[QUOTE="Wasdie"][QUOTE="brandontwb"]Why does it have to be highly competitive gameplay? Why do you think it's not balanced? It's balance is fine. All players start out with the potential to do what the next player can do. What's wrong with being constantly being rewarded? It's about earning and rewarding in a way such that you have a good time... like any video game is supposed to do. There's nothing wrong with killstreaks or nukes because the players have to earn them, and it's hugely satisfying when you get them yourself. If you want to speak imbalance, check out L4D2, the most unfair game I've ever experienced.. yet still it has a competitive scene. But yet again it is protected by the general popular hardcore gamer ideology.Alpha-Male22
First off having an unlock system already ruins balance, some people get more stuff because they've played more. That's just not fair. The "potential" is not the same.
Games like Quake, UT2k4, and CS are truly balanced FPSs Nobody comes into the game with anything extra, nobody is given the ability to get free kills just because they have prooven to do good for a time. I'm not saying CoD isn't fun, I'm just saying it isn't balanced at all. It creates more frustrations than anything.
How is L4D2 unfair? It has been constantly balanced since it's launch. The hardcore gamer ideology is that if you suck at the game, you lose. That's not "unfair", that's how the game should be played.
BF3 is said to have an unlocking system that will take months to get through, thus advantaging players based on length played. COD at least has playlists that get rid of the excessiveness of reward spamming. I have hope that MW3 has learned this lesson of spam and unbalance that MW2 surely had. But overall, BF3 is just a fresher, bigger, and deeper experience and I say this confidently without seeing MW3 as it will just refine what should have already been refined. I officially announce today that I WILL be a hermit come Oct. 27th! Where are the cookies?I feel like its only unbalanced because a developer misses the point of it.
In Rainbow Six: Vegas, a new player had just as much a chance to win a fight as much as a veteran player with their gear. The unlocks were purely cometic, with guns like the SPAS-12 having no better stats then a base shotgun and stuff like different armor brands and camo.
In games like CoD and BC2 they made it unbalanced by giving better gear and more options as you went up while highly restricting early players. Sure it kept the carrot dangling, but it was highly unfair. A system like in R6V2 is the best in my eyes. For those who remember, Vegas 2 had a seperate unlock system (like the class unlocks in BC2) and a main unlock system, and it took forever to get everything, but it was never unfair. If BF3 can give starting players a generous amount of gear and not give them crap like no med kits or something like BC2 did, then I'm grateful, but whatever they do I'll be happy with it since I plan on getting it day one and spending a generous amount of time on the game.
