I never got far enough in San Andreas to like it, cause it seemed to bore me after a few times of playing it. Vice City kept me going. That was a great game.

Though oddly enough, I prefer Saints Row. I despise auto-aim. Which is why I prefered the PC renditions of GTA. Unfortunately, that wasn't the most fluid either. Saints Row has the best control IMO.

MythManiac

Yes, I hated the fact I could not aim my pistol or MP5 submachine gun in the GTA games. Why only the assault rifles?

I really loved the feel of Vice city.  SA improved on many gameplay elements but the story wasn't as good.

The 2D one and the 2D/3D top down one.

Wish they would remake them for GBA or something.

GTA San Andreas easily the best, best storyline, best music, best voices, awesome city

the worst is Vice City, found the camera awkward to use and, crashing on bikes was annoying , and didnt like the city much, though the music was cool

I've only played the first three. Although I don't think any of them are great, the third instalment was significantly better than it's predecessors. I guess like Zelda it got better with 3D.

GTA could easily be a SIMS-series killer if done right. But then again, nobody wants that.

Any new GTA game is fun. There are no best rather than people hating on rap-culture. If the game was based on an Asian character, with Asian songs, it'll be the same thing. "make the character white again!!@!#" - Hugely spammed in ebgames.com's game review and other big online stores. SA > Vice City, and GTA IV will be better than the rest.

were some of you guys around here and other forums when they first revealed the main character of SA was Black....

*some* (understatement) people went berserk......oh it was crazy......LOL.....

so I believe that some gamers went into playing that game with their minds made up and were going to hate it in the end either-way, especially when compared to other GTA games.....

and then there might have been some who were sceptical at first but end up liking it for the game that it was.....a great all around game......

and others who legitimately did not like the story compared to previous GTA titles....

What are you talking about? Tommy is fromVice City. Hetalks. You're thinking about Claude (and yes, he does have a name, it's just not mentioned in game).

SA is deffinately the best. It added tons to the gameplay(i spent hours upon hours going up on jets and parachuting), possibly the best storyline(not another going from the bottom to the top *yawn*), best music and deffinately best city. Only rant is taking out the robbing of stores.

VC was the worst imo. No major improvement over its previous title, unoriginal story, i guess the music was only cause it matched the atmosphere of the 80's.

Im pretty sure most of you people "disliked" SA because the main character was black and there was a heavy hip hop boyz in the hood theme.

Im pretty sure if they threw a white guy in there with some classic rock, you would've thought it was a classic.

I loved the 3 cities, and all that you could do in them. Also they had samual Jackson voice acting. I dont see how people cannot like this game.

Be more open minded.

I voted for Vice City. had the best music and best storyline. also, it was the 1st GTA to really feel right. the character could speak, you could buy places and make proper money andthe music was mosty real stuff from the 80s. great game =]

Vice City is my fave but San Andreas is good too.

People don't like SA cause of the whole ghetto thing, you expect some pasty skin nerd to like a rap themed game?

That's one of the main reasons why I didn't like SA. I hate the whole ghetto-rat fad and I think mafia families are MUCH more dangerous and cool than a bunch of street thugs.

If it came down to some major hood vs the mafia, i think that the hood would probably win. And that was the whole fad back in 04. In 2001, im sure that the whole mafia thing was too. If you ask me, i think that Vice City took a bit too much from scarface (i still love the game, it is a classic game still) like especially the whole chainsaw scene in the mansion scene...

I think that if GTA was emulating what is the "fad" now, then you would see some emo guy who 24/7 listens to My Chemical Romance(i dont really like them, they have one or two good songs though) and has to deal with himself.

Here's the thing, Mafioso actually HIT things when they shoot. The mafia is also an organized crime syndicate, something street thugs are not.

Hey TC, you ask for people's opinion on which GTA game they like the best and all you keep on doing is replying how you can't understand why people don't like San Andreas. If you wanted to create a thread about how good San Andreas was, then thats what you should have done.

Personally I found VC the best followed by GTA III then San Andreas. The lay out, story, music, and missions were the best in VC.

[QUOTE="Big_T-Mac"]saints row.shaggymcp

I liked saints Row but again... I hated the Gang theme....uneducated people cussing every 2 seconds annoyed me, but..... Saints row was saved by its Graphics, Physics, aiming system, and its online multiplayer ( when it finally got fixed  )

I thx god that Rockstar got rid of that gang crap with the next GTA.

So every character you ran into in all other GTA games was highly educated and didn't swear right? I don't remember it saying Tommy Vercetti had his masters. What about the lawyer guy from VC? Educated right? Also swore frequently and did a lot of coke. Are you sure thats your problem with SA and Saints Row??

I have to say GTA:SA. GTA3 was *amazing* I love the game, but the missions are pretty outdated now. The city design, imo, is near perfect and the radio will always be one of the best. Vice City improved missions, plus the music and chatshows were the best so far, the style was also fantastic...however, San Andreas wins because the missions were much better than 3 or VC, they had more variety and were generally more fun. Plus the game had an amazing amount of detail...it was pretty incredible what you could do. I'm hoping GTA4 will be best of all though ;)

Vice City

Then GTA2

#3 didn'th ave much to it and SA while decent enough just had a lack of intersting things to do in it. Vice was the perfect balance and 2 was just plain fun.

3: Was very good, good story, good-to-great missions, and very original

Vice City: WAY too short for a console game, story was OK until the end, which seemed like they were rushing to finish the game to get it out on time for the release date, still had some good-to-great missions, but not as many missions really hurt it

San Andreas: Great variety of gameplay, all really good, lots of great missions, lots of side-missions and other great stuff to do, great new gameplay mechanics added like swimming and building your character (although eating all the time got annoying), good story

LibertyCity Stories: Playing this one right now, but haven't finished it yet (just got to Staunton Islan). I've got to say though, that I'm really impressed. It's not as good as the previous games, but I was honestly expecting a lot worse. The story so far does seem pretty good, the missions are pretty good so far (after picking up difficulty) although there are some which do seem a bit too similar to GTA3. Pretty fun so far.

I haven't played the older ones or Vice City Stories, but from the ones that I have played, I say SA was the best.

I'm surprised so many here agree with me on Vice City (I thought I'd be in the small minority)

Vice City was smaller and didnt have as many features as San Andreas, but it felt right. San Andreas had too much and I felt like it was a chore to cross the country over and over again. And those flying missions were annoying and hard.

And then there was Supply Lines.....

GTA3

Its the only one with a scummy atmosphere that was actually believable (no red/orange sky) with a whole lot of sleezy looking characters in the shadier parts of town. It was presented like a movie with the opening scenes as well. It was the first 3D sandbox game that many other developers ripped off.
