give it a 9.0, after starting with an 8.5.

The first two Uncharted games had a much better story than Arkham City. the only thing going for AC was Joker being intriguing (at times) and all the other snippets of story that is given to you via exploring.

Not at all. AC had a poor story that left parts of the game feeling too underdeveloped in that area, which I really don't mind since the gameplay was top-notch. Uncharted 2 had a decent story that was cliche except for the ending, but really did no harm or anything great to the genre. Uncharted 1 had amazing characters, great development of setting, antagonists, and many other things along with my favorite plot twist of all time, but that's my opinion on the game which I can see that barely anyone agrees with. So we'll keep this about Arkham City. Why do you say what I said was a load of crap?

Both games are near-perfect.

The setting and characters are portrayedincredibly well, and the combat is stylish, fun, smooth, and on higher difficulties, challenging. But the best part is that not only does it look fantastic, but the player is in complete control the entire time.

The design of the world is top-notch, with tiny little details all over the place adding huge amounts of immersion. There's a ridiculous amount of stuff to do, and the story and atmosphere are brilliant.
