Zelda sure doesn't seem to command alot of respect around here. But maybe it never did?

Can't wait until the end of this year when Skyward Swords owns the lot of ya :D

(i have faith!)

charizard1605

Zelda just won greatest game franchise on SW, so I'm sure people here like it.

It's really funny, for a franchise that just won the Greatest Franchise Ever contest, so many people seem to hate on it :P

lol my thoughts exactly! I don't get the hate honestly. I will admit I was dissapointed with Twilight Princess, but thats partly because I hyped it to be the best game yet (better than OoT), and it wasn't. It is a 9.0 to me, as to where WW and MM are a 9.5 and OoT is a 10.

lol well please help me understand! :P

The way I see it, is that you are mad that Zelda has not undergone some radical change, but neither has many series, including TES with Skyrim.

locopatho

I want the core Zelda design to stay the same, but to get bigger better and more bad ass! (to quote Cliffy B :P)

I want Hyrule to be massive, tons of NPCs and sidequests and exploration (like Oblivion) not small and sterile and N64ish like TP.

I want cities and villages to be big. Assassin's Creed has spoiled me here, but at least bigger then a couple of enterable buildings on a couple of screens...

I want tons of enemies wandering about, like Dead Rising or what have you. How about SEEING Ganon's giant armies instead of just hearing about them!?

I want more items, weapons, magic, horses and whatnot. More hidden treasure and secrets and just funny wacky stuff: Oblivion, you can find a dead goblin under a bridge with loads of wine bottles and a suicide note! Or make poison out of plants, coat arrows in it and hunt deer, then sell the meat. Or find a spell taht allows you to walk on water and run about on lakes. Just random fun variety and interactivity.

Not really for Wii, but ideally HD graphics, orchestra surround sound, top quality voice acting would be good.

Dungeons are fine, core design is fine, story is fine, just scale everything the **** up and stop reminding me of Ocarina in the worst possible way!

Thats my Zelda rant, I hope you enjoyed it, though you probably disagree as does everyone else ever :P

So basically it's impossible for Skyward sword to impress you because it can't fill that checklist of "how to turn zelda into the elder scrolls mixed with read dead redemption mixed with assassin's creed"?

And we haven't even seen what the over world (or general setting) for that matter is going to be. Why are you saying it's going to be serile and n64 ish?

Want to go with Skyrim, since I have a feeling it'll be the best game since games were created, but being a Zelda fan, I cannot do so, Plus, this is Zelda we're talking about. So my vote rests with the swordy sky.

I gave all of them 10's except wind waker. (because I haven't played it  )

twilight princess has the grandest scale and and the most epic feel to it, as well as having the best level design.

Majora's mask had the best atmosphere by far, and also had the most and best sidequests.

OOT had the best soundtrack and was the biggest milestone for the series.

EDIT: even if I haven't played wind waker though, It easily has the best visuals.

After TP I'm not exactly looking forward to another 3D LOZ. I'll buy it, almost certain of that, but I think unless they REALLY come up with some new ideas it's not going to be anywhere near the series glory days. I do feel it's going to be basically the same gameplay we've had for the last 12 years though which frankly leaves me kind of uninterested. Skyrim on the other hand, like all Elder Scroll games, is being built from the ground up and is completely different than the other games in the series (each of them has been completely different). If they can polish up Oblivions formula and have an epic story then it's very possible it could be GOTY. That being said there's a very real chance it could flop whereas Skyward sword will almost certainly be 8.5 at the very least. I'll probably put 200+ hours into it like I did in Morrowind and Oblivion though.

I will direct you to my first post, "I won't miss Zelda for anything, I have no doubt it will still be a very fun, very polished game" Its just no longer at the very peak of gaming for me, as it has been surpassed in many areas and the stuff I was dreaming of back on N64 Ocarina days has been accomplished in other games, not Zelda.

I'm a bit saddened by TP's rep. if people didn't hype it to be the second coming of christ, they wouldn't have been dissapointed, and instead, found an amazing game.

I really do need to play it. It's just that I don't have my gamecube anymore, and I don't have a wii :(

It would be awesome if nintendo would re-release it for their next system in HD. even if they don't though, I'll still get around to playing it one day.

Wind Waker is a special game lol. It is not perfect, but something about it is so awesome. Windfall Island is such a cheery place :P lol. I try to be very picking about the games I give 10's to, and I also try to remain unbiased. If a game loses me at any moment and I don't feel like playing any further its not a 10. If it has some noticeable issue, its not a 10. And so on lol. I feel Majoras Mask is very close to a 10 and my reasons for not giving it a 10 are hard for me to pinpoint, which makes it even harder for me not to give it a 10, but I think I still give it a 9.5 :P. WW on the other hand did so much right, but I feel the Ocean could and should have had more interesting islands to explore and such. Twilight Princess has the most issues for me, yet it does some aspects very well. I am going to play it again soon, and I think I will enjoy it even more this time :P.

TP is amazing, but it has tacked on motion controls (ok they weren't bad but not great either), and graphics which should have been better on the Wii, playing as a Wolf wasn't fun.

WW is undoubtedly one of the best zeldas; huge overworld lots of charm and sidequests. It was the last Zelda game to have that mysterious quality (probably because of how young I was when I played it then TP came out alot later). But in general Zelda games have great overworlds with MM having the best.

The graphics are timeless, not really needed in HD your eyes will be fine looking at it :P. My little cousins came around not long ago, I let them play WindWaker and even on my 37" screen stretched out to widescreen the game looked amazing.

believe me, I'm not looking at them from a biased standpoint. if I was biased on things, I'd have given NIER a *really* high score despite its obvious flaws.

which btw have you gotten NIER yet? :P

It doesn't need to be AS big, but I just can't get excited to "explore" such a tiny world any more, not after Bethesda games and other open world games.

Just thinking, what can I do in Hyrule field? Gallop about, kill an enemy or two, hack grass for rupees, same thing for god knows how many games. In other games we have picking plants to make poison, (Oblivion), getting waylaid by highwaymen(Red Dead), meeting a wandering trader (Fallout 3), just more ALIVE! People eating their food and tending their crops, animals wandering about, NPC battles, and all that.

For me, the old school "5 NPCs standing around 3 shacks where nothing ever happens or changes" is just too outdated!

Yeah. Is it as amazing as OoT or the second coming of Christ? No, it isn't. It is still a very fun game with an enjoyable story, fun overworld (even though there was a severe lack of sidequests compared to WW and MM) and a long campaign. (It took me like 25 hours... on my second playthrough. Like 50 on my first.) Great game but not the best of the best.

Majora's mask had the best atmosphere by far, and also had the most and best sidequests.

OOT had the best soundtrack and was the biggest milestone for the series.

EDIT: even if I haven't played wind waker though, It easily has the best visuals.

theuncharted34

I am going to play it again soon, and I think I will enjoy it even more this time :P.

believe me, I'm not looking at them from a biased standpoint. if I was biased on things, I'd have given NIER a *really* high score despite its obvious flaws.

which btw have you gotten NIER yet? :P

I am not saying that you are biased, just saying I am not :P. No I have not lol, I keep looking on Amazon for a good deal and hoping I can get it for 10 or just above haha. I don't think Best Buy will carry it, but if they do, I might pick it up with my gift card there. It better impress me...or else! :P

I'm a bit saddened by TP's rep. if people didn't hype it to be the second coming of christ, they wouldn't have been dissapointed, and instead, found an amazing game.

SaltyMeatballs

TP is amazing, but it has tacked on motion controls (ok they weren't bad but not great either), and graphics which should have been better on the Wii, playing as a Wolf wasn't fun.

technically, yeah the motion controls were tacked on :P but they also really did work out great. the IR pointing allowed for much better use of aiming with things like the bow, and swinging the wii-mote wasn't tediously tiring. it was waggle, but it worked great.

playing as the wolf certainly wasn't as fun as being link, but it served as breaks in the action/rest of the game. plus, it was really neat exploring the twilight area's with the wolf, which wouldn't have felt right if you did that with link.

EDIT: and not a big thing, but being able to run and swing the sword was cool, and made cutting grass a lot less tedious :P

That's what happened to me. Upon first playing it, I was dissappointed because of hype. However after replaying it I think it is a great game.

turtlethetaffer

always nice to see someone who appreciates TP :)

Exactly, you just summed it up, which to me is a 9.0. I will think about reevaluating the score when I play through it again, although I am sure it will sit there quite comfortably :P.

I think SS will take people, including me, by surprise, but who knows? I hope it does, and have faith that it will. Skyrim also looks awesome, but Oblivion wasn't that great IMO, so I am a bit cautious.

It's not awful, but it was my favorite place in Ocarina of Time and then I see this abomination in TP and it made me quite sad lol. It should have been more like A Link To The Past's, but in 3D.

aaaaah your one of those people :P. At times I say, this would be cool, and it could be. BUT the thing I love about zelda is its style and very unique charm it possesses, which massive games lack. Each part of the world feels very unique, and each character has style to them. I feel like making the game massive would diminish this charm, although I could see it being scaled up a bit and still great, but I do not think it needs to be like TES in any way.

locopatho

Is Zelda an open world rpg though? Again, I think your comparing apples to oranges.

Besides, we know nothing of the overworld in Skyward sword.

Hell for all we know the entire game could be an inter connected dungeon like metroid prime.

Well kinda... Not really an RPG but I do associate it with exploring, finding caves and dungeions, sidequests and minigames, getting items weapons and magic... Has a lot in common with Elder Scrolls really, which is pretty similiar apart from the stats, skills and leveling (which I don't need in Zelda don't worry :P)

Why would you not give them a chance? That is just a strange attitude to have. I gave Halo a chance, turns out its pretty fun and is one of few games I miss my 360 for. I gave the MGS series a chance (just played them over a year ago for the first itme) and its one of my favorite series out there. I suggest you do the same for what is my favorite seires of all time.

I have nothing against Zelda, just dont find the series appealing, hell I feel the same way about Pokemon.

I have no idea... I think Bethesda is a terrible dev, they've produced nothing but garbage since Oblivion, so I figure Skyrim will be the same. Honestly think Morrowind was a fluke. But, I've not played a Zelda game since OoC, are they still ~around that level of fun? Not even seen any gameplay.

Every new Zelda game has the possibility to be the greatest game ever made. Though at this point its impossible to say, From what I've see of the two I would say Skyrim, but I haven't seen much of Skyward Sword.

The best Elder Scrolls game can't even touch the best of Zelda games. Skyward Sword will undoubtedly be superior.
